Its a pity that, with our modern graphics, physics engines, and production values, we can't seem to manage characters and humour of Anachronox's quality anymore - its a damn pity that John Romero had to mess up Ion Storm so that we never got an Anachronox 2.
About the only a few companies do good characters and games anymore, and all of those are serious games with only a few hints of humour.
@rtsintu I think my last time was at Mordin in Mass Effect 2 - but it wasn't a game, it was a character, heh - before that, it was probably Pyschonauts, which was a funny game with strong characters - but thats only one game in the last few years.
Imaginative, funny, well written, and a damn good game at the same time. It's still one of my all-time favorite.
Too bad Ion Storm Austin was closed down and Eidos refused to make a sequel of this game. It's like reading a great book with its last chapter missing.
@bloodrunsclear never played this game, but already story is great. Just b/c this is generation of high-end graphics doesn't mean plots have to suck. I think the last new generation but good story games I played were SW Battlefront II (ok narrating story is not my thing) and Zelda Twilight Princess which is decent story wise. No Zelda game I know of has an incredible story btw. Good gameplay yeah, incredible story no.
@Jaser200 I might finally be able to continue recording these soon. The reason why I stopped it was because i put a new graphics card in my computer and ever since the game just crashed on startup. Somewhere in june i was finally able to get it running again by hacking the games executable. Apparently my new gfx card had more functions than the game could ever have foreseen, and when it asked for all the functions the memory overloaded :P Now i just need to reclaim my Gamecam license.
@Jaser200 so then you may be able to see the whole story ;)
I have always considered it one of the best games I ever played. Mainly because of the story and the funny dialogue (even the totally useless NPC's usually had something funny to say), but also because of the awesome music score(!), the broad gameplay, the well hidden secrets, the simple combination system that made for lots of different custom attacks, the way new things were added gradually so you had to go back god i love this game!
@Jaser200 also, I totally agree with you. It seems that nowadays it's all about the graphics and the multiplayer... I also like my games with a good story (and for me that doesn't have to be something overly complicated like the Halo stories, just something imaginative), but it seems as if those games are extinct. :(
However, when seeing other gamers' opinions on this i get the impression most of them don't mind the story, just wanna get playing ASAP and hate cinematics (I love watching cines).

anachronox is one of the best. damn it.

anachronox looks really good (well, a lot better) with the bloom patch from doom3.
i guess games share one engine.
i heard there was a whole machinima movie on some machinima con based on these short cuts.
that would be so great...

yeah, it's very, very sad... I went over the game four times in different translations, fought all of its tweaks, but it was all well worth it
I hope to see more plot-oriented games comming up, but haven't seen any signes yet; maybe it was it...

I love this introduction! Even with high end graphics, nothing this imaginative has come out in a good while.
