Hi Guys! I'm having problems with my pro logic. When i try to record it's always pausing/jamming for about 2sec or so before it continues... is there a something that i'm doing wrong? maybe a wiring/assigning error. please help! :(
hey is it good to rap on A Harlan Hogan MXL-VO:1a Studio Condenser Microphone?? im gona buy it off my friend but i wana know if its good to spit vocals on??
Hello man, just bought me a Digi 003 console(just like yours),i also have a mxl 990 and a shure sm57 which both aren't a big deal. Also have a MBP,like you.Do you think that i can produce good stuff with this gear without having to spend more money on high cost pre amps and other peripherals?I play rock, blues, etc,
Im thinking about getting the macbook pro 13 inch and was wondering if it is good for recording music? im gonna be doing alot of that and want some information on how good it is on a laptop. Thanks!
@drummerboy9551 All I can say is, it's an awesome buy and clearly does what it says on the box it comes in. Brilliant and efficient. it can handle whatever you throw at it.
@rocksolid76 I have a 15" 2011 macbook pro 8gb ram and 2.2 core i7.. .. It is by far the best laptop you can own if your looking to have a stable operating system that is snappy, sleek, and rugged.. And it turns heads everywhere I go
@drummerboy9551 It really depends; if you're going to do a lot of CPU heavy physical modelling plugins like pianoteq, the I'd suggest getting a quad core which is 15"+ ... I have an aging 15" from 2009 it's not too big but I'm going for the 13" Air for portabillity and it's better for the hands since the edges of the Pro's are sharp :( Otherwise I'd get at least 4GB RAM and SSD if you don't like the loading of Logic :)
@nutelina okay, im gonna probably be using garageband if i get the 13" and i am gonna be making my music as raw as possible(using as many reall instruments as i can) i will be doing a lot of just recording separate tracks of instruments through a mic and dont know if the amount of space on the 13 inch is enough or not.
@drummerboy9551 Hi which space do you mean, HDD or screen? As for screen I can really say 1440x900 has been really enough but I do use a lot of shortcuts, like x for mixer, p for pianoroll, but I don't use screensets... What I really find annoying is the instrument window for each synth say the ES2, is there a shortcut for that?
sounds great rock solid! what levels do you typically want to record at? Your levels sound strong and clear! Do you put a limiter on your sounds and bus out as groups? Thanks for posting! Hope you don't mind the questions!
hi this is probably gunna sound quite stupid because i am quite new to the making of music and i was wondering what you advise me to use.... for example like a key board and a nano pad or just a nano pad etc. and if you have any advice on brands to that woud be great.
@J2da3rdlettaTV You can with careful management use the digi 003 rig as an audio interface. In Logic, in order to use it properly, make sure you enable software monitoring in your "AUDIO" dialogue. Unfortunately there is no way to configure it to have assignable fader or button actions as I have tried this over a number of years and with no luck.

Hey man, love your setup! Quick question, do you have your digi 003 working on Logic as a controller? I have the 003 and logic, and can't get the faders or transport controls mapped on logic correctly?
@rocksolid76 how do you use both display screens in unison like that ? i would like to do the same . use my macbook pro as a display screen for the mixing faders and knobs . and use my 40inch vizio screen to show to actual session with all the tracks . PLEASE HELP !!!!
@SMG59 Some are connected via audio jack cables and the midi controoled keyboards are connected via a midi usb cable directly to the computer. One is a controller and the other doubles as both an audioo interface and midi compatible keyboard also.
nice beat and setup. I have protools 9 i just didn't open it up yet. I still learning reason but i can't wait until i start getting busy with it. Peace stay up.
is it possible to use vst plugins on Logic Pro 9? For example: Sonar's Rapture, Session Drummer 3, or Dimension Pro? I'm newbie to home studio digital recording. I have both Sonar 8.0 and Logic Pro 9. Sonar is lagging much on my PC and Logic is running fine, I'm just more experienced with Sonar, but I want to start using Logic now. PLS Help.
Are you running all of this through your Macbook Pro? If so, how well does it run? Any lag or anything? I'm planning on getting a 13" pro just for the portability, and was wondering if I should maybe get a 15" vs. the more portable 13". Thanks.
@epic507 Indeed I am running ALL without limitations at all what so ever. The lag you refer to is latency and I do not suffer from any also. For me because I still have a mac desktop, I will suggest also the 13" for portability and flexibility.
I have the Waves Mercury running for plugs including, sonnox, brainworks, and other demanding applications inclusive of things like Ocean Way Drums Platinum, Superior Drummer (All Packs), BFD II, and other demanding instument plugs. It handles well.
@epic507 Hey there..i'd go crazy if i had a sick setup like rocksolid76...but I am running cubase5 incl. komplete 7 with all of their plug ins on a simple vaio VGN-NS38M without any problems. the only extra device is a roland extern soundcard and a midikeyboard...I know.. thats unusual but it works! check out my vids for some feedback please!!
The AKG K66 Headphones. Incredible mid range and LFE response curve. Highlights High end frequencies also but with an uncanny correlation and dynamic curve eq also. i swear by it as I have become accustomed to it's way of interpretation of sonics.. Hope this helps.
@wpaul1975 AVID have not in any way decided or suggested that it will be possible currently to integrate fader operation between the digi 003 and Logic pro's intuitive interface either via midi or otherwise. In the meantime they have introduced newer model with improved protocols to work natively with other current DAWS namely logic via natively integrated protocols.
@ooProduction As you can see from the above video that I carried this demonstration from, I used the digi 003 interface that I own and that in essence is my audio and midi interface simultaneously. I will possibly put up a video in the near future showing how this is achieved.
@STVproduction1 I haven't gotten rid of it sir. This is my temporal home studio while I am in the UK. My main studio which houses the larger console and other equipment is in my home in Florida at the present time. I still very much have it and as a matter of fact, miss it quite a lot. Thanks.
Oh ok, i understand now, coz i was abt to wonder if i really should get me one of those or not...
Thanks for ur quick reply Past Isaiah, i been watching ur video for a longtime now, i apreciate the time dat u take to make all these video, i've learned a lot from u
nice sound quality but the overall beat is lame....thats my opinion maybe it's because im from the south and not really into the slower west coast style of beat you've made
@plople1 Thanks sir. I used the BFD II drum plugin and I mixed and did the processing in post with the likes of sony oxford plugins on individual hits like the bass drum, the snare drum, hihats, cymbals, room mics, closeup mics and bleeds and others. I usually enjoy mixing to broadcast sound quality.
This is truly inspiring stuff! It demonstrates answers to a lot of questions I haven't been able to articulate yet since I'm just starting out. Thank you for posting it! Best of luck to you!
@rocksolid76 I've enjoyed your videos. Very informative. I have a few questions. I'm looking for a mic preamp can you recommend an quality and affordable one. And I would love a video tutorial on how I can get logic pro 8 to work on the Digi 003 interface. Thanks value your input.
@getjjg Hi, sorry it's taken me quite a while to respond to you. I have been extremely caught up and busy. For preamps I will suggest the following: Presonus, Focusrite or Liquid mix. For the more high-end you are looking at Neve, Avalon, Manley or possibly the likes of SSL and maybe API lunchbox modules.
I will be making the video of Logic Pro & Digi 003 soon.
very nice setup, I have a home studio video with my imac 27 i7 axiom pro 61 apogee duet rode k2 and various other instruments. I love logic 9. What kind of mics do you have?
@EisenhowerStudios My microphones include: Rode NT1 and NT2A, Rode M3 and Rode NT1 for my video camera. I also have the following: SE2000A, SE2000T, SE3300Z, SE5600 Tube and also the SE Ribbon mic. Sure SM58, SM57 and also the Anniversary SM58. Last but not the least, A Bluebird Blue Capsule 2 mic. For my drums, I have the limited edition Audix DP && series mics in it's case.
@rocksolid76 Hang on, let me get this straight. You used digidesign hardware with Logic? I thought that wasn't possible? I wanted to get the 003 but thought it wasn't fully compatible with Logic 9!
I prefer Reason 4 for software instruments and Logic for audio. Reason seems to have more options on that front
@rawrgrr4298 After a series of trial and error I was able to work out the parity difference between the interface protocol and calculate the amount of latency by making Logic the Host and the 003 the slave. That way I have been able to make the 003 emulate an independent interface and it works absolutely fine as long as software monitoring in Logic 9 is enabled.
@rocksolid76 I THINK i understand what you've done here. Ever since i heard about Digidesign and Logic Pro compatibility being pretty much 0% i've never really tried or considered buying any Digidesign hardware.
@rawrgrr4298 It's worked very well for me so far and as a matter of fact, when I am in my smaller studio working, I can afford to do my mixing and mastering in Logic using the 003 interface and also switching directly into protools 8 to do any work be it mixing or mastering also.
@rocksolid76 Oh my lord, that sounds like the perfect set up! I have to admit i've never used Pro Tools i think it's my opinion on locking hardware with certain software that annoyed me. I'm going uni soon so i guess i'll be working primarily on Pro Tools, gotta. get. some. experience.
@rocksolid76 - I am still trying and erroring on that front...I have a digi003 and am forced to record in PT, my producers prefer logic so it's a bunch of back and forth...cant get logic to work correctly with D003, when I set a track on record the first fader just go bezerk...tried messing with it and fixed that but get weirder occurances...a vid on how to set that up would be grrreeaatt
Thanks bro for the great video just want to know how many vertual insterments plus audio tracks with some plug'ins can the macbook pro hundle?and waht is best for this kind of recording Macbookpro or iMac 27" Quad i7 2.8 16gb ram?
love the trak!! i gotta a question anybody knows how to take off that background noise i have same noise and when recording audio it goes right in so i have to edit evrey track more than just cut and paste etc. ???
@balhedz The background noise has to do with the acoustic properties of your environment, poor sound design of your listening area and possibly a microphone that is susceptible to high noise gain levels.
@rocksolid76 what no not really wtf are you talking about the backround noise is metronome its just to keep you on beat so you keep the melody but if u do good without it go ahead
@dri0914 I personally used the digi 003 as an audio interface and it worked extremely well for me. I do have pro tools 8 also and use it a lot for audio related work but because I could use it as a bridge in Logic 9, I decided to employ it's use without having to change over audio interfaces all the time.
As I don't have the wish to read through all that is written here - I just wanted to ask you: What interface (sound card) including two MIDI ports, are you using or would you recommend for a homestudio that needs to be able to record a five piece band?
2nd: Are you using only the MBP and an additional screen for your work?
@Zazquatch1 Next time sir, for your own good and update of knowledge, it will pay to understand why you should read certain things and keep them as profitable for future use. In this video, the Pro-Tools Digi 003 was utilized as the soundcard. I will however recommend to you the EDIROL FA 101 due to it's small size but HUGE features. It's inexhaustible. Hope you have found the information helpful.
@TOOshort2c I'm not sure what you mean by desk, BUT if I am not mistaken, the table top desk being used is a Quiklok table desk and the console (DESK) I have around on the same table is called the Digidesign 003 Le mixer console. I hope I answered your question.
@dopemcee For the demonstration that I am showing publicly, I am not concentrating on a punched out drum groove. It just a video to show dynamics and creativity. I could show a later video with that kind of flair, but i concentrate on the more professional and worthwhile part of technicalities and procedures.
Well said . You're music is beautiful, I try producing some of my own stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to gather a small studio like yours in time. Keep up the good work. ^^
Nice bassline, nice rhythm. If you could, show how you did a mastering this track.

what did you use for the drum sound? the quality is good
plople1 1 year ago
@plople1 Thanks sir. I used the BFD II drum plugin and I mixed and did the processing in post with the likes of sony oxford plugins on individual hits like the bass drum, the snare drum, hihats, cymbals, room mics, closeup mics and bleeds and others. I usually enjoy mixing to broadcast sound quality.

may i ask what is the name of the effect/synth you are playing at 04:27?

This is truly inspiring stuff! It demonstrates answers to a lot of questions I haven't been able to articulate yet since I'm just starting out. Thank you for posting it! Best of luck to you!

Excellent! Thanks for making this video. As a total rookie, could you tell me are the drum sounds from Logic? Drums sound great to me.
Thank you.......
chessdude67 1 year ago
@chessdude67 The plug-in drums that I used in this video is called BFD II.
It works both as a standalone and also as an instrument insert in Logic Pro or any other software DAW.

@rocksolid76 I've enjoyed your videos. Very informative. I have a few questions. I'm looking for a mic preamp can you recommend an quality and affordable one. And I would love a video tutorial on how I can get logic pro 8 to work on the Digi 003 interface. Thanks value your input.
getjjg 1 year ago
@getjjg Hi, sorry it's taken me quite a while to respond to you. I have been extremely caught up and busy. For preamps I will suggest the following: Presonus, Focusrite or Liquid mix. For the more high-end you are looking at Neve, Avalon, Manley or possibly the likes of SSL and maybe API lunchbox modules.
I will be making the video of Logic Pro & Digi 003 soon.
Stay tuned.

do u use the digi 003 as a mixer also or do u have a seperate mixer?
konChez33 1 year ago
@konChez33 As a matter of fact, i did use it as a front end mixer and monitor also.
rocksolid76 1 year ago
@rocksolid76 Hang on, let me get this straight. You used digidesign hardware with Logic? I thought that wasn't possible? I wanted to get the 003 but thought it wasn't fully compatible with Logic 9!
I prefer Reason 4 for software instruments and Logic for audio. Reason seems to have more options on that front
rawrgrr4298 1 year ago
@rawrgrr4298 After a series of trial and error I was able to work out the parity difference between the interface protocol and calculate the amount of latency by making Logic the Host and the 003 the slave. That way I have been able to make the 003 emulate an independent interface and it works absolutely fine as long as software monitoring in Logic 9 is enabled.
rocksolid76 1 year ago
@rocksolid76 I THINK i understand what you've done here. Ever since i heard about Digidesign and Logic Pro compatibility being pretty much 0% i've never really tried or considered buying any Digidesign hardware.
rawrgrr4298 1 year ago
@rawrgrr4298 It's worked very well for me so far and as a matter of fact, when I am in my smaller studio working, I can afford to do my mixing and mastering in Logic using the 003 interface and also switching directly into protools 8 to do any work be it mixing or mastering also.
rocksolid76 1 year ago
@rocksolid76 Oh my lord, that sounds like the perfect set up! I have to admit i've never used Pro Tools i think it's my opinion on locking hardware with certain software that annoyed me. I'm going uni soon so i guess i'll be working primarily on Pro Tools, gotta. get. some. experience.
rawrgrr4298 1 year ago
@rocksolid76 - I am still trying and erroring on that front...I have a digi003 and am forced to record in PT, my producers prefer logic so it's a bunch of back and forth...cant get logic to work correctly with D003, when I set a track on record the first fader just go bezerk...tried messing with it and fixed that but get weirder occurances...a vid on how to set that up would be grrreeaatt

love the trak!! i gotta a question anybody knows how to take off that background noise i have same noise and when recording audio it goes right in so i have to edit evrey track more than just cut and paste etc. ???
balhedz 1 year ago
@balhedz The background noise has to do with the acoustic properties of your environment, poor sound design of your listening area and possibly a microphone that is susceptible to high noise gain levels.
rocksolid76 1 year ago
@rocksolid76 what no not really wtf are you talking about the backround noise is metronome its just to keep you on beat so you keep the melody but if u do good without it go ahead
lucasbutris7 1 year ago
@dri0914 I personally used the digi 003 as an audio interface and it worked extremely well for me. I do have pro tools 8 also and use it a lot for audio related work but because I could use it as a bridge in Logic 9, I decided to employ it's use without having to change over audio interfaces all the time.
I think you are good to go with one.
rocksolid76 1 year ago
As I don't have the wish to read through all that is written here - I just wanted to ask you: What interface (sound card) including two MIDI ports, are you using or would you recommend for a homestudio that needs to be able to record a five piece band?
2nd: Are you using only the MBP and an additional screen for your work?
thanx
Zazquatch1 1 year ago
@Zazquatch1 Next time sir, for your own good and update of knowledge, it will pay to understand why you should read certain things and keep them as profitable for future use. In this video, the Pro-Tools Digi 003 was utilized as the soundcard. I will however recommend to you the EDIROL FA 101 due to it's small size but HUGE features. It's inexhaustible. Hope you have found the information helpful.
rocksolid76 1 year ago
@rocksolid76 - Thanx, I'll check the EDIROL out =)
I was looking at the FireFace 400. It' good but a bit expesive and has more in/outs than I really need...

What kind of desk is that? Good stuff by the way.
TOOshort2c 1 year ago
@TOOshort2c I'm not sure what you mean by desk, BUT if I am not mistaken, the table top desk being used is a Quiklok table desk and the console (DESK) I have around on the same table is called the Digidesign 003 Le mixer console. I hope I answered your question.

@rocksolid76 I found the Quiklok! Thanks, My studio really appreciates is lol.

you stuff is nice but your drum kits....i cant get with..they dont bang enough
dopemcee 1 year ago
@dopemcee For the demonstration that I am showing publicly, I am not concentrating on a punched out drum groove. It just a video to show dynamics and creativity. I could show a later video with that kind of flair, but i concentrate on the more professional and worthwhile part of technicalities and procedures.

Well said . You're music is beautiful, I try producing some of my own stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to gather a small studio like yours in time. Keep up the good work. ^^
