  • @aussiome How can he teach rockabilly without reverb?

  • Great lesson. I've been playing for years, but I have just started with the Rockabilly style. Keep posting the lessons, I will definitely follow. Nice work.

  • Great vid, but I'm with everyone else-- Cleaner sound would be a help us, and tabs! I'm checking out your other vids now ... Keep on rockin!

  • Hey man! Nice job with this lesson. Just got my 1st G5120 and was lookin for some kool first licks. Thanks.

  • hey bro whats up!! what model is your Gretsch or what is a real great one that sounds as good as yours ? i love your playing keep rockin man .

  • Nice video, picked up a couple new licks today. thanks

  • do you have any tabs to go along with your lessons or at least tell what frets your using on your main riff . Totally incredible riff! But i have trouble following your fingers.

  • At first i thought you had a bowling shirt on but then i looked and thats a gas station shit i like it

  • @pirrung123 It's a Elvis Presley Crown Electric work shirt that I bought when I went to Graceland..lol

  • @pirrung123 Haha, you said a gas station "shit". Hahaha

  • Hey man! awesome playin! any chance you could send/email me the backing track you have for this? and any other backing tracks you could share? im trying to learn and i find them a huge help but i havent been able to find any

  • Do you think you could post some tabs to go with the lessons? Or are they on a website of yours somewhere?

  • damn good job.....please get a clearer cam ?

  • Thanks Damian! what I like the most about your videos is that they are not directed to beginners so they are short, go right to the point and we can really improve our skills enormously in a reasonable amount of time without the need to spend hours in details. You are the best.

  • 'Sup, Damian, my name's Jonny Ace and I'm tryin' to figure out this lick without much sucess. At the begining , you say to be on the 5th fret, but you didn't mention what strings to hit. The video isn't a high enough resolution for me to see propery, so if you could let me know, that'd be really helpful.

  • Lov it :D

  • I was looking for some cool material (liks solos) to use over old R&R music so Thanks a lot for this lick. By the way I've just bought your DVD from eBay because you show some really cool stuff in this style so I anticipate to get more from your instructional DVD. Thanks a lot.

  • hola,, tocas muy bien,,, me gustan tus lecciones,,,saludos y gracias ...

  • great lesson dude, thanks!

  • Thanks for getting back to me on the flatwound question. Sorry to keep bugging you but are you using a wound third? Thanks again!

  • @danabaconmusic Yes, I am using a wound third.

  • what kind of gear are you usiing?

  • @9graff9 Fender Hot Rod Deville and a Boss delay pedal

  • @Damianblf How nice! got just the same :)

  • great sound

but can you explain better how to do the lick??

    (it's beautyfull)

    thanks for the vid!!

  • Great riff. Simple but really powerful. Thanks man.

  • Thanks! Are those flatwounds? They don't sound like it , just making sure. Wound third string? Thanks again, Dana

  • @danabaconmusic No, they aren't flatwounds, I don't really like the way flatwounds feel and sound.

  • I can't do that...! I got stoopid fingers...

  • Hi! what strings are you using? Thanks! Dana

  • @danabaconmusic I am using D'Addario 13 gauge strings

  • where did u get the playalongrecord of this?

  • @TheSixtenZone The backing track is something I made myself with my 4 track recorder. This backing track and others are available on my Rockabilly guitar instructional dvd called "Hot Rod Rockabilly Guitar" being sold on ebay.

  • @Damianblf thanks (:

  • BOTH hands should be visible when showing the chord fingering, so we can see which strings are involved to play each chord. I LIKE the way your guitar sounds, man.

  • Where did u get the Rockabilly Playalong record?

  • Nice. I didn't get into rockabilly until I heard Danny Gatton utilize it in his playing. I need to get some of this stuff under my belt, thanks. Joe

  • Name of the song from the first lick?

  • @xz744 This solo is based on the solo from "Jeanie Jeanie Jeanie"

  • Awesome lix! Thanks alot!!!

  • nice, thanks a lot man

  • Yes Hughjorgann i do suck at guitar and i am man enough to admit it.I am a REAL REGISTERED TEACHER but not in music and was just expressing what would happen if i taught this way. You're answer was a bit imature and reminds me of a playground squabble. Now grow up or i will get my dad!

  • You just single handedly got be back into guitar. Thanks man! These videos are great. Hope to be ordering your dvd soon.

  • Thanks. I'll be stopping by for the whole series. My fingers hurt a bit..

  • hey can yu gimme the link download to the backtrack or atleast the name i want something to play with

  • I am a teacher and this is no way to teach. If i taught using you do this like and that like now do it yerself i would be struck off.I tried this methoud for a laugh and got nothing but deadly silence and blank expressions....LIKE!

  • what are you talking about,I have never played guitar before in my life and after the second time I watched this video I was playing just like he does,I will now start a rockabilly band

  • I'm not a beginner and have played a bit of this style before but I picked up a couple of ideas and could follow along really easily. Thanks heaps for the vid!

  • The guy is teaching like most friends teach each other. As long as you already play a little, this method works very well...

  • doneadump your a fucking tool!! you must suck at guitar, and for that your mad. ha ha get a clue!! i was a music teacher for 20 years!! and this is how i tought my students back then. and it works dipshit..

  • I can't get the sound for the very last chord. Anyone know it?

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Its like an A7 pantonic. notice the flat d. he is good at teaching, just rewind the vid. thats what i did.

  • ur good and everything but please slow down and show everything step by step, other then that tho very good job bro

  • People here need to chill out with the negative comments. Constructive criticism is fine but chill the eff out.

It was his first rockabilly lesson vid, watch the others. You're lucky these are up here for free. Just watch it and play it and stop crying. You want concise instructions??

GO PAY $45 AN HOUR FOR IT THEN

With that said, Damian, your vids are awesome man. You have some awesome licks and they're really helping me out with soloing.

    Thank you.

  • @MacStevenXIII Yea Free Lessons for the Win!!!

  • this video was like that and then you go like and after that its like and thats how i watched it.

when you teach someone guitar, the fret numbers are not "like" and string numbers are not "like" and the finger numbers are not "like"

please describe what finger to put on which string. i only hear the frets you mention.

you are great at guitar though but it's hard to understand you. ill be moving on to a different youtube channel now. thanks for the attempt

  • you are clearly a tool its better to use your ears and sound out bits of a song than to have somebody feed it directly into your head coz then its just harder to remember

  • Thankyou!!

  • Hi can somebody tell me what key this is in? Am I right in thinking this is a major pentatonic blues scale? Great lesson, but i'm just having a bit of trouble working out what you are playing :D

  • Blues in A...yup just pentatonic stuff

  • Comment removed

  • do you have a tab for this?

  • oh....sorry...just to clear things up..my last comment was directed at kinnje1.

  • i didint learn a shit of that you just say: the first movement is like and then you play it fast, then you do the same down here...

  • ummmm.........what......????????

  • it's easier to learn with a clean sound but i do like to hear it like it's supposed to be, with echo. Could you do Billy Page by Buzz and hot rod lincoln

  • please turn the echo effect down so that it's easier for me to hear the note. Thank you for the lesson.

  • Great video man!!!

    Which the key of music?

    Thanks!!!

  • I wonder if anyone knows what chord you normaly use in country blues.? Appreicate the one who tells me.

  • Very cool , thanks man.

  • Thanks Damian, Ive learned a lot from you. Billy Gibbons. (No, Im not THAT Billy Gibbons, I'm one from the UK)

  • cool pickin..really enjoyed your guitar work..when you gonna post the burnette/grady martin licks that you mentioned?

  • Do you know where I can find that first riffs tab

  • great post, thanks very much.

Its nice to see Rockabilly lessons on Youtube. I've found it difficult at best to find quality tabs for some of the more basic riffs, and have a hard time working them out by ear. thanks again.

    Chris

  • Damian. You are awsome. I haven't played the guitar for over 10 years.I have just purchased a Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet, which, although a cheap Chinese job, is still a pretty great guitar. Anyway, your vids are so inspiring that I might even learn to play the thing. I love what you're doing and I hope you post heaps more Rockabilly vids.

  • Go Cat Go! Thanks for your help and for posting your work for others like me to learn.

    Cheers.

  • Darn, I just give up!

  • You need to tell us what the notes are, or post up a Tab or something. I really cant see whats going on. And your saying Put your finger on the 5th, and your whole hand is on 4 different strings.

Too confusing. And I want to learn this lick...

  • Very true. I find DVDs/visual lessons tough, but I'm getting better at ear stuff. About time, four years into the damn thing.

  • thanx man it helped alot...the video might be blurry but a guitarist learns by ear too so i didn't have much of a problem

  • You seem to know what you're doing.

However...the view is too blurry to see your fingers, and you speak too quickly throughout the video. I've watched it like 5 times now and I can't tell where your hands are. There aren't fret markers for us Gretsch players, you know! lol

  • Very nice. Very helpful. Thank you!

  • cool ! I love the rockabilly sound and I have not found lessons that focus on it- btw I love your Morr/Smiths covers.

  • these videos are a great idea. Makes me wish I wasn't so incompetent with the guitar.

  • Hey man... first of all, sorry obout my english, i'm brasilian..

I liked a lot your vídeo.. very cool...

can you upload this backing track on the internet or tell me the name, and where can i download it....

    thankss...

    congratulations, and sucess to you...

  • Cool man, keep the lessons coming!!!

    Greetings from Germany!

Ps: Can you play more clean sound, than it's a little easier to learn i guess...
