when my boyfriends parents called me pretty in mandarin. I reply 那里,那里 (Nàlǐ,Nàlǐ) It means ‘I am not so good, you are flattering me ’. Chinese people tend to be shy when praised by others, so traditionally their will response in that sentence instead of "Thank you". I was told that from my teacher that was from Beijing. But very good videos as always :)

@systemfx That's true, particularly of those from Beijing. Who are taught to be more reserved/humble in the more traditional sense. Whereas in Shanghai, the girls would EAT THAT ALL UP!!
