From all the server, why use microsoft? Linux is more flexible and bullet proof and does not need to touch the server for couple years. Program it and let it run for years. Oh and it's free!!
@jcer93705 I am very familiar with Linux, I would prefer to have our rack running CentOS or Slackware... However, in our business Enviroment it just won't work. Our applications require Windows and will not run under an emulator like Wine etc. =)
I love dell servers. great price used at geeks.com. they sound like a jet though (like 55 db, i cant live with that, all my servers are in my bedroom), i only use dell or custom build servers
Honestly, since Generation 9 Poweredge, I've seen the reliability as good as, if not better, than HP. Dell's support is also far superior nowadays. I've got a 2950 in my rack here at home. It's a beast with its pair of 3ghz Xeon 5160 DC, 16G of ram and 3x 300G SAS drives. Runs esxi with 11 VMs currently.
@mathieupoussin Dell's management tools are different. Perhaps a little more "summarized" than HP's but when you get used to it, they really do provide a good level of reporting on the server's health and status. I also like the display on the front. Easy glance to tell if there's a problem.
No air cooling, we are currently moving into a new buidling. New building will have appropriate cooling... The room does get hot, especially with the new server we just added. If you want too save money go with Dell. The poweredge series are very cheap, but not as reliable as the HP's
There is no Air cooling in this room !? (Because you turn on the fan)
Just a question, i plain to buy a cheap server (personal usage for developments/tests under Linux or Windows Server), do you recommend Dell or HP ? ;) (i need a rack that is not too loud (fans speed regulated, not like my old dl360 g2 with it's huge fan that don't spin down !)
@poussin78640 I'd say go with Dell.. The poweredge line has regulated fans which stay quite quiet, but if it gets to hot they sound like freaking jets taking off >_>
i need some help configering the media pool for a quantium dlt tape back up

What about the managements tools of Dell ? I've heard they are not so good than the HP ones (DRAC vs ILO, OpenManage vs Insight Manager)
