I was thinking about this car today and how similar the Subaru and Toyota versions are and the 2 futures of these cars and I think the only way Toyota can discern itself from the scooby is implimenting new sports hybrid systems into the GT86, like a tranny with a all electric first gear to 30mph to make a quick getaway without using any fuel or regenerative braking. If Toyota is serious about hybrids and having a new sporty look they need to start thinking like this. What do you guys think?

I fuckin love the new 86. but really, why the fuck would you buy it? ae86 will always be a better drivers car in my opinion. the rawness of it (comparatively speaking-lack of onboard computer etc) gives it more soul and character. i can understand the 'spiritual connection' toyota was trying to grasp, but in all honesty, if they began reproducing ae86's to the same specs of the day (local road law permitting) and sold them at around the same cost id have the ae86 over the Gt86 in a heartbeat

FT-86 concepts & Scion FRS concept were so nice. and I really wanted to get one when it would come out. But this GT-86 has different front and rear lights and they look so bad. What do you think about the lights Derek D? The best design I can say was of Scion FRS.
JF, for the driving to France thing at the end, then you can still drive to the East Coast from wherever you are, then put your car on a boat (much like the ferry) and drive to France going over the Atlantic too. With that logic, you can drive your car practically anywhere.
@Mrsneezy111 The rear fender openings are off and the rim/tire combo don't hold up. The tail-lights and bumper rely on the exhaust tips to suggest any kind of sporting character, which is also a let down.
Overall, it comes across as a knock off of the old Nissan 350 Z, mashed up with a Mitsu whatever it was, mixed in with some Hyundai coupe. As a "new" car it looks 5 years past due.
Why is it that we are so gullible as to have brands like Scion, Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura, when they are sold everywhere else in the world under their real names, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda? Hey great! Put a different badge on it, jack the price up a few k, and sell it to the gullible Americans. No wonder everyone thinks we build crap.

I fuckin love the new 86. but really, why the fuck would you buy it? ae86 will always be a better drivers car in my opinion. the rawness of it (comparatively speaking-lack of onboard computer etc) gives it more soul and character. i can understand the 'spiritual connection' toyota was trying to grasp, but in all honesty, if they began reproducing ae86's to the same specs of the day (local road law permitting) and sold them at around the same cost id have the ae86 over the Gt86 in a heartbeat

OH GREAT!! Here in the states it's going to be a SCION!!?!?! Well, there go my plans to look at one. Fuckin' Scion... I mean, I know it makes sense.. Scion is like Toyota's Pontiac... But hey, SCION IS LIKE TOYOTAS POINTIAC!! FUCK THAT! Maybe I could still buy one and just swap out the badges for T's : )

And at the same time, Subaru has revealed their rendition of the GT-86 (in pictures at least).
Interior looks nice in pictures. Didn't expect the 86 to have something like it. I was expecting the same old Toyota dullness interior with the blank cubby hold in the center of the dashboard (where the satnav should be).

Hate the name FRS, but I am glad its here atleast... Finally!!!!... I want every one who buys it in North America to de-badge the scion badge and make it Toyota or TRD...

FT-86 concepts & Scion FRS concept were so nice. and I really wanted to get one when it would come out. But this GT-86 has different front and rear lights and they look so bad. What do you think about the lights Derek D? The best design I can say was of Scion FRS.

JF, for the driving to France thing at the end, then you can still drive to the East Coast from wherever you are, then put your car on a boat (much like the ferry) and drive to France going over the Atlantic too. With that logic, you can drive your car practically anywhere.

@Mrsneezy111 The rear fender openings are off and the rim/tire combo don't hold up. The tail-lights and bumper rely on the exhaust tips to suggest any kind of sporting character, which is also a let down.
Overall, it comes across as a knock off of the old Nissan 350 Z, mashed up with a Mitsu whatever it was, mixed in with some Hyundai coupe. As a "new" car it looks 5 years past due.

Why is it that we are so gullible as to have brands like Scion, Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura, when they are sold everywhere else in the world under their real names, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda? Hey great! Put a different badge on it, jack the price up a few k, and sell it to the gullible Americans. No wonder everyone thinks we build crap.

it's perfectly legit to cover only the highlights but always cover anything electric. I know you think you can't please everyone, some want to see the inbred camaros, but there is such a thing as truth. there is such a thing as actually important. and electric is it. even if the tea party idiots may hate it now, they need to know. and it's where we are headed. so have the balls to lead, not be fodder for the nascar sheep.
