I am very curious where name "Syria" is from. The paper for which Hajj Amin al-Husseini worked in Jerusalem in 1918 was called "Al-Syriya al-Janubiya" - southern Syria. So while "Palestine" was for Arabs "a term Zionists invented," Syria was something more acceptable, at least at that time. I have loads of indications that the Arabs of today;s Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan saw and still see themselves as one sub-culture. If "Syria" is a new word, what did they call themselves before?

It is also very debatable to deny that the violent radicals of islam have at least indirect support in basic islamic traditions. These guys may break some of the codes of waging war against the infidels accepted in the 'classical' islam but this does not mean that there is not such indirect support (unfortunately it is, and plenty). I have already done my home work in history. You're saying that most scholars came from places where Muslims have conquered. That doesn't mean that they were scholars at the time of the conquest. In fact, Most of them regardless of their ethnic background were born with Arabic names and raised as Muslims as Islam is no more centralized in Arabian Peninsula or around an ethnic group. I am very curious where name "Syria" is from. The paper for which Hajj Amin al-Husseini worked in Jerusalem in 1918 was called "Al-Syriya al-Janubiya" - southern Syria. So while "Palestine" was for Arabs "a term Zionists invented," Syria was something more acceptable, at least at that time. I have loads of indications that the Arabs of today;s Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan saw and still see themselves as one sub-culture. If "Syria" is a new word, what did they call themselves before?

It is also very debatable to deny that the violent radicals of islam have at least indirect support in basic islamic traditions. These guys may break some of the codes of waging war against the infidels accepted in the 'classical' islam but this does not mean that there is not such indirect support (unfortunately it is, and plenty). I don't think we can win the war against muslim violence / discrimination etc on long term based on a fantasy...islam as a whole must be introduced in the equation..

I have already done my home work in history. You're saying that most scholars came from places where Muslims have conquered. That doesn't mean that they were scholars at the time of the conquest. In fact, Most of them regardless of their ethnic background were born with Arabic names and raised as Muslims as Islam is no more centralized in Arabian Peninsula or around an ethnic group. There antecedents are often Arabic, Persian, Indian, etc..

Turkey is one of the first countries in the world where women had the election right in the parliament and in general elections which was more than 20 years earlier than France. Turkey is even far better than many EU countries in eastern Europe in implementing EU regulations and laws. One should study his task well before attemting to make such stupid comments.

This has in many circumstances been demonstrated through violent repressions and in the 90s in particular escalated greatly. Granted it was with the outright support of the US State Dept. and with weapons obtained through the US military so I suppose it would be fair to say that violent repression is not something unfamiliar to the major democracies.
