i just made a recipe of whole wheat bread minutes ago, i did use baking powder instead of yeast. the dough obviously didn't double its size and it's kinda bitter on the inside.
if you use chemical levener and your bread tastes bitter, you might have used a little too much baking powder.maybe, next time you can replace some of the water with a little beer and reduce the baking powder.remember, a little can go a long way (sometimes)
OR, u can leave the yeast ALONE in water with sugar to activate it
