Do you have any other clips from the early series? I was on the first series with my aunt's family, we were 'The Walker Family', would love to see a clip of it!
It's only now, when I look back, that I realise how american Bob's style of performance was. Yet he still managed to tap in to the british psychye. He must have really understood his audience, to have achieved that.
Once again the current ITV has ruined a good gameshow by making it a Z list celebrity affair. "All Star Family Fortunes" is utter rubbish designed to boost the egios further of the Z listers that appear. Bring Back Family Fortunes as it was, with real families from the general public.
Couldnt agree more! though its typical of the crud that ITV try to force feed us. Thank god for cable & satelite tv and the memories of the late GREAT Bob!
Have you got sdaonline the Family Fortunes ep with Max where the bloke says turkey three time in big money and when its take the two familys four gos to name a famous irishman if u hav the full ep can u upload it please.
Blimey I am getting old, I remember this style of Family Fortunes when I was about 5 years old! The set and theme music was also similar in the Max Bygraves era.
i taped a lot of stuff off challenge - adventure game, oppotunity knocks, new faces, knightmare - plus some other things as well. anything you are after?
Thanks. I really like reading your insights on these clips! Yes, from Challenge, when they had an xmas series of old game shows which I taped most of at the time.
This first went out on 7th January 1983, though this recording must be from 2002/03, when Challenge had dropped the "TV" but was still just about what it had been.
You can sense from this alone just why so many game show producers used Bob so often for so long - as with Bruce, he was capable of much more, but they remain the UK's best two game show presenters ever (many sniff at them, but game shows are devilishly hard to get right). I like the gentle pisstake of the IBA-enforced prize limits.
Great description lol and thanks for posting.

Ah..Bob Monkhouse, sadly missed. He lost his fight against prostrate cancer in December 2003, he should still be with us like Brucie.

Judging by the quality of the gifts, you can understand why there wasn't a credit crisis back then.

Started off BRILLIANT with Bob, then watered down by the bumbling wreck Max Bygone then slowly sunk by Les Dennis!
