  • FUCK YOUUU!

  • you go ~~~ bossy boo !

  • I cried at the end of that documentary, how fuckin' beautiful.

  • Is this where c-lo got his hit song? I think so.

  • Peter Frampton plays electric on this..

  • *happy valentine* :-D

  • HARRY IS A GOD ....

  • John Lennon on back up vocals and George Harrison on Guitar. This could have been a Beatles song!

  • when i heard C-Lo's f-you song i thought of this, i think he did too.

  • peter frampton was this guys guitar player. cool dude

  • Paynus in the Aynus

  • I love Nilsson! But the documentary sucked

  • Another of my favorites from this album was "Take 54"

It was one of the first 8-tracks I bought through Columbia House.

    One of Harrys Best!!

  • I love you Harry...

  • PRIVATE SCHOOL!!!! haha

  • great lyrics, awesome tune, so **** you. You Rock Harry.

  • John Lennon sang (maybe co-wrote) this song with him.

  • @elleboucher I am reasonably sure Lennon didn't have any involvement in writing, singing or playing on this track. I suppose there is the possibility of something that was "uncredited" but I think this album was before Lennon's "Lost Weekend" period where he was hanging out with Nilsson. Lennon DID produce Harry's PUSSY CATS LP.

  • ニルソン"シュミルソン2世”からの、軽快ロックン・ロール、ジョージのスライドがイイネ、"You're Breaking My Heart"~ともかく豪華ゲストのR・ペリー制作だった

  • My favourite break up song. :)

  • Ha ha good one!

  • Nevermind I found it in like 5 minutes after learning Harry's name, the movie was Private School.

  • This song has been stuck in my head since the 80's, it was in a movie intro, something Cherry High or something like that, lol, and I never knew who sang it. Now that I know what this song was, can someone tell me the name of the movie?

  • I have Loved this song forever , it is my bad day blast it song !!!!

Sing it loud get it out of your system !!!

    Thanks Harry

  • I saw the documentary,it was great and really showcased a awesome talent!!!

  • Imagine a young girl listening to her mom's new album, we loved "Without You" so when this girl heard this song, she laughed hysterically thinking she would be punished for even hearing it. Those words weren't in the songs then...still laughing! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • Best post break up song!

  • Love it

  • Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of my X wife. We'd only been married for 6 months back in 1974 at the tender age of 19. One day I came home from work and plopped down on the couch to unwind. So I start looking through a Sears catalog (as there were no other magazines around) and what should fall out but a love letter from her boss. At the time it hurt real bad & I left. But she did me a favor as I'm now with my wife of 30 years and 3 great sons. When one door closes, another one opens

  • Re theclimb112, You posting bullshit on the Internet has left me scared for humanity you freak.

  • That was a great documentary.

  • Terrific!

  • How can you get a dislike...but anyway, great song, non the less...

  • better than that stupid ceelo green song

  • The documentary - in full - is also on BBC iPlayer right now.

Btw, MrTyersal, the f-word was used by Nilsson's best pal, John Lennon, some time before this, in "Working-Class Hero".

  • Best doc iv seen on nillson its on virgin tv catch up

  • i remember this song from my years gone by, i tell some of the kids i work with now about it and they think imlying....so glad it its here. thanks for posting...!!!

  • Harry had so many styles, the ultimate kiss of song, way before anyone dare say the fuck word. Power to you H.

  • the quintessential fuck you song... thanks Harry!

  • @dannydutchboy2011 Is this what you spend your recess doing? Sad kid. Acquire friends.

  • I just watched Who is Harry Nilsson. Paul McCartney got everyone to sing this song at his grave. Aftershocks from the 1994 Northridge Earthquake were shaking his casket. That was a great documentary. I'm sure that moment was even greater.

  • @Domophobia George Harrison

  • @PADOC76 Thanks

  • @Domophobia What documentary you´ve mentioned?

  • @diuga1 It's called "Who is Harry Nilsson and Why is Everybody Talking About Him." It was good.

  • @Domophobia Thanks for the info, Domo!

  • Excuse me

  • 5 dislikes..? well, F*CK YOU!!!!!

  • peter frampton on guitar

  • I dont have a damn man & im done entertaining this it just upsets me no wonder i had a damn seizure.i get it you hate me! i get it ok! i love you danny goodbye & I mean it I am done entertaining this dont need anymore of it.

  • Iam not jealous over him god quit acting like your in high school. act like an adult for once in your life. And I still love you too goodbye

  • was this one produced by lennon by any chance?

  • WORST THING EVER

  • Great opening to the classic Private School. Not as iconic as the We Got the Beat opening of Fast Times, but a lot funnier.:D

  • I did see the documentary last week, it was GREAT!! I think I'll have to buy it.

  • @dnadavidlv so why can"T i add it to my playlist ? great song but if i have to listen to it all alone i guess i'll just have to pass :(

  • @dnadavidlv what documentary ?

  • @Kazekage5th "Who is Harry Nilsson and Why Is Everybody Talkin About Him". I've heard his songs but never heard of Harry personally. After watching the documentary, I'm a fan. It's on Netflix streaming. Watch it!

  • Great song. I forgot that he sang this, so thanks for posting it. I just finished seeing a documentary on his life, if you're a Nilsson fan you gotta see it. I learned so much about this brilliant artist. They truly don't make 'em like that anymore. Tremendous talent that left us too soon. R.I.P. Harry

  • 5 people are heartbreakers

  • We can all relate to this. Whenever the lyrics pop into my head, at any time, I always get a good laugh. I'm just discovering Nilsson's amazing vesatiltiy and productivity including the 20s and 30s classic recordings. I completely understand why John Lennon and Paul McCartney named Nilsson as their favorite singing artist.

  • When I posted this, over a year ago, I never thought it would get responses. I posted it after a really bad split. Been hearing this song since I was a kid, and it never meant so much to me, as it did a year ago. I'm glad you found it here. Harry was AWESOME, he could sing ANYTHING!!

BTW, I like the Cee Lo song too, if you've been through it, you know how these songs can fit a certain mood.

Thanks for all the comments, have a nice weekend.

  • @dnadavidlv One of the greatest voices of all time. Gone way too early. Thanks for the post.

  • Hadn't heard this song in 30 years ! What a classic ! Another funny one from Nilsson is " I'd Rather Be Dead ". Unfortunately , he left us too soon and like all geniuses , underapprieciated in his time . Rock on Harry , wherever you are !!!!!!

  • Thank you BBC for introducing this gem to me... what a loss the too soon death of this genius was. One can only imagine what else he could have left for our entertainment.

  • it's 3:30 am and i just found out i'm getting divorced....sing it harry...

  • @BelaskoTheNinja I can so relate brother, I can sssoooooo relate!!!

  • I was given this album in 1973....I still have it. This is the perfect f**k you song....lolol It should be played at every divorce.

  • OMG I am a MASSIVE Nilsson fan but have NEVER heard this...thank-you so much for posting ....PEACE xxx

  • This is a good track it a follow up for the album Nilsson Schmilsson

  • I've ben a fan for years, but I never heard this song until just this minute, on the BBC tribute documentary 'Imagine - Harry Nilsson: the Missing Beatle.' What a voice, what a genius, what a man! And his last wife Una was (still is) one of the most beautiful women in the world!

  • @Kevin107ish same here! now I'm addicted, I just can't stop listening to it :)

  • @Kevin107ish completely agree. i was brought onto nilsson from john lennon. he's incredible. and the bbc documentary was also superb. love this song!

  • This song has to be played on every divorce.

  • "You wanna drive my car, am I not a star?"

  • I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED IF HARRY MEANT "BUT FUCK YOU" OR "BUTT FUCK YOU" ????????????

  • he said "but fuck you" Always thought it was funny as a kid.

  • george harrysong on slide, richie snare on drums, john uribe also played on album

  • Some random trivia...Peter Frampton is the guitarist on this song and the album Son of Schmillson. I believe I spelled that wrong too...lol

  • George had good taste in Nilsson songs. This is the all-time champ of breakup songs. Hallmark ought to put it in one of those greeting cards that play music when you open them.

  • Who hasn't felt this way after a break-up ? After wallowing in self-pity for awhile , the next stage is to be pissed off. Harry expressed that perfectly with this song.

  • harry nilsson was a badass.

  • I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The most perfect break up song ever made! Harry Nillson, one of the most talented singer/songwriters in history.

  • yes, this song puts it all in to perspective. thank-you daddy for all the wonderful music you exposed me to as a youngster.... btw, this is dedicated to you matt

  • Harry Nilsson ROCKS!!!! BTW, Sully? This song is dedicated to you!

  • I am so in love with this man and his music.

  • This is the world's greatest broken heart song.

  • I've sure missed Harry.......Love this album!

  • Oh this song made my day a hundred times better. :)

  • 5 people think this song is about them.

  • @TinKnocka420 : THE BEST cooment :)

  • My favorite love song! :>)

  • all time nilsson fav. Have the vinyl. Fitting for every jackass or Ahole that broke your heart you still love like the ass you are.

  • genius

  • Has anyone seen a clip of the performance film for this song, seen only briefly in the film "Who Is Harry Nilsson" ?

  • Today I learned some asshat is trying to re-make this most excellent song.

  • @Khirzask IMPOSSIBLE...THERE IS ONLY ONE harry...

  • Love this song. Just about says it all about a bad break up. Everyone thinks Cee Lo is so controversial for his song, but this was recorded in the early 70's. So fuck you Cee Lo.

  • @1oldhipster Cee Lo IS controversial for his song, eheh. :p

  • I should have sent this to the last girl i went out with

  • I hear A Lennon influence here. Did he help with this?

  • @Teesdale007 They influenced each other. Nilsson and Lennon were close friends. John Lennon produced Harry's "Pussycats" album and the cover shows their heads on kitty bodies. During Lennon's infamous "lost weekend" he and Nilsson were tossed from a club for heckling the Smothers Brothers.

  • @kosherspeare

    You are not correct.

The song was published in 1948. Though credited to Pat Genaro and Sunny Skylar, the song is just an American version of the famous Italian song 'Mattinata' written by Ruggero Leoncavallo in the beginning of 20th century.

  • @dlrice

What exactly am I mistaken about? Look at my comment and tell me where I'm wrong.

  • @dlrice

I'm waititing, loudmouth. You're right on top of people you think are "wrong". Put up or shut the fuck up with your pathetic little wiki-searches, sweet pea.

  • @Teesdale007

Could be. Both of them were heavily influenced by each other. They really fed off each other.

  • you're breakin my heart you're tearin it apart so fuck you:(

  • Used to hear this almost every day on, of all stations, for those of you familiar, KRLA, in Los Angeles, as I drove to and from UCLA. They said at the time that John Lennon performed on this recording, as well, but I don't know if that is true.

  • @1dublj Actually, it's George Harrison and Peter Frampton on guitars. I've heard Lennon assisted with the lyrics.

  • Love, love, love this song, so fuck you (smile).

  • Who the fuck is Cee Lo? I'm serious, never heard of him.

  • Song is a tad over the top.But the guy was a genius.Know lots of people who can relate to this.Myself included.

  • so fuck you!!! that part is funny!!

  • I liked Cee Lo's F**k You, but Nilsson's just really can make a tune that any type of singer can sing. Nilsson was a true talent, it's sad that Bob Dylan hogs all the spotlight for great writing, cause Harry Nilsson really made a lot of great songs.

  • Is this a karaoke version or do I need to look for it. Because I have been wanting to sing this song at my favorite karaoke spot.

  • I remember getting loaded on Colt 45 and singing this song!

    Wow!

  • stop sayin this is like f**k you by cee-lo green its nothing like it anybody can say f... you in a song your just making yourselfs look stupid.

  • First this was written wa-a-a-a-a-y before Cee-lo was even born. Yeah, admittedly the Cee-lo song is good. But this isn't just saying Fuck you for Fuck you's sake. This is was considered THE breakup song of the 70's, unless you've had your feelings stomped on like a narc at a biker rally, you might not "connect" with the vememous feeling this song's projecting, but to call Harry Nilsson "stupid" is undermining the intelligence I assume you have. Plus he was The Beatles favorite songwriter. THERE

  • Good Ole' George Harrison, he did lead the sing along at his funeral.

  • Last Thursday I watched the documentary "Who is Harry Nilsson? (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him)" it is so interesting so many things I did not know about him. He was Pure Genious. First time I ever heard this song, I was a sophomore in high school.

  • Not to mention, he's been dead since 94

  • The Greatest Song Ever Written

  • my girlfriend just broke up with me for my best friend, guess what I told her?

  • @residentevlidead Fuck you?

  • Regarded by some of the most talented musicians of all time to have had one of the greatest of all voices. (i.e. John Lennon)

  • Nothin' against the guy, I can even admit that it came first than Cee Lo Green's F**k You, but we can't even compare Cee Lo's voice with this guy's voice, I mean, Harry's voice is great, but Cee Lo's voice is like heaven-sent.

  • @GodSeekerPW

are you retarded? seriously, so absolutely retarded that you are saying that. to be clear, Nilsson has a grammy for best male performance for Everybody's Talkin, theme of Midnight Cowboy. He is regarded as one the best and most innovative vocalists around, never mind his song writing. His vocals on THIS recording are not great my any means, but before you say retarded shit, maybe do a little research.

  • Comment removed

  • @DogBoneRanch idiot is the tech term, retards are retards. whatever the word we call them eventually becomes offensive. The word moron, along with others including, "idiotic,"imbecilic,"stupid," and feeble-minded," was formerly considered a valid descriptor in the psychological community, but it is now deprecated in use by psychologists because people like you have a retard nephew and think you are somehow 'special" like him. ive got one too, i only get offended at people acting like it matters

  • its so fucking dumb to say that any musician is better than another. & your ignorance shines even brighter as you argue on youtube, clogging up the comments with name calling.

  • Happy Valentines Day

  • Aww come on , who hasn't felt that????

  • Harry Nilsson was way ahead of Cee Lo Green.

  • @TheBlackycat I totally agree! H. Nillson was an incredible talent that was on par w/the biggies in R & R!

  • @TheBlackycat still is

  • @TheBlackycat i know, right?? i said the same thing!! :-)

  • @TheBlackycat oh, and how he MEANS it.

  • @TheBlackycat plus nilsson was the voice, cee lo is just a fat squeaky fucker

  • I don't have any interest in some big fat ugly turd mumbling in a pimp suit so just go away,,, Viva La Harry

  • All the respect in the world to Cee Lo but at least give some credit to one of the most underrated artist of all time Harry Nilsson

  • Ahhhh Cee Lo Harry did it first and better.

  • Man definitely pre PMRC & Tipper Gore & the bullshit censorship of music this is the quintessential breakup song everyone needs this song in their collection of music it is good for all breakup occasions I know some music can be pretty fowl but I do miss the days when you could say what you wanted in a song & not hear a frigging bleep on the radio thanks for posting it.

  • this song played at the first of private school.i have the soundtrack ep on vinyl but this wasnt included and i was pissed.

  • @SonofMrPeanut I watched the documentary, and it was fabulous.

  • 3 ppl are breaking my heart for being haters so FUCK YOU.....

  • They said George Harrison led a sing along of the at Harry's funeral.

  • SO FUCK YOU :D

  • heard this in Breakfast on Pluto

  • 0:41 Boo Hoo

  • what a great song !!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favorite Nilsson songs, LOL! Seriously, Harry Nilsson was such a marvelous musician. All the vocals are his; he never used backup singers (that I know of). If you haven't seen the documentary about him, I highly recommend it. "Who is Harry Nilsson (and Why is Everybody Talkin' About Him)?"

  • Comment removed

  • @ErinSpirit It's available for instant streaming on Netflix's instant queue, so if you're a subscriber there's really no excuse to not watch it.

  • where do I get this ring tone!!

  • 2 people don't have souls or sense- there peens are small too.

  • peter frampton and ringo play on this album

  • @et2petty George Harrison also plays on this song. Said it was his favorite Nilsson song.

  • Haha I love this song. What album is it on?

  • @shmadsta Son of Schmilsson (1972)

  • @shmadsta ...duit on mondae

  • @shmadsta It's on his 8th album, "Son of Schmilsson".

  • You know, lean back and listen, then imagine this: picture Harry and Joe Walsh doing this song! In parts of this, Harry's singing has that...ah...Walshness to it, and if you listen to some of Joe's stuff, you can almost hear Harry. Hey, it's just my opinion. But think about it. Anyhow, 35 years ago, I couldn't even say the "F" word. Then I heard this song. Been going down hill ever since!! Thanks, Harry, and be at rest. I know what you'd be saying to me: "F" YOU!!

  • call the radio station and request this song
