that is what I was told long time ago, I think it might have to do with air being trapped as you squeeze it through. Heck I could be wrong, some of my older ones have an arrow. Hmmmm.....now ya got me wondering...ha!
Putting the folded edge in first ensures that you won't somehow get the two ends out of line and mess up the folder, breaking the seam, for instance. However, I find that putting it into the machine side ways puts less pressure on the folded edge and makes my embossing folders last longer.
