Weirder, Ash is the same age now as he was at the beginning of the show despite having celebrated the anniversary of him getting Pikachu in one of the short films: he's constantly stated to be the same age as each new female protagonist (11/12), but should be at least 14.

This is like, if the Pokemon main player (or Ash, if you wanna use that fag) grew up and returned to Pokemon training after college or something. Dusted off the old Pokedex from their childhood bedroom closet and put on the Trainer gloves they hadn't worn since a teenager, once again.

All of a sudden, a wind of nostalgia comes sweeping in. Powerglove plays. A sudden rush of old and familar feelings, somehow mixed in with newer and grown up ones, too. "It's time to visit the Professor."
