  • How far away was that meeting?

  • You have to be a moron not to outrun an 18 wheeler.

  • @loh1110 Don't forget...its a Dodge.

  • He plays GTA like my grandmother.

  • I was 8 when this movie came out, scared the hell outta me but I couldnt stop watching.

  • @Mr7475ih I was 7, my first taste of "suspense" and "anxiety", remember it like it was last week. Great movie!

  • @OhJaniceWhyOhWhy Thats just one of those movies ya never forget.

  • i really like this truck

  • @benzyeap i cant sleep because of him

  • thumbs up if you love and watch duel

  • Due to the filming of Duel, we now enjoy warmer seas, more sunshine and less harsh winters. Bring out Duel 2 and quick!

  • omg watch out 2:01

  • I don't know why he just didn't get behind him... he'd be all set then.

  • カメラワーク上手すぎる。

  • The Truck drivers the Stig.

  • At 00:20 the truck" I'll kill him"

    and the train" do it"

  • @TheRifle9 look in my video talking cars and i prove your wrong

  • my dad and i like it

  • "All he really needed was a can of oil! he could have picked it just about anywhere!"

  • the driver fo the truck is none other than legendary stunt driver carry loften i most likely spelld his frist name wrong but anyways he wrecked a total of 5 or 6 thouand cars in his movie career as a stunt driver and in my opinion was an equil conterpart to bill hickman Aka the 7ups , french connection and bullet almongst other movies bill hickman drove the charger in bullet and the cars in the other 2 films .

  • Has anyone ever thought the guy in the cars wife wanted him killed? She seemed like a real bitch....... Just a thought

  • This movie is brilliant in its simplicity, simply spell-bounding... .what a masterpiece !!

  • SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD SD40-2!!!!! EMD POWER!!!

  • i still don't understand how a car cannot keep ahead of a big truck. i'm a truck driver and i know there's no way you can go 90 or 100 like that, especially with corners.

  • @creamyfilling102 The car had an underpowered engine. The trucker knew this because he checked out the guys car when david mann went into the place to call his wife. So he knew he coudnt outrun him so easily. Plus, the truckers diesel was "souped up" according to the car driver.

  • @MichaelMyers87 not really ''the leaning tower of power'' (slant 6) could get that relatively light Valiant going pretty good as long as your radiator hoses were good!

  • I "thought" the original "HALLOWEEN" movie was the single scariest movie I'd ever seen, until I remembered a movie I'd seen six years earlier.....and this was it. Honestly, this movie scared the livin' crap out of me. I'm 47 now, and a licensed truck driver and when I see this movie, it STILL scares me. I'd love to see this movie re-done today. A bit of modernization, a slightly newer truck vs. something like a Malibu, and with Owen Wilson playing Dennis Weaver's role. That'd be fanrastic.

  • waiting me to hold my breath like dude ,f who you are,f what you think,f what you stand for cause when i go out im standing on my own two f what who got to say to whom a kiss a slug or a boom boom.

  • I'm sorry, but there's a couple things I have to point out:

The movie has no glitzy, glammy special effects. There is minimal character development as I understand the term, and is even leaner on plot.

And for all that, is still kicks the ass off 98% of the movies I've seen in my life.

  • @DarthBismarck yeah, it's just solid suspense.. Spielberg's always been good at keeping the audiences on the edge of their seats

  • @DarthBismarck Because it's Spielberg and he was imitating a master: Hitchcock. :)

  • @DarthBismarck Agree. It compensates for poor plotting with good camerawork though.

  • Wow! The truck is faster, and handles better than the car it's chasing.

  • @trisdoo Its because the truck driver is a very calm, skilled driver. Both in the movie and in real life.

  • @SuperPaintball27 Uh, I don't know what your smoking but, that truck happens to be about 10 to 15 tons unloaded. So think about that.

  • ok at least SOMEBODY has to run outa gas

  • PINCHE PELICULA ABURRIDA WAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • @ANTONIO97505 aburrida ¿? Si¿? entonces anda a ver tus peliculas de mostritos espaciales para que no te aburras y que la fuerza te acompañe

  • how can he go so fast hm let me see 4 eyes that truck is basiclly a huge 1 or 2 ton sled it gets most of its speed from slopes witch u have ben goin down

  • Love the engine sound from 3:00-3:02!

  • l0l the train is his fellow psycho buddy!

  • Spooky truck, that old thing is powerful...

  • @kalltvatten

It was only about 20 years old in this movie..

I looked it up on Google images and it came up with 1955 Peterbilt 280.

lol It is a really spooky truck.

  • @DDFJ1230 Yes, I did saw that too. I think it's a Peterbilt 281.

  • @DDFJ1230

    Maybe.

it might be because cars back then didn't change much.

  • Grebleips =speilberg

  • A useless fuckin bug killer on the side if the road!

  • Man David is a lousy driver.

  • "How can he go so fast?"....."because this truck has a DAMN Cummins 262 Inline 6 cylinder turbo charged engine with 262 bhp".

Next time buy the Hemi version from Plymouth ;)

  • @ganimed1976

    lolpe :)

  • @ganimed1976 ok and that telle me that with that motor the truck couldn't go that quick. Were not talking fast, rather how quick it is.

  • This guy cut out like 15 minutes of teh movie. the diner scene, part with the kids on the school bus....You suck.

  • If Dennis Weaver was using a Ford GT 4.0 (not the 40,000.00 Mustang GT, but the 250,000.00 Ford GT 4.0) the trucker would NEVER catch him.

  • @evilunixuser1 gt40 not gt 4.0

  • why the hell is the guy in the truck so desperate to kill him?

  • @MyWilliam1996 I remember this movie; it was excellent. Dennis Weaver passes the truck driver on the road but the trucker is never shown in the movie, as for trying to run him off the road the assumption is that he's just an angry nut job.

  • @MyWilliam1996 - maybe he remembers this is the bastard who made my daughter pregnant and took off

  • he needs to pull into pay n spray

  • @akaaccount Dunno it would work with that much heat.

  • Never a cop when you need one.

  • @locheelad2 You're too right mate XD

  • @Frankyboy1177 Yep, the old saying are the truest.

  • THe train has nothing to do with the truck. It blew the horn because the truck blew it's horn. Today's trains won't do that. The trucker didn't want the railroad to know that something was going on and that is was just another day on the road.

  • Damn that Peterbuilt is fast.

  • @samuraiofsamuraiedo That's because there is nothing in the manifest.

  • Greblieps Pest Control? LOL it!

  • @XOkie Spielberg spelled backwards. :):)

  • i love how southern pacific made a lot of apperiences in this movie

  • damn that petter built can MOVE!

  • Does someone have technical details about the peterbilt Truck ?

  • @hayastan5 The truck used mainly was a 1955 Peterbilt with a CAT sitting between the frame rails, thats the truck that gets creamed at the end of the film. There was a back-up truck that was made just incase the main actor puked a liner or something, its a 1960 Pete 351 with a NTC 350 small cam Cummins and a 5 + 3 set of boxes.

  • @eggy469 THX a lot...next quetsion: is this movie realistic ? could that truck be so fast ?

  • Great movie! Just one thing: All those license plates on the front of the truck...previous victims...?

  • @TraustiGeir Yes. Spielberg said they were a subtle hint that the truck driver's done this before.

  • na ezek a hétvégi mazsolák.előzik a 85 el haladó kamiont aztán 75 el folytatják.én is tanitottam 1-2 nek hogy nem szerencsés ez a megoldás.hehe kurva annyukat

  • I would love to drive this truck down the highway nowadays and just come up behind people and scare the shit out of them

  • Comment removed

  • what a scary lookin truck...yikes!!

  • what a beautiful day to get run off the road by a tractor trailer , hahaha beautiful BLUE sky

  • GORGEOUS PETERBILT!!!

    5**********

  • Mann portrays the typical inexperienced driver, who rarely goes beyond speed limits and doesn't know very well the limits of his car.

Up to 70% of drivers are like that, which is good because they don't take risks for fun(like crazy street racers), but puts them in risk when they actually need to drive in an extreme situation.

I've got some skills, but do consider myself an ordinary driver. However, in such a situation like that, the VALIANT would have become a CORVETTE. I'd run like hell!

  • petes are the bset truck ever made!

  • Kenworth all the way

  • "How can he go so fast!!??"

    HAHA lol, physics.

He has a big, heavy truck with a ton of power, and probably a full trailer of F L A M M A B L E which helps with stability.

You (David Mann) have a small lightweight car with almost no power.

That's how. Let the show go on! MUHAHA

  • if you think about it if he is full of flammable liquid the liquid will be splashing back and forwards so it could case a rollover if he takes corners. i hope im right haha

  • @kwbadge it empty or it would have rolled over

  • @Prancingwolf7 it empty

  • why does that pete look so damn scary and intimidating

  • @Tr3ySw4g Because It's rusty, old, has a railroad rail bumper, It carries flammable material and the lights look like murderous eyes. I WANT THAT TRUCK!!!

  • @Tr3ySw4g It never has to me, for some reason. I don't know why. LOL

  • I wonder if this inspired other road terror movies, The Hitcher, Zabriski point, Ron Howard even.....

  • mad max also

  • trucks can go fast too

  • It doesen't matter if the car is faster if the driver doesen't know how to drive fast. David Mann has never gone above 70 in his entire life. He doesen't know how to drive at 90 plus over long distances plus that old car has no power steering and is just a basic Valiant model. That's why he can't stay ahead of the truck except on the grade.

  • That truck is freaking scary the camera crew must of been terrified filming the truck because i know i would be lol

  • A killer film. A simple but great story, fantasticly shot, loaded with creepiness, tension and suspense. Spielberg came right out of the gate knowing what the hell he was doing, with limited time and budget. They spend millions upon millions now in Hollywood and they couldn't make this now worth a shit - it would be all CGI crap, shit acting, shit script, and none of the above. .

Oh, at 1:56 check out the name of the pest control company on the car - then reverse it.

  • HAHA thats fuckin great!

  • @MisterMasterShafter

    Well said.

  • Love this classic flick. I don't spend money on dvd collections like my friends. I'll just buy the ones that really impact. I own this one :-)

  • Anybody know where this was filmed?

  • Alton California. The outer dessert parts of California.

  • I meant Acton California.

  • Acton California

  • you need some skill to drive a truck like that...respect

  • 胃が痛くなるな

  • This trucker must be a railfan. He blows the horn at every train he sees.

  • Love that truck. It is gorgeous!!

  • that truck`s got more history than Roma

  • love that truck

  • What a cool movie ... a true classic 10/10! :D

  • I like this its great. Thanks.

  • my fave scean 3:40

  • There it is again - the train and the truck 'talking' to each other - honking their hornsat each other.

I like to think the train is saying - "Go get him!"

  • @StreathamG It's crazy! I was thinking the train was saying more on the lines of "He's allll yours, brother. Flatten his ass!"

  • @StreathamG Maybe it's his damn brother or something, who does something similar in the trains!!!! LOL

  • I love Dennis Weaver.

  • why didnt he just scream HELP to the officer?

  • cos he wasnt police, he was anti vermin

  • They don't make films like they used to. Fucking legendary

  • ...Wheres the part with the elderly couple in the car? :|

    FAIL

  • INDEED

  • i think with the remastering they removed it, i have an original 1985 copy of this movie on VHS with that scene as well as the original mono sountrack.

  • It got put back later. The first time I saw the movie was in high school, in I think late 2000 or early 2001. It was VHS print from the early 1990s, I think. It had all the forementioned footage missing from this upload.

  • too bad he didn't have a cell phone

  • I dount he'd have coverage out there, anyway. :P They're in the middle of nowhere.

  • rusty old trucks you never trust ever

  • This is really good film making in this movie. It's like they're personifying the truck to make it look like a monster.

  • If he had a Chevy Corvette, he would have smoked that trucker. I've seen a C3 Corvette before and the speedometer went up to 160.

  • 4:13 i like how he takes a chunk out of the last post but leaves it standing. SKILL

  • Diesal Engine are actually more powerful and have more compression than any gasoline engine. Believe or not they get batter gas mileage than gasoline engines. Even if David where to be driving a Barracuda or Roadrunner he would still have a tuff time avoiding the trucker.

  • but the truck was hauling a very large tanker (probably full of gas or something), which would weigh a ton

  • I'm betting the trailer tank was either empty, or close to empty.

  • Theshark15z is right about the diesels making more power, but commercial big rigs are also geared lower (for pulling heavy loads) and that limits the top speed. Which is why a better performing car would outrun the Pete, provided this guy isn't driving. He appears to have difficulty keeping his car 'tween the ditches!

  • i just realized something. this movie is very similar to Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window." So much of the movie is Dennis Weaver seeing something, and his face reacts, just as Jimmy Stewart did in Rear Window. yet another comparison between this classic and one of Hitchcock's!

  • you can't beat me on the grade..

YOU CAN'T BEAT ME ON THE GRADE!!!!

    aaahaha!! gooo dude!

p.s.- i am now officially terrified of huge trucks!

  • that lorry is so ugly its beautiful. what id do to have a woman like that

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I live about a hundred feet away from the part at 1:24 :OO!!

  • born on a mountain, raised in a cave, truckin and fuckin are what I crave

  • well it's about time charlie!!

  • i dont think this whole movie last the official duration (90 min.) this only has 55 min.

does anyone has the complete version??

  • can't say I have the complete version, but this was CUT - never showed the diner scene - that was CLASSIC

  • Some poor gas station is still waiting for its load of ethel gasoline...too bad they didnt have GPS in '71'. They would see this trucker took the scenic route.

  • I knew I'd seen the name Carey Loftin before. He did the stunt driving with Steve McQueen in Bullitt. Just proves what an incredible driver he was!

  • yeah driving an old heavy truck at those speed through corners is for true pros

he didn't drive the Plymouth Valiant though, that was another stunt driver

  • i've already done that and i am no pro

  • kudos to you then

I've just sat in an van which a friend of mine was driving through corners way too fast. It was like it was going to tip over in most sharp turns. A high centre of gravity means shitty cornering... so for a very heavy truck...

  • i miss trucking im going back in some months

  • LOL, saying that while watching a movie were a guy is getting attacked by a trucker.

  • I think the truck CAN beat him on the grade. He has a huge motor, so it goes faster than 85mph, if the governor is removed.

  • not all trucks have govs, and grades are a real bitch to climb unless you got a nice straight running start.

  • grades are a real bitch lol

  • thats why the Cajon Pass has seen so many Runaway Trains,to heavy going up then going down they pick up speed and can't be stopped cuz of gravity

  • For some reason out of all those runaway trains none of them were more important than the SP 7551 East on May 12, 1989. Why? it seems to be the only runaway train with the most coverage. They even got a show "seconds from disaster" or "Mayday, Runaway Train"

  • cuz it derailed where people were

  • The guy who played the driver was said to be Hollywood's best stunt driving man. He died in 1997.

  • Also, two trucks were used in filming. The one that didn't go over the cliff is now owned by an enthusiast and is still driven occasionally.

  • most memorable line from the film... "You can't beat me on the grade! You can't beat me on the grade!"
