  • thanks for this!

  • This movie made me believe in the Holy God even more...the devil will show himself quick...but God is all around us..only believers can see him ! non believers can only see evil, be scared and go down............

  • I am young and this movie is nothing to me, just cheesy effects

  • @terrineil i bet you masturbate to michael bay

  • @terrineil i bet you fap to michael bay

  • An excellent book is "Possessed" by Thomas Allen. It's the non-fiction account of the exorcism that "The Exorcist" is based on.

  • I vividly remember going to The Exorcist when it came out. Went with friends and we were skeptical that it would really scare us. WRONGO! Truly frightening...the scenes of the demon tormenting Father Karras about his mother bothered me much more than the pea soup. Had to sleep with a light on for quite a while after...

  • Great Movie and great Documentary, just wish I could hear all of this. Looks very interesting. One of the most disturbing scenes actually for me, was the part where before she's totally overtaken by the Devil, she makes her way to the Dining room or Living room where there are guests over at her house and she starts dripping. Great peice of work the crew did in assemlying this type of movie. Great movie.

  • I think when says there been deaths on seen do you ever wonder are talking bull crap

  • I had to balls up in my teens to watch the full uncensored movie. Yes, for years The Exorcist was on regular TV but heavily censored, so for me to watch the real thing was a big deal. Thanks to Friedkin and Blatty for all the messed up nightmares for years to come but also for turning me into a horror buff/writer!

  • The best horror movie ever! Scares the shit out of me too to this day! I was born in 72. I first watched it in 1978. ....and I remember.

  • The only movie that giv#s me creeps. But can SOMEONE PLEASEEE tell me why the demon possess hr and acts very aggresi ve and sexual in the movie? Would help alot

  • @irmamartinezlautnerr back in times people found that sexual or lust where sins made from the devil..you should understand the aggressive part but im just guessing thats what it was..

  • That many deaths associated with a movie, and not stunt related..... Hmmmm you guys were definitely messing where you should not have been messing.

  • @MrsWLeach There were several deaths within a short period of time at a job i worked at about ten years ago....were we messing around where we shouldnt have been? It was a lighting fixture manufacturing company....I think, sometimes, life just happens.

  • @Danuch113ny There's that, too.

  • Anyone interested in the deeper and creepier dimensions of this film, check out a website by a guy named Rob Ager. His analysis goes into even darker territory. His theory on the real reasons for all the horrible "demonic" manifestations is a real eye opener. There's more to the story than meets the eye.

  • daaaammmmmnnnnnnn,,,.,. fucking 9 people died during this film??

  • @jlcelrey101 yea- when you think of how many people who worked on this film, and the time they spend capturing it, it isn't really that scary

  • @OutfittersOfArt the film being scary is another point but, fucking 9 people died in the making of this film... I've never heard of anything like it... probably the only movie to have such casualties

  • Thank mark kermode for this! He's the one who organized it!

  • What does the first shot say? Something like "the year of 2008"?

  • The're horror movies that make you scared for as long as you are watching them and then you forget them, and the're horror movies that you watch them once and they haunt you for your life. The exorcist is the queen of the second kind of these movies.

  • great horror movie. and terrific story

  • Classic.

  • The greatest horror film ever made

  • FUCK MEAH, FUCK MEAH!

  • :o People dying on set! That's exactly when I would've quit lol.

  • I love how the "old priest" looks like he did in the movie now cuz back then he was younger

  • this movie scres tap otof me, but after watching these videos help me get over my fear, its a way for me to truly understand how fake they are

  • This movie scared the crap out of me when I was 14, I still haven't seen it since then, so I like to see how this movie was made to make it less frightening lol.

  • Ellen Burstyn, one of the greatest actresses of our time explaining all the deaths that happened on the set during the filming is so blase about the whole thing..lol

  • with all that happened in the movie, fkd up how linda blairs back was severly injured

  • Jason MIler has a wonderful voice...

  • the documentary is more scarier than the actual movie

  • @hunterkiller1440 Yes it is! I have his autobiography! Just like the real story of Emily Rose (Anneliese Michel) is waaaaay scarier than the movie (that movie wasn't all that scary)

  • I've caught wind they are remaking it ... I fucking hope not!! no one has original ideas anymore! Look at paranormal activity (u either love it or hate it) audiences really loved the film and I'm convinced it's because it was one of the more original horror movies of its time. lets face it most horror movies have been remakes in the last 5 years ... and when audiences get something different it thrives. I love the exorcist and I will be truly dissapointed if they re do it!

  • @Trueghostgirl the worst part is that they would use CGI special effects. The power of satin wouldn't be frightening if it's artificial CGI

  • Wow Ellen Burstyn looks fantastic for her age!!

  • I live right near the famous steps and the apartments were they filmed The Exorcist in Georgetown! I feel blessed to live so close to where they filmed the Greatest Horror Film of All Time!

  • @11poketrainer wow. thats cool you live close to it. awsome!!!!

  • "Max von Sydow's brother died."

Max von Sydow never had a brother.

  • Hahaha I love the idea that ghosts are haunting the set of The Exorcist to prevent the film from being made. "Ooooh don't reveal our secretly ghostly agenda ooooooooh"

  • @Nicodemus1 haha. Nothing like propaganda to add promotion to a movie like this

  • The Young, um Blaaaaackkk Watchman.

  • this movie still scares the hell out of me and I still love watching it

  • @113kimber the face scares the shit outta me

  • All superstition. Why didn't the cast and crew die if it was some force trying to stop the film? It's all so stupid.

  • the set caught on fire when no one was there!?!? fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu......

  • at 6;20 when ellen mentions the dead people she mentions a night watch men, and that he is black, i found that funny. why is it important?

  • @kyleketchemonia ha i wondered that too O.o

  • @kyleketchemonia it's funny because the color of his skin is absolutely irrelevant.Lol why not just say "a night watchman died?"Lol she adds the 'black' part because she's coming from an era where 'black' is the other than; in fact, black would be considered the utter and complete 'other than.' this mentality is still around today, should you over hear a person say "yeah, she was cute, for a 'black' girl."Lol it's just some old social baggage that we carry with us. kinda funny, huh?Lol

  • @BigOldMrKnish When a criminal or a diseased person

is described on the radio or T.V. news, they mention his/her

race or color. Alright, she was a little descriptive about the

night watchman, so what's your beef? Being black or white

is not a crime, and is not a crime when someone describe

you as a black man or woman if you're black. Why do

you guys have to take offense every time a white person

describes a black guy!!! This victim mentality of yours

    is really getting overrated.

  • @VincentL7 for one, you misinterpreted everything i said; and two, i am not black, so i give to figs for what blacks may take offense to. i was just explaining a social phenomenon to someone on here. look, the lady wasn't asked to give a description about an alleged robber where skin color would be a relevant point to make. she just added "black" to guard because she's coming from an era where black has always been considered the "OTHER THAN," hence, worthy of note. she wasn't being...

  • @VincentL7 ...negative, but at the same time, adding "black" to guard is irrelevant- he's just a guard.

but i agree with you, i absolutely despise the victim mentality of blacks. a lot of them think the world owes them something and they walk around with this massive attitude of entitlement, and it's sickening. we're all victims of history, get over it already... be cool. knish

  • Max von Sydow is awesome. These myths surrounding the film are just silly.

  • 1:45 = ":O"

    :D

  • @dramaticdiva23 That's very true but for me, I'll remember Linda Blair as the little girl with the ability to play Regan in that movie lol what an amazing actress

  • They should make a doc about part 2 and what a fiasco that was, now that would be interesting.

  • what a great documentary. really makes you think about the lengths that filmmakers would go to back before everyone just relied on CGI to tell a story.

  • perhaps the "demons" tried to stop the film in fear of making people god fearing

  • @ravenharlow

Don't let him scare you. 9 people died because it took 5 times longer to film The Exorcist than the average film. Add to that the fact that the crew was twice as large as an average film crew owing to the special effects and you have a big window of time for a large amount of people to experience the death of a loved one, associate or their own.

I've had a co-worker die on every film that I've worked excepting 2, does that mean that every other film that I've worked was cursed?

  • @thegirl44 My God! Is your name Dexter by any chance?

  • dramaticdiva23 is TOTALLY right

  • A fire broke loose and nine people died....i wonder how many number two will kill.

  • @hacksatlifedotcom

No one died in the fire, it happened on a weekend when no one was on set. And "number two" has already been made with no crazy things happening.

I would seriously be worried about your comprehension skills if you listened to all of that and somehow came up with the idea that the nine people who died died in the fire. Maybe you should mention to your parents that you're having a problem understanding the information being given to you? I'm not being mean, I'm concerned.

  • I think that the aim of horror movies that touch on religious themes is to get people who may be weak agnostics to embrace religious ideas of there being demonic powers which only the prestigious priests of the Catholic church the same criminal church that burned native indians in Brazil at the stake can deal with.

  • @Mayer200

I think that horror movies that touch on religious themes get made because writers with an interest in the subject matter write a script. It would be one hell of a conspiracy otherwise.

  • The curse of the actors dieing is bullshit because then every ghost/demon film would be cursed... =/

  • father dyer is an actual father! "stealing is a sin"

  • @xtrmsprts

He wasn't stealing, he can tell your future by reading the creases in your shoes :).

Witchcraft, I tells ya, it's witchcraft and voo doo and gris gris all rolled into one.

  • @thegirl44 im so drunk as well

  • @xtrmsprts

    That'll do it :).

  • i dont get scared easily..but this film terrifies me and i never even saw it! just pictures and clips.

  • @supasta3 dude, i was the same as you for so long... just watch it, its really not that bad haha

  • @supasta3 I have seen it. So I'm even more terrified!

  • Perhaps I can provide an explanation of why those nine people died. When The Exorcist was made, the people who made the film engaged themselves in what is called divinity (a demonic practice of interacting with the dead). God offenders by death in the Old Testament. When you mess with the devil without God's protection, people can die. Don't take this likely: a person can be demonically possessed and can be killed if not careful. Don't play with God: He's not playing with you.

  • @obsgia

The God that I know is smart enough to tell the difference between people actually engaging the other side and people who are just telling a story about it.

Nine people died because the filming ran 15 months with a larger than ordinary crew. That is why nine people died.

  • did they died?

  • The theory a review I read present a case saying the 'possesion' was the girl reacting to being abused, by the film director. There are clues to that being a subliminal theme in the film are everywhere. Just before the 'spider walk', he is seen going upstairs. The sexual language of the girl we hear later is another hint. Any abuse is a violent act, hense the little girl comes out with very agressive sexual language. I think that is an interesting theory. Look up Robags film reviews.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff

That's a pretty fucked up theory considering that the bedroom set wasn't even in the house nor was Billy Friedkin ever on set alone with Linda Blair (Her MOTHER was there) as per union rules.

And the "sexual language" that we hear later in the film was written in the book by William Peter Blatty YEARS before it was uttered by Mercedes McCambridge, the voice actress who said the lines.

I think that Robags is projecting what he likes to do to little girls onto this film.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff

I thought the first time that I read this that "the director" implied Billy Friedkin, not Burke, the director character. I caught it when I watched Robag's review.

Yes, in the book it's implied that Burke may have been acting inappropriately toward Regan but that sub-plot, along with the housekeeper's daughter being a heroin addict, was cut for time reasons.

I thought that it was clear that Burke ended up at the bottom of the stairs because he was a kiddie fiddler?

  • @thegirl44 Is Burke the priest? I couldn't tell you about that. I'm not a massive Freidkin fan. I think the Shining is a creepier film and if I want 'horror' I'll read the 'Celebrty' magazines!! LoL

  • I agree with the lady in the vid. "why are they reacting, it's a movie"

it doesn't affect me, these kind of movies d:

  • this movie is creepy but Martyrs is the most evil , scary and down beat movie i have ever seen. it makes Exorcist look sweet natured

  • this is by far one of the scariest movie alive..its stilll scares me to death......

  • Kermode is a legend

  • the fact that they didnt rely on computers for effects made the effects more believable

  • I remember seeing this at a drive-in,at age 7.Scared the SH*T out of me,and I loved

    it.I've been a horror nut ever since.THANX DAD!(R.I.P)

  • @ariespow I watched this on Hbo with my dad about 30 yrs ago.My mom woulda never let That go down, but Dad let me watch anything with him.Today I do the same stuff with my kids.Hope we make some good memories.

  • Ellen Burstyn's the best, she seems so sweet.

  • Great Film,

And on a religious side note: It amazes me how alot of protestant churches constantly berate and spit on the catholic church, but when demonic or supernatural stuff starts kicking off they run right back to the Catholics for help. Amazing.

BUT, getting back on track, great film for it's time, and a great job tackling a tough subject to portray on screen.

  • @demboys18

The protestants don't have the rites the Catholics do (Birth, Death, Marriage, Exorcism etc.) so they, technically, have no way to deal with possession. Kinda explains the Salem Witch Trails, they had no theological way of helping the women so they killed them. Mind you, it'd be insane to say that the Spanish Inquisitions were any better. Check out the movie "The Devils" with Oliver Reed for a great example of how efficient those methods of dealing with the demonic were.

  • @thegirl44 Ok, I'll have a look.

  • its not even that scary pussys

  • The fire on the Exorcist set was blatantly caused by sabotage

  • I don't quite get the fact that they make this grand introduction of bringing in this priest, only to have him die a rather unremarkable death compared to the young priest who actually took on the demon; which was also an entirely different method than the proclaimed priest administered.

  • @gplus46

In the book Father Merrick and the demon have a history. It isn't addressed well in the film or in the sequels.

  • LINDA BLAIR, WE LOVE YOU AND NOW YOU ARE EVEN HOTTER!

  • Very interesting info. Stuff I didn't know about. Thanx for posting

  • "today they can make you believe the titanic is sinking"

    -It didn't sink??? lol

  • the mom sounds like she's still scared

  • this film is a pure horror work of art

  • max von sydow sounds like christopher lee

  • Linda Blair's attractive.

  • can offer me millions of dollars n i still wudn't wanna be in a movie like this

  • @dramaticdiva23 I agree. There is so much more to Linda than this role.

  • 1 dislike for this video. I think some people dislike videos just to be a hater.

  • "We Had a couple of unfortunate deaths..."

"We had 9 deaths!" Whoever edited this documentary has the dryest sense of humour ever

  • they should have never made that damn film ........look how many people died its a sign tard fucks

  • It is such a good movie.

I wouldn't say the best "horror" movie but defenitly one of them :)

  • YIKES!!!

  • " The Exorcist " and " Nosferatu " by F. W. Murnau are the most artistic horror movies ever made - in my opinion

  • this is the heavily edited U.S. version of the original BBC documentary - watch whywhyzee82's upload instead.

  • the people who dislike this shitted their pants

  • My mom saw this when it came out and loved it. She ended up going back the same week twice. Her sister almost fainted and went straight to church after; that's funny. Its still a great movie. The best horror and masterful acting. There is nothing better, even today.

  • i'm not sure about this, but my dad told me that the publicists for this movie hired people to act as paramedics and hang out around the theatres and they also hired people to pretend to faint and stuff in the cinema.

but i can totally understand why this movie is so scary... i watched a small clip from it when i was about 11 and i couldn't sleep properly for ages. :L

  • This is a clear example of a Classic horror movie, I wish they made horror movies with this kind of reaction! horror movie now days are filled with blood and boobs!!

  • @TheChocolateCheese tru dat!

  • my cousin loves this freakinn movie lmao i think it's disturbing but it wasn't that serious for people to be actinn that hyped, people were fallinn out throwinn up lmao like the "hell" ??? haha

  • One of the most amazing horror movies ever made! No horror movie will ever come close to this or even compare! It took me almost 3 days to finish this movie lol.

  • @Thecrazyone96 You know, alot of people believe is is a horror. Yes, it is a horror, but it is more drama than horror, it has been classified as a drama horror. But yes, it is a very good movie

  • Thank you very much for sharing these ;)

  • 9 people died.... holy shit!!

  • @placebosky i chalk it up to the production was long and there were accidents

  • @placebosky

Over 15 months and some of the deaths were vaugely related (Most movie shoots only last 3 months). Sets burn down, when I worked on "From Dusk Til' Dawn" we had a set burn, the cause was never found, either.

These things happen when you have a lot of people associated with one thing. Billy Friedkin was a genius in selling these occurences to the press as though there were something ominous about them. He also managed to freak everyone on set out, except for Max Von Sydow.

  • @placebosky yeh, well done :D

  • @placebosky That is pretty creepy! Hopefully it's just a coincidence! Regardless, I still would never mess around with any of this.

  • scariest movie ever.

  • @djallen16 not really

  • LINDA WAS SO HOT IN 73 WITH 13 YEARS OLD,AND STILL BEATIFULL AND HOT

  • @djkb1987 sge's beautiful!!!

  • There will never be a movie this scary, horrifying, surreal. It was just crazy. No horror movie has touched this.

  • this movie was great!!! im 13 and i didnt get scared, but some scenes were freaky but i didnt get scared. If linda blair didnt look like she did in the movie then i wouldnt b scared at all. But ppl back then werent ready for a movie like this so thats why they were scared. My cousins watched this movie at 6 and the other 4 and they laughed at it and at some parts i laughed soooo hard!!! but it was a great movie but i just wasnt scared but i just wasnt i guess knowing its all fake ruins it.

  • @vanessahgirl1 You think that you're very brave saying that you weren't scared at all?

  • @julii51

i know i'm brave im not scared of pretty much anything....except bugs and killers =) lol but other then that i just really liked the movie and its not really that scary it was to the people back then but i guess since i saw worse....

  • blatty, william, willy you said:''their reaction, whether it was for good or bad that doesn't,matter''believe me,if one morning blatty woke up and he realized someone ripped his arms and sewed them on his back, then he wouldn't be that cool,he would look like a spider

    stop>>

  • too many films rely on special effects these days. this film was just flat out creepy, and it's so simple and basic. it's really great.

  • does 3:35 look wrong to anyone else...

  • @razzamellon guilty as charged - lol

  • I loved this movie. I thought It was great, but It didn't really bother me. Maybe my mind's already corrupted xD

  • absolutly loved this movie and till today i still cant watch it alone!!

  • Freidkin is an excellent director, but all the interviews and such I've seen him in, he seems really really pretentious and annoying.

  • movie=creepy & based on a true story

  • @ManweArcadio you're fucking retarded.....

  • @RevillutionDotCom Awwwwww I gave you a boo boo. Man up or GTFO.

  • It's the most horrifying movie ever made. Might not be so scary to some now however you have to remember that in 1973 nobody was ready for a movie like this.

  • I remember watching this film when i was 7....to this day i regard it as the best Horror film of all time, its the grand daddy of them all, since then nothing has scared me. (Movie wise)

  • i don't think this movie was so great

  • I'm 14 and I watched this movie a few weeks ago...

I couldn't sleep all night long so I watched The King Of Queens on my Ipod :P

This is seriously the most scary movie ever made...

  • to tell you truth, i found this movie to be very funny. Such dialogs you find here is funnier than comedies like when she is saying "lick me! lick me!" or "stick your cock up her ass your worthless cocksucker!" or when she is putting the crucifix in her vagina and make her mother to lick her bloody, torn vagina.

  • @theshitaIker WTF?!

  • @theshitaIker true true haha ;) but what is funny in a film, would be frickin terrifying in person lol

  • @lizzie123101 I dont think The Shining was scary at all, just bizarre and some what disturbing. Good movie though.

  • I love that movie but everytime I want to watch it I don't do it because it still disturbs me so much. I watched it I was 12 and now I am 27, I watched dozens of horror movies and I must tell it is the only one that deserve to be called an "horror movie".

  • @SkaramandraX yeah, I own the film and cannot watch it, but it is one of my favorite movies. I think what attracts me to it is no movie has ever had this kind of effect on me. This is the only movie I can say I love but can't watch often. I can barely watch this documentary lol.

  • this movie scared me so bad but i love it!!! they need more movies like this! i think she has the scariest face of all time. and this is the best MOVIE OF ALL TIME!

  • It seems today that hollywood movies do not have the same kind of mind fucking abilities that these movies had back in the day. It seems today that good horror movies are low budget and or independent.

  • I saw this movie last summer and could not finisg it so i juts waited till the next day

  • Merrin STILL LIVES!!!!! OMG I wasn'ts expecting THAT

  • probably one of the best films ever made, but to me not the scariest. i watched this when i was 12 and it didn't bother me at all. saying that i have been watching horror films for years, since i watched the shining when i was 10. but whether you think this film is scary or not, it is definitely groundbreaking; the story, special effects, cinematography... all brilliant! changed cinema for ever! :)

  • this scared the SHIT out of me when i was 12 ..... good times

  • "Let the boy stay overnight in my house"

    oh shitttttttt!!!!
