God, I love Bruce. I've seen him only once in concert, but as soon as humanly possible, I'm going again. That night pretty much cemented the unflappable notion that I physically NEED to be a professional musician in my soul. It was amazing. If you haven't seen him live yet...you really must. It's relatively life-changing!

Story behind the song? The version I heard is he was dining with a woman, possibly Aimee Mann and she asked what he had in his backpack, he said rope and other stuff for the end of the world. She laughed and said if it was the end of the world, she would only be drinking champagne with the one she loved.

@slingshot657 It was released in 99, so was after '96.....I remember hearing it for the first time when I had just moved into a little town just south of the Canadian border in preparation for Y2K....it was the first thing I heard on the local radio station as I was unpacking, Sept '99......one of my favorites!

Seen Cockburn live at least 10 times. He makes one guitar sound like two. A lyrical and musicial genius. Relevant for the times. No one does it better...he challenges my perspectives
