What's with this ridiculous sprinters vs marathon runners arguing? They are two different sports that require different strengths. It's like saying apples are better than oranges.
Let's put it this way. What does a world-class 1500m runner do when he can no longer fast enough to compete in the 1500m? He is forced to go longer and compete in the 5000m. When he's too slow to comete in the 5000m? He goes even longer and competes in the 10,000m. This is why it is common to have a champion triathalete or ultrarunner who is in his mid/late 30's or even his early 40's. However, you will almost NEVER see a world-class 1500m who is in his late 30's.
Only slow people run long distance. Long distance runners are really poor sprinters, and their vertical jump is really poor. They are usually very weak as well. They can't run fast and they can't jump high. This would make them really poor at almost all sports; therefore, they only have one other option - run long.
@mrkitanai1 "Real athletes run, others just play games." - T. Alan Armstrong. Judging by your opinion on runners, long distance runners in particular, you must play games. You have no idea what it takes to be a runner.
@mrkitanai1 What qualifies Albert Einstein to know anything about "real" athletes? And I could say the same thing about sprinters, they can't run far so their only option is to run fast and short. But i'm not going to make that argument, I would however like to see a sprinter run an ultra-marathon, perhaps the Leadville 100? Then we can see who the real athlete is.
@QCSkateMedia Whether you want to admit it or not, humans admire and glorify STRENGTH, POWER, AND EXPLOSIVENESS! Our favorite sports are those that require these attibutes. If you ask the average sports fan, "Who won the last Olympic Marathon?" I'll guarantee you that most won't know the answer. But if you ask, "Who won the last Olympic 100m?" Many will know it was Usain Bolt. No one cares about marathons and triathalons. We care about football, basketball, MMA, etc.. All POWER sports!

@mrkitanai1 Difference though is that ultra runners do it for self satisfaction, not to show off. ^^

@QCSkateMedia I'm with mrkitani1 on this one. If you can't run at least a sub 15:00 5k, you probably have a small penis.

@qbw41 That's what i've been trying to say all along, finally someone gets it.

@qbw41 a fifteen min 5k is rapid! The quickest guys at most sprint triathlons only do 17mins fcs!
