To all foreigners going to Sweden: Relax. We are nice in Sweden, But some people has trouble opening up in the beginning of getting to know a new person. It gets better with time. But I think that if you did the same thing a summer day in Stockholm in a crowded place, I think you would drown in hugs! Especially if there were lots of young people nearby.

This is nice to see, and no doubt cheers you up, but I also think it is rather superficial hugging strangers. This is something most Northern Europeans wouldn't do. It has nothing to do with unfriendliness, but you give the people who matter to you all the hugs! I'm a mixture of Norwegian and English and neither one is comfortable hugging strangers unfortunately. Still, spread the happiness!

I have Norwegian ancestry and have been trying to find living relatives in Norway. I have the same damn last name as 100 Norwegians and only about 5% of them have even bothered to respond to me. I lived in next to the mediterranean sea for 7 months and it was a big difference.

As a Norwegian living in Oslo, I also feel this way. It seems as if Scandinavians really has a much more colder atmosphere than many other countries. It's as if we're so afraid of getting close to other people :( People needs to open up a lot more and actually see colours everyday ! Life is not bleak, life is happiness! Downsides are here to make us feel alive and make us stronger ! Hug and love !

living in Göteborg for a year now (originally from California) i can safely say that the people involved in this have some major balls .. interaction with strangers without alcohol involved is quite taboo .. i think if more people got out there and promoted some human interaction maybe there wouldnt be so much random violence or depression on a day to day basis!
