@tommybashop Very nice sword my friend although it seems to big unless it's just for hanging on a wall. I also have a very nice broadsword handmade by my friend. Only thing is I would love the short leather sheath how did you make it cheers.
@Itshardtochoosel it is very big but i dont have much trouble using it. i spent alot of time getting the balance right, which is why the counterweight on the end of the handle is so big. as for the sheath, its just 2 pieces of 1/8 inch thick leather rope stiched on the sides and slid on. to get it to stay on, i soaked it with water the used a heat gun to shrink it tight.
@snickers763 yeah, i looked into a few replicas and they just were not beefy enough so i made this. stainless is not a good metal for swords since it is brittle. it will usually break with a hard impact
@tommybashop stailess is very brittle i always hear people saying stainless is mild steel thats not heat treated stailess is an alloy of a little steel a little copper and mostly nickel plus most stainless steel swords have a rat tail tang
@snickers763 stainless is mainly a high carbon steel alloy with a percentage of chromium in it to prevent corrosion. nickel and copper would be found in bronze, not stainless as they have very corrosive properties.
It looks very nice, but aren't swords usually cut & folded & tempered to be useful in combat? Unless I am missing something, yours would have a slightly different internal structure.
@Tomazimon well, folded swords were done by the japanese because they had poor quality steel and folding made the steel stronger. and keep in mind, that was 400 years ago. kinda like the layers of plywood. however, with the material i used, there was no need to change it.
@caledoniankilt seen a few where they made half assed attempts so i made this one to see if i could do better. i sold the sword and now i want it back.
Impressive. Not exactly a claymore though,. more of a great sword. Claymore was a distinction with upturned, v shaped hilts that sort of popped into scotland at around 1400... though "great swords" like this one still existed prior.
@0hypnotoad0 acutally the claymore was any scottish sword over 50 inches. they pretty ones you see today are just not accurate for the period. since ths scottish didnt have the time or money to use brass or to make them attractive. they were made that big to take out english riders since the scotts didnt have horses when the fought the english for independence. not everythingb you see on the tv is true
@kalikoutas you can buy this one if you like. havent had time to make more. been busy with school. message me and let me know where you are in america so i can figure out a way to get it to ya.
@tommybashop m8 unfortunately im not located in america but im in Greece...I will afford the money for transportation but idnt know how this can b done....and what about its price? :D
@kalikoutas Dude unfortunately im not located in america :( .But of course if u could find a way to send me on Greece i will afford the money for the transportation...How much would cost to me the swords price ?
How did you construct the handle? Is the blade and tang one solid piece? Or are the blade and tang two separate pieces that have been welded together? I only ask because you said you welded the hilt on. Beautiful looking sword btw.

@Tomazimon They also have different qualities of steel at different places, i.e more rigid steel at the edges, softeri n the centre to allow bending

@lordpoee the tang and blade are one continuous piece of steel. the hilt is built around it
