  • Have to answer some precious questions posted. This is a swedish reloadable AT-weapon. The US has bought millions of them and so have the rest of the world. In the Swedish Army our officers said that you can knock out Abrams tanks with them and with a bit of luck a Leo 2. Russian tanks are harder because of their reactive armour, but if you hit the same place twice a t-90's turret will probably fly away. You can also demoralise enemies by firing at buildings and create an immense air-pressure.

  • "Skud kommer" means firing. ^^

  • obviously you're not a golfer, or you would realize it's a Big Lebowski quote

  • Lol?

  • they're swedish not germans

  • They are DANISH!!!

"Skud kommer" is a danish military order

  • Yay the Charlie G... Great Gat that one, it was a fucker to put the firing pin back in though.

  • Damn, kool reload....

  • I did this for 10 months in the Swedish army, great weapon. Requirments in sweden is 6 rounds in target (200meter) in less than 1 min... Keep practice guys :-)

  • That would require six targets in one minute as well... :P

  • light1, tanks5.

  • You removed the finns comment about how good that is too do, and you wrote that comment to make the Swedes look bad. Typical fucking dane. What do you have against Sweden?

  • Absolutely nothing. My clan lord is Swedish and I don't sink to generalization. Whatever comment you say is removed exists only in your head. I have tampered with nothing.

  • Haha yeah i think mixed up the threads :s sry

  • ^^ Apology accepted.

  • Is this pure breach load..? I can't see the weapon too well. And is there any kin with the old "gustav" rail road car mounted gun the Germans had..?

  • Pure breech loaded. I doubt it was much like the railroad gun since recoilless weapons are much less powerful.

  • that´s the danish army(they speek danish)

  • lol wut?

  • What is MBT-LAW? Can one man parachute with and carry 6 of them for 30 miles as I have with the Gustav rounds? Does it fire: illumination, smoke, HE, HEDP? I'm probably just partial to the goose because I spent 3 years with it, but I havn't seen a better weapon in it's class. The only parachutable thing better is the Javelin but that is a different level of weaponry.

  • This Gustav is much better than an RPG, and vastly superior to an AT-4 or LAW. I've fired all of these. and the Gustav is super accurate and high quality. The other stuff is disposable junk by comparison. Many different rounds make this a versitile tool for use against bunkers, tanks or troops in the open.

  • You, good sir, do NOT know the relief of dumping some heavy shit you just used. Carl Gustav, like RPG-7, is useful and multipurpose, yes, but AT4 is disposable, the RPG-7 is easily obtainable and cheap, and MBT-LAW surpasses CG in all aspects other than range (only 600 meters) AND it's disposable. What you fail to understand about "disposable junk" is that "disposable" = YAY for the soldier who carries it around.

  • What makes you think I don't know the relief of dumping a load on the objective? Do you suppose I was in the cubscouts? Every soldier who has fired a weapon loves a lighter walk home, but I've seen the at-4 and RPG rounds BOUNCE off hard targets on several occasions. The goose will not let you down like that.

  • MBT-LAW is the replacement for AT4 (more expensive though) that incorporates the confined space firing capability of the CSHP and the top attack HEAT of the Bill missile (both older Bofors weapons). It flies over the target and fired an HEAT vertically down the target to penetrate the armor of all common modern tanks. The Brits use as a standard LAW today.

  • As for the AT4 and CG HEAT grenade comparrison, please don't talk when you don't know anything. The grenade in the AT4 is exactly the same that's in the CG minus the rocket engine. How many live targets did you hit with both to make yourself believe there's a super large difference?

  • Yes, the RPG-7 rounds bounce off often, but that's because they're fucking old. Most are leftovers from the Soviet Union and Iraq. The grenades have long expired and cannot be accounted for in any comparrison.

And for your information, AT4 comes with HE shrapnen, HEAT, and HEAT CSHP. Anything will fit it since it has the exact same proportions as the CG with the exception of rifling.

  • Ok good points and good info. All of your replies have had a personal insult buried in them. Keep in mind that I am actually interested in your views and those of anyone who loves the Gustav. I am only trying to give insight from my point of view as a Gustav gunner in 1st Ranger Batallion. We use it as a Special Ops tool... continued

  • After research I conclude the MBT-law seems superior in some ways and easy to use, but it would be unsatisfactory for special ops; A ranger must carry six rounds out of a plane and be able to move far and quickly. My research did not discover if it is swimmabe like CG.

  • If by "live" you mean combat, never. But in training, of about two dozen or so at-4 rounds; witnessed 1 skip 1 bounce. About 50 RPG; at least 1/4 pooped out, but like you said we were in a crappy country and they may have been old. Countless Gustav rounds (hundreds); I've seen guys miss (rarely) but they never bounced or skipped or failed. I remember these instances well and they have scarred my opinion of the AT-4.

  • Well, too bad about your experience. I've never seen any errors on them other than from the shooter. And indeed, RPG-7 and CG are superior to single fire weapons if you have to travel like special forces do. I was just more focused on the hard infantry part of it. Sorry.

  • They are not the same, but booth have a shaped charge.

AT 4 has fins to stabilize the war head. CG uses a rifled bore to spin the warhead, as a regular rifle does to the bullet.

Neither of the AT 4 or cg uses rockets to propell the grenade.

  • CG uses the rifle bore for HE Shrapnel, Light, and Smoke (probably others too), not for HEAT. A HEAT grenade cannot rotate because it makes the plasma beam spread out instead of focusing on impact.

The HEAT round for CG has a rocet engine that ignites a few meters from the muzzle to give the grenade additional speed and range. Trust me on this.

  • The reason the HEAT doesn't spin is a metal ring around the base of the warhead. On spinning grenades it's made of copper and cut to fit the rifling when the grenade accelerates. The HEAT type grenades have a ring made of harder metal that doesn't cut on the rifling and doesn't cause the grenade to spin.

  • You are right.

It's the ring itself that spins to stabilize the grenade in flight.

The flare you see behind the grenade after being shot is nothing else than a tracer charge, to help visibilty for the spotter. But still no rocket.

Trust ME on this one ;)

  • No, the ring doesn't do anything. HEAT for CG is fin-stabilized. The rocket engine propels the grenade after launch. You'll notice this from the grenade flying up against the win for the first part of the flight, and down wind for the ladder part, while the grenades without rocket engines only fly downwind. You can say whatever you want about this weapon, I stated what I was taught on the course, whereever you heard what you say I don't know.

  • Ooops.

After some research I now know better.

    We're both right and wrong.

The HEAT FFV 651 has no rocket, but as you say, the HEAT FFV 551 has.

The rocket propelled grenade was after my time in the army. Thanks for enlighten me.

  • Oh, I'm sorry. The older model is the same one featured in AT4, and you're right it has no engine. Again, sowwy. ^^

  • The RAP (Rocket Assist Projectile) round became popular and saved the Carl G in the late 80's.

Most armies that employed them were looking to scrap them and replace them with systems such as the ERYX. The cost and effectiveness of the RAP round showed that the Carl G fills a very important gap for the Infantry.

  • Just after doing my 84 carl gustav course. The CG's rounds are fin stabilized as well as the barrel being rifled. CG also uses rounds that are RAP (rocket assisted projectiles)

  • lyden er lidt bagefter,.

  • YouTube kan ikke lide .mov og min mikrofon kan ikke lide eksplosioner.

  • Rifffles???

  • uh, theyre danes!

  • Bless us swedes for making the Carl Gustav, right?

  • i trained and used one of these in the army. 45degrees and 50m of backblast area to avoid i think. though claimed to be recoiless.. theres still a big impact on ur body, especially to the loader. the firer usually is numb from all sound.

  • I use earplugs. And really, the pressure is like having an orgams. Or close. I like it.

  • Yeah those things really clears your airways. Ever tried standing 40 meters behind one?...

  • You know, the safety distance in war is 15 meters. XDDD

  • hehe, would not want to be that close man. at 40 meters it feels like a real strong gush of real hot air ;) Makes you duck instantly

  • The launcher's total back blast area extends 40 m on the M72 LAW....but thats not in war. I think its like 14 merter during war. its a 66mm recil less

  • Wow. It must feel really cool with those riffles

  • It's not better than parachuting, but it's close.

  • Pretty cool. How come the sound is so out of sync though?

  • I think the blast did something to the microphone.

  • LOL

  • Seen it on loads of vids on youtube - think its something to do with the transcoding YT does that f**ks it up

  • Arrechisimo!! Welke kaas heb id nodig?

  • ...what?
