Haven't a clue if this is satire or not? The only year I've considered not. Tired of the lesser of the evils. Watching Dr.Paul, not moving, I DO CARE. Watching mainstream & offbeat media (watching for truth in that). Trying for logic, philosophy, critical thinking. An 18mo child has changed lots for me. Idk yet, w/holding my vote is an option.
Don't vote? Sure give the country away to the most conservative people in the world. If you can't see the difference between right and left, don't worry bc you will soon.
Better idea: Vote Ron Paul. The only anti-establishment candidate. Look at a video of him, it'll turn you into a believer better than anything I can say here.
I used to believe in the "don't vote" idea. I agree that all the politicians are corrupt and don't deal with real issues, but I've come to realize that not voting only makes it worse.
The best thing we should do is vote for any random political party. When politicians realize that all of us are voting, then they'll have to appeal to us in order to win against their competition. And then they'll have to deal with real issues like the war on drugs, corruption, etc. Think about it.
@pulsedrop you said it "all the politicians are corrupt and don't deal with real issues" therefore it will only make it worse. Don't encourage them. Maybe a few care to appeal to us on an individual level, but they disappear in the underlying banality of evil that the state is based on. We're part of that, so stop being a part of it. How did you come to realize that not voting only makes it worse? I could kinda agree unintellectually.
Voting depend on the assumption that they already "own" you.
@pulsedrop Granted the idea of 100% voter turnout, which party would actually do something about those issues? We only have two that are really in a position to gain any power, right? So, just as a hypothetical here, what if both parties did nothing but during an election cycle came out of the woodwork in support of doing something? Would they do something, or would they do nothing? Say they get ousted - would the next guy do something? The status quo is the problem.
The only way to not waste your vote is to vote 3rd party, send a message that the lesser of two evils is still fucking evil and that you won't be a part of it.
seriously Im not gonna vote, at least not at the Federal level because there campains are full of lies and they commit all kinds of crimes against humanity (invading the middle east and running pipelines from the Caspian Sea). I watched millions hope forchange and be given an illusion of economic reform only to find them selves heading toward a worse recession than the previous one. I've seen America's soldiersget surged into a war they were promissed freedom from. For these reasons I dont vote
I really doubt any of those actors really believed what they just told americans. Remember they are just actors. Aside from that, I don't vote... Why? Were given such a shitty group of used car salesmen to choose from !
The "Get out the vote" campaign wouldn't have been pushed so strongly if the candidate who the celebrities endorsed had not been so popular. People who really care enough to understand the nations problems don't need to be encouraged to vote. All they're accomplishing with this ad is to effectively cancel out the votes of the thoughtful and conscientious with those of the knee jerk masses.
Dear Celebrities, Here is my analogy: America equals a fat guy trying to loose weight by choosing between McDonalds (Republicans) and TacoBell (Democrats). Oh sure there are other contenders out there like Burger King, Wendys, and Subway (Ron Paul's Rev.) The problem isn't where you eat albeit the main choices aren't even food. The problem is the system has to change (Fatty's gotta go for a jog or take kick boxing and hes gotta stop dining out) If you can't vote for a needed options don't.
Sadly I like some of these actors but I hate it when they get involve in politics. They have money to waste so they waste it like this. They don't know what a world of difference it could be for middle class americans to have less tax deductions in each paycheck. They think that if the gov.saves a rare fish in the murky waters near San Francisco my life is better off than with those extra 50.00 a week. Yeah right? They only know the difference between a fake PRADA and a real one.
how bout instead of encouraging people to vote you encourage them to research who they're voting for, what good does it do to get a bunch of idiots to go out and vote for random candidates, which will probably end up making them feel good, as if they accomplished something worth while, and then you got all those celebrities acting all high and mighty like "i care about stuff, i vote im a good person", when in fact they're fuckin idiots just like everybody else, THAT COMMERCIAL WUZ ANNOYING!
"what good does it do to get a bunch of idiots to go out and vote for random candidates.." What good does it do to vote at all? Imagine a huge truck speeding towards you at one hundred miles an hour. Politics is two idiots standing in the road arguing over the truck's hood ornament.
i agree with your perception of politics, but i do beleive that voting can be a good thing, but not in america today, because like 98% of people in america dont care enough about this country to do whats necassary to make an educated vote, and because they dont do that you might as well tell every one to draw cards 8 and above for obama, 7 and below for mccain, its pointless, im not saying i do enough research btw, only thing i have ne knowledge on is the economy, that why i like ron paul
Ron Paul is an excellent candidate, but the last thing we need is a libertarian in office when the entire economy collapses. Obama is perfect. He's riding in with a mandate to "change", and everyone believes he will be able to correct our problems. They will devote all their energies and effort into this magical solution, and it will fail totally. It's a tough way to learn a lesson, but it should, hopefully, resonate with the general population. People will outgrow the fantasies in time.
you may be right about bad timing for a liberatarian, but on the other hand not taking so many taxes could balance out the lack of spending by the government, and i agree with you that its good that everybody beleives in obama, but people beleiving in him is due to emotion, nothing concrete, and his mandate for change? like you said, he'll try some stuff, i hope to god succeed (i got quite a bit in the market) but most likely fail miserably as u said, i dunno man, the shits depressing
As Bill Hicks says - "I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs." "I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking." "Hey, wait a minute, there's one guy holding out both puppets!" "Shut up! Go back to bed, America. Your government is in control.

Love this edit job! Turns the original absurd message right on its head. Voting is an act of begging and willing servitude. Never mind "Don't Vote," don't even register.
It's really sad that the drug war is not a major issue among the two parties. Yet another example of why both Obama AND McCain are "more of the same" as the Obamanazis say.
I used to complain about the two-party duopoly, but now Im not sure it exists.

This is yet another coin-toss election in which a pair of disingenuous opportunists will pimp superficial issues with the goal of swaying the politically apathetic with sound bites.
The coin toss is rigged: Heads they win. Tails we lose.
Yeah voting makes such a difference, between two candidates which are just there to keep the lobbies in power happy, and helping them make more money, while squeezing honest workers who believe in this country! And these good actors, what are they afraid of? That if the system change they return to be mr. nobodies? Yeah Hollywood continue to support a lack of change! Instead of promoting real knowledge and a future for our kids, just promote whatever they ask you to!
Voting is there for us to feel like we have power, when we don't. Dont vote, fight the oppressive government in charge. Its not the vote that matters its who counts the votes what counts! Electronic voting is there to make rigging elections easier.
Perhaps. I do think that if say only 5-10% of the population actually voted that the politicians (aka "looters") might be a little less aggressive about (for example) stealing an additional $8000 from each of us to pay for a financial bail-out of Wall Street.
IMHO voting for Libertarian candidates is an okay thing to do, but nothing will ever really change until we change the hearts and minds of the majority of the people.

Alright, I'll refute his argument this way. Its naive to think that not voting delegitimizes the government or elections. Its far past that.
conorhennessey 3 years ago
That should be the focus of libertarians.
Not elections.
