  • lol at all the trekkies getting in a huff. IT'S A JOKE!!! Lighten up, jesus....

  • @dandaman62 Trekkies are almost as annoying as hardcore Christians when it comes to the 2009 Star Trek or Star Trek itself.

  • @SpyBreak101 You are a biggot.

  • Hahaha Funny. :)

  • This was not funny. It showed what the football nerds see when they think of Star Trek. The truth is satires are only funny if they are based on truth. This was not. This was more like Bizarro Trek review. Everything in it is the exact opposite of what true Trek fans really think (Except the fact that they hate the film). The new Star Trek has no story and no point to it. It is a peace of JUNK!

  • @BondFreek wow,someone needs a life

  • @TrojansFrightOn Oh... You should not feel that way about yourself. I'm sure you get out plenty of times.

  • @BondFreek get a sense of humour! I love the original star trek series but there's no dening this is funny :D

  • @MrWataoo Well what is funny to one person is stupid and insulting to another. Some people think that a man getting is balls cut off is funny, were others are more sensitive to the facts of what happens to a man who goes though such horror.

  • @BondFreek ok everyone has there opinion I just thought it was a bit of light hearted comedy but I suppose you're right what one person may find funny someone else may not.

  • @BondFreek *denying

  • @GameFuelDrinker137 That's what I'm saying star wars an star trek are awesome

  • Lol. Distasteful. It's the onion! Have you read their atlas!?

  • Did they... just call Gene Roddenberry a HACK!?!?! A "HACK"!?!?!

Onion News... this was hilarious up until I heard that word muttered : ( I may or may not look upon you the same way again!

  • Ok I get that this is making fun of nerdy old Trek fans. That's fine. But I think dissing a visionary like Gene Roddenberry is just distasteful.

  • I like both old school Star Trek and the new movie. I don't see why people think its terrible. It was very entertaining. BTW Star Trek and Star Wars are BOTH awesome.

  • biggest problem, red matter, it either destroys everything, or send you back in time, theirs no way to tell which it will do, but if you get hit by it, hope for the best :) but this is probably the most almost relay thing onion has ever done, i hope they don't turn into a "real" news channel o and the fact that the evil guy (forget his name) was trying to kill Spock for helping, at least try to make the story believable, every one knows Romulus would simply infect your world with a zombie virus

  • Didn't appreciate Gene Roddenberry being called a 'hack'. He had a remarkably original swing to sci-fi (at the time). Before ST, it was traditional for sci fi dark and bleak. Roddenberry revolutionized the genre by creating a brighter outlook on the future, while at the same time dealing with social, political and moral issues relevant at the time - some messages relevant even today. Other than that, I managed to see the humour in this video, even if it slightly makes fun of my demographic!

  • wow I thought I was watching main street news Not much difference

  • " "Prolonged Unemployment" now top fear among men, surpassing "Severing Dick Vein" '

  • It didn't make sense....

  • Random Star Wars video on my channel......... just saying ;)

  • In response to this, I quote Worf: That is a a joke! I get it. It is not funny, but I get it. :)

  • I really don't know why the new movie got such great reviews. I thought they did a very poor job at developing the plot and making an interesting story with good acting and good drama. I don't know what they were trying to do exactly, but it certainly wasn't a good movie that's for sure.

  • I pay more attention to the scrolling words at the bottom than anything else.

  • @RecycledClock Dude it's not a "news report team." It's a group of actors for a comedy news network.

  • Yes I agree that Bree is hot. But she said that Star Trek started in "The 40's or something" Word for word that is what she says. Did the news research team even bother to get the facts straight?

  • @RecycledClock They exaggerated that on purpose for humor.

  • @vitalsigns1 Your right about that

  • That was truly inspired. Anyone failing to chuckle, hang up your Star Fleet Shingle in SHAME.

  • May The Force Be With You

  • lol does anyone notice that when it shows William Shatner it says 1966-1994 lol like he died

  • Bree Lindsay, you are one sexy woman

  • @LeninsBoyToy44 No she's not...wtf?

  • The problem is that they made Star Trek into Star Wars. They really did remove the spirit of the genre while substituting explosions and faster camera movement. I am glad they did it though, because the franchise was about done. Now there is a second chance to revive it.

  • I love Star Trek growing up with a mom who watched it in the 60's and onward, and yet, this is hilarious

  • As a trekkie, I think this is incredibly funny.

  • i didnt think that was funny. and im not star trek fan

  • I am a huge star trek fan, not just a fan of the 2009 film. I get the joke here, to non star trek fans the shows can be boring. It requires patience and no short attention spans. To me, it is amazing, and I would choose it over star wars any day.

  • @Revoltingmachine Here Here!

  • @Revoltingmachine star wars is a saint

  • @BEST459 To each his own.

  • I don't mind jokes about Star Trek,

but you do not call Gene Roddenberry a hack.

  • bree is hot!

and lol at the original star trek fight scene

  • The new one was great.

  • Too Funny!

  • If you are impressed by colorful visuals and special effects then you're a fag and you don't understand the true beauty of what Star Trek was originally created for. Who gives a shit about special effects. I care about good acting, good storylines, and scientific concepts and ideas that stimulate the mind and make you think. This new movie had none of that.

  • .. Or could be the film is too subtle for your brain and you are distracted by bright lights despite you implying otherwise? Scores of hard-core Trekkers surely knowledgeable of the 'true beauty of star trek' compared to your 'casual filmgoer' credentials disagree with you - as do professional film critics, so reducing your categorical dismissals to mere opinion on your part. Rodenberry was humanist not absolutist: You've failed to engage with the film's subtle artistic and thoughtful layers?

  • @intermender No dude, it's not too subtle for my brain, and I'm not distracted by bright lights, trust me. I'm not drawn in to those types of things nearly as much as I'd be drawn in to great character development, well written scripts, and storylines that keep me hanging on the edge of my seat, because unlike you I have an appreciation for movies that require a degree of human intellect to grasp. I'm not won over by flashy imagry like your average moronic American media consumer.

  • @VitalSigns1 "because unlike you I have an appreciation for movies that require a degree of human intellect to grasp"... I can't argue with this. i already explained why you are insensitive to this film, except you choose not to address those points - just reiterate how great you are even over experts. So accordingly, you will 'reqisitely appreciate' a gujerati film with your subtitles than i could with the native speech, idiom and experience of culture because you have 'film intelligence'?

  • Of course you can't argue with it because you know it's true. I addresed your points about the "subtle artistic layers". I'll say it again, I'M NOT ATTRACTED TO THOSE THINGS. The rest of your comment made absolutely no sense and so I'm unable to respond to it. You should clear your head, organize your thoughts, and try again, because your words are totally jumbled and incoherent.

  • I thought it was a good movie, I wasnt to sure about seeing it as I am a major star wars fan but my friend wanted ta see it and I really enjoyed it...except that most of the aliens are humans with slightly changed features...

  • What a stupid report they need to...get a life.

  • And calling Gene Roddenberry a "hack" and poking fun at the original star trek simply because it's old? Fuck off you stupid bitch. It was revolutionary and groundbreaking, and despite all the technology and billions of dollars the cinema has today, they can't even make a half-entertaining movie.

  • @VitalSigns1 Uhm she was reading a script bro. Calm down.

  • @VitalSigns1 Shut the hell up, nerd.

  • @VitalSigns1 lmfao what a fuckin tard. Im a huge trekkie and I was laughing at this video the whole time. Your obviously the lifeless neckbeard type living in a basement somewhere, the same kind that Shatner told to get a life, lmao.

  • @bRADnaptime You're a trekkie and you're telling me to get a life? I'm just a casual movie goer. The movie sucked.

  • The new Star Trek sucked. I say that not as a "trekkie", but just as a casual movie goer. It didn't entertain me. I'm not at all impressed by special effects. I don't give a shit about that. I go to movies to see good acting, good storylines, and something that draws me in and keeps my attention. The new movie offered absolutely nothing. Star Trek fans have every right to be disappointed.

  • You fans that dress up like WTF... man I am a trekker since birth.. and you embarrass me to admit i watch the show.. Just go to the theater in civilian clothing , stop bitching just be happy that Paramount is making another trek movie.. don't ruin it for us. Oh no the enterprise is to bright, oh now the romulans again.

Sorry bill shatner. truely am for them screwing you.. but remeber in Generations you died..... so how could you be in the future with spock.. just be happy ur producing cd

  • I thought the film was great ,thoroughly entertaining ,what did the tekkie fans want? a complete carbon copy of what went before? or a refreshing reboot which was what the franchise badly needed after 20 years of political correctness shoved into every spin off show (Next generation, deepspace 9,voyager and the godawful enterprise). This is the future for star trek ,going full circle back to its glorious beginning.

  • Lmao Did he just say I'm just really really angry that the storyline made sense?

  • Klingon language subtitled? There are no Klingons in the movie...

  • 1:44 : sounds like Mass Effect. xD

  • I scroll down to say, Bree is hot, and the top comment spoke my mind.

  • The new film was brilliant, well done jj Abrams, Shatners videos have gone in the bin, lots of Action please in the next film and no appearances from the old Zionists.....More Catholic's and Atheists...

  • I know most people prefer this kind of movie since they have the attention span of a 3 year old, making the long dialogue in previous Trek movies impossible to comprehend.

  • brillant ! just brillant !

  • "An elderly black woman is still following president Obama around and shedding a single tear whenever he does anything." HAHA! Leave it to The Onion. Right on.

  • i was so disappointed when my rigorus study of Klingon and Vulcan/Romulan (very similar, just dialects) turned out to be wasted. I mean, subtitles!? What happened to the good old days of Star Trek 4 without any subtitles (true), and so fans had to learn to speak humpback whale as well? This movie was disappointing in its English-dominated dialogue instead of spurring fans to pursue fluency in made up languages? What else r we supposed to do; watch the complete TOS for the 34th time?

  • @ilovedavidtennantDW my question would be did the subtitles match up or was it jiberish :)

  • @ilovedavidtennantDW 34 times?

Amateur. Everyone knows that a Trekkie must watch the original series at least three times a year, so if you've only watched it 34 times, you're obviously not a fan.

  • Jerks

  • Bree Lindsay = Brittany Umar.

  • There was a really funny ad about "Spenditol" from a right wing group before I saw the actual thing.

  • Boo. Funny. but boo. Chris Pine sucks.

  • the comments on this video are exactly the same as the video... but serious. I love it.

  • LOL!

  • What, no mention of the... groan... "Prime Directive?"

  • vvv lol nerds below me vvvv 6,666th comment

  • i'm a trek fan and i thought this movie was good and i can't wait until september for the next one.

  • The Onion is crazy funny!

    Lol!

  • whattup bree?

  • That was some funny shite!

  • Harsh!

  • Thumbs up if you'd like to have hot sex with Bree Lindsay.

  • @SimperingSimpleton I cant give you two thumbs up ... I will create a new account.

  • @SimperingSimpleton her name is Brittany Umar

  • Prolonged unemployment now top fear surpassing "Severing Dick Vein" hahahahahahahahaahahahahahahaaha

  • bree lindsay is one fine piece of work.

  • lol look at all those fugly fans. but i gotta say i agree with them.

  • 1:10,,, Is that from a star trek movie? I dont watch them so please tell me, lol

  • @thecapone45

I don't know if it was a movie or an episode from the series but yes, that's from Star Trek back in the 1960's.

  • @someguy459 ewww,,, no wonder...

  • @someguy459 Yes, it was in the original series episode called "Arena", and the lizard dude is a "Gorn". Just an FYI for you ignorant bastards out there ;)

  • @jonstewartfanboy It's not called "Arena"

  • @keegan47401 Yes it is. It the name of an episode in the original series. Please google "star trek arena", it will land you on the wikipedia article entitled "Arena (Star Trek: The Original Series)" along with pictures of the lizard dude who was a "Gorn" matching the character shown around 1:10. The first sentence reads: "Arena" is an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. It is a first season episode, #18, production #19, first broadcast January 19, 1967 and repeated on July 6, 1967

  • @thecapone45 Its from the original series. Just look up "Worst fight scene ever" on Youtube...

  • Seeing some of these posts just goes to show that Trekkies aren't able to get deeper messages unless they're coming from a Ba'Ku preacher . . .

Nobody seemed to notice the racism commentary with Spock, the angst in Kirk caused by his lack of a father, or the fact that even if you actively surpress emotions, they can still get the better of you. They were apparently blinded by the lense flares during those scenes . . .

  • @millenniumf1138 All the things you just said are character development; I would not count those as deeper messages. Any trekkie will admit that the acting is bad and so are the special effectsYou should learn the diffrence between these two. I personally liked star trek for it's philisophical and moral questions. They basically turned star trek into every other film out there.

  • @scrambledpenis Nero however was unlike every Trek villain seen, other than Khan. He was a tragic character, and unlike other Trek villains he could be identified with on a personal level. I mean, how many of us have lost a loved one? Multiply that by a few billion, and then sprinkle a bit of betrayal for flavor. You get Nero. He was a terrific motivator for the plot. Eric Bana's performance was pretty good, considering he's an Australian comedic actor.

SFX and acting were definitely NOT bad.

  • @millenniumf1138 I never said the acting in the new movie was bad. I just think your mixing character development with deep meaning in a film. and i personally did not think nero was that interesting. his character is similiar to other films. i think the villians in the original star trek were much better. for example apollo, or charlie x, or nomad. all these villians are not evil they are just torment people doing the wrong things. and in the end we the audience learned something from them

  • @scrambledpenis I don't think I'm mixing character development when I say that Spock's experience being bullied mirror's the racism in schools found even today in some places. The result was CD, but it's also an example of a moral issue that still needs addressing in some places. I don't think Nero is like other villains, because he doesn't specifically blame Kirk for anything. He's just a crazy man in a powerful starship, but tragic nevertheless. But you are correct; older villains are better.

  • @millenniumf1138 I dont think the new movie is bad. I just dont think it is much like the original star trek. I feel like there is something i get from watching the original star trek that i dont get from watching anything else. I just think the original show was very innovative for it's time and very interesting. fair?

  • @scrambledpenis That's fair. I didn't mean to imply that you had to like it like I do. I feel that the characters were like the original, but my opinion isn't fact, and so yours will be different.

It is fun to debate, but I'll call it off if you want. :)

    Live long and prosper.

  • @millenniumf1138 I dont think our opinions are that radically different. I feel like I have already said all the points i wanted to make. you sir are a very good debator. Live long and prosper as well! :)

  • @DodgersFanAja Your right. Star Trek ISN'T about violence. It's about peace and long life. Not wars with bald headed, tatooed Romulans that pop out of black holes!

  • Set phasers to mass murder... JJ ABRAMS MUST BE DESTROYED! HE IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE BORG, DOMINION, EVEN THE SPONGEHEADS FROM ENTERPRISE!!!

  • doesnt this usually have Bill O'riley in it?

  • @types10000 No.

  • This was the review that made me want to watch the movie...

  • Actually, I agree with all the things they're saying sarcastically. I didn't really like the new movie and I hated the whole Spock and Uhura nonsense. Bring back sixties special effects and rubbish acting!

  • brie lindsay ....... thats all i have to say

  • Gene Roddenberry, not only wanted action, yet a deep message and lesson. The deep message in the latest movie, is that sheeple will pay to watch anything, as long as it has cg effects.

Quick sum up of the movie, -Spock and Kirk play musical chairs with time line alterations. Ohura sucks face with spock. They meet the romulans who have superhuman strength. The real spock makes an out of character cameo appearence as yoda. Sulu has a sword fight. Enterprise blows up the romulans. The end.

  • fuckin lol at the "flamin' hot yogurt" on the ticker

  • "two out of shape guys in bad makeup fighting awkwardly"

  • Star Trek is so bad

  • Hah so amazing....

  • How can there still be people on YouTube who don't realize that the Onion is a parody news program?

  • Good lord. Parody and sarcasm are wasted on some people!!

  • "way back in the forties or something"

  • Your points are well taken and I appreciate your comment. I can see why it would be taken as sexist and I am sorry if I offended you or anyone else that reads that unthought out comment. Best wishes and thanks again.

  • Apparently Ive stumbled upon the mediocrity appraise network, why does the title say the onion? The new trek movie is a farcry from Roddenberry's envisioned Trek universe!! Sure its an entertaining movie but has little substance compared to the series. It caters to the hipster's not the Trekkie's!

  • @romefox just in case you haven't gotten the hint yet, the onion is a satirical news organization. this was meant as a parody of all the die hard Trekkies who went around bashing the movie for not following the source matterial to the letter. it's just a joke. relax and enjoy it.

  • @romefox in case you didn't get the memo, the onion is a satirical news organization. this was meant as a parody of all the die-hard Trekkies who went around bashing the movie for not following the source material to the letter. it's just a joke. relax and enjoy it.

  • @romefox Oh, quiet! What do you know! I've been a Star Trek fan for longer than you've been alive on the Earth, and this clip doesn't bother me like it does you.

It's The Onion! It's not even a real news show! But it is very funny!

Why don't you lighten-up a bit and explore the strange new (to you) world of a Sense of Humor, eh? And yes, I'm pretty sure that Gene Roddenbery (R.I.P.) would have wanted it that way! :P So do it, damn you! hehehe

  • @WinstonSmith6079 Lookup: Sarcasm! I believe I have a right to express my opinion, If you are an avid fan as you claim then you would understand the point I am trying to make. A single episode of TNG is more intelligently written and better produced. You can see for yourself, most fans have categorized the movie as taking place in a parallel universe therefore rendering void all events from the movie. With that said, I am happy to see the series revived, even though it required no revisioning!

  • @romefox Oh, so that was sarcasm on your behalf? Heh! I'm sure! hehehe

And you can bet your Romulan Ale-swilling ass that I understand your point--it is you that fails to grasp my point.

And my take on this new movie is that it's--all-in-all--pretty decent, though flawed and hardly perfect. It's not so bad, and Star Trekkers: The ADD Generation are over-reacting, in their not-untypical way, and for soooo many of the wrong reasons. Don't be like them! :O

  • @WinstonSmith6079 As stubborn as a a Klingon and as hopelessly mindless as a Borg Drone, however, well played good sir! I wouldn't speak so badly of Romulan's, you know how hostile they can be, you wouldn't want to disappoint Ambassador Spock now would you. Lulzz...

  • @romefox Me, speak badly about Romulans? No way!

On the contrary, they're great! It is because stabbing your pals in the back is a lifestyle for them! hehehehe Awesome! hehehe As THEY say, 'Treachery will get you everywhere!' hehehehe

  • You guys know that this wasnt a real news cast righr???

  • Damn, those Trekkies are STUPID! That movie was amazing, I used to kinda like Star Trek but that movie made me LOVE it!

  • The amuzing this is

    the story didn't make sence.

  • Yes there was television but its use and development was put off by saving the British and the French once again during World War II. You sound like an ass number one and number two like someone who does not know much about hiistory which by the way I have made my life. I am a well published author on many areas of history including television and radio so were I you I would stop showing how stupid you are by opening your mouth and not knowing shit of what you speak. Cheers!

  • @MrFBCBSALES I'm not trying to degrade you or anything like that, but you know, this is a fake news channel... I just don't think that these people are 'inept' and even if they legitimately made one small err that was irrelevant to the joke. I don't think it's worth getting your knickers in knot over, when you say, "...idiot women reporters????" it can be seen as offensive and sexist, even if you may not have meant it that way. Besides, it may lower your reputation as an author for saying that.

  • I miss the awkward fighting, I mean it leaves room for ingenuity and intelligence to make a bamboo cannon.

  • Boy is this woman stupid, there was not even television in the 1940s! Where do they dig up these idiot women reporters?????? Better yet did they ever go to school for just the basics of history???? What an inept idiot.

  • @MrFBCBSALES Hmmm, yes, that might have been true for your country, but please do your research before posting... You know, there is a whole world beyond the borders of your country... some of those countries already had television from the 1930's maybe even earlier... who's the idiot now?

  • @MrFBCBSALES I was a joke, dude! You missed it; you didn't get it! That doesn't exactly make YOU a genius, ya know!

And that chic is hot! hehehehe

  • there was no klingon dialougue in the movie ):

  • Oh man, I forgot how funny The Onion used to be... I actually managed to "lol" a few times during this video, and I saw it back when it first came out.

  • @ChriosM WTF? How funny the onion "used to be?" Yeah -- it was great from 1998-2009, and then yesterday it started sucking? Let me guess -- you started watching/reading the onion circa 2008-2009. --eyeroll--

  • More Mary Kholer please ONN!

  • I agree with Klingon lady, where was the stiff acting?!

  • My father grew up with the original Star Trek and he LOVED this movie.

He constantly praises Karl Urban's performance as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy.

  • @AlanJaamal I'm probably around your father's age and I completely agree with him. Sadly, I've been having long pointless arguments with Trekkers claiming this movie isn't "canon", that Abrams is a hack, blah blah blah. There's just no reasoning with people that are prejudiced.

  • single black woman..lol

  • fuck you

  • o.mg... is this for real? no way.......??

  • @eternalsnowxx Of course its real.

  • Hmmm. I don't know. As much as I liked the original series I did believe it could have done with a 'reboot' or a makeover in some ways. But I'm kind of in the middle here. I wouldn't have taken it quite far as Abrams did either.... My impression of what a suitable 'middle ground' would have been is definitely different to his...

  • @D3adGoon Well said. While I liked the movie I think Abrams took it a little too far. Yes it's in an alternate universe and so on but there should have been some continuity to tie it in to the original universe. I think it would have helped older fans like myself ease into it. But Paramount basically gave Abrams carte-blanche to "revive the franchise". They should found a director that had more experience to reboot this.

  • Yeah. Take those fanboys down a peg.

  • black woman shedding a single tear..... hehe

  • This reminds of hardcore Resident Evil fans who hated Resident Evil 4.

  • ???

  • Haha some hack in the 40s or something lol

  • There were Klingons in the movies?? O.O

    ... I didn't see anything... LOL.

  • I miss Wrath of Khan...
