I will be voting for Boris in the Mayoral elections, not because of his refreshing zest for life and his passion for London, but because of his record and his policies. Despite the Lib Dem/Tory spending cuts to control the debt, police numbers in London have gone UP by 9% under Boris, he has created over 300, 000 new jobs and he has done a lot of work with inter-faith charities to bridge differences between communities. Do we really want to wreck all that by electing some old demagogue?
yes, he's funny, and I say this as an Englishman, but he proves how fucking stupid the average English person is.
He went on have i got news for you and fucked it up, he couldn't even read the auto-cue. but nope, he made you laugh so you smacked your hands together like a fucking retarded seal.
" 'ee made me larf! I wan't him to run the capital of my countreee!"
@PripyatSurvivor It wasn't that he couldn't read the autocue, he flew in that day and had no time to even look at the jokes like all the other guest presenters do. When he was reading the jokes out, he was effectively hearing them for the first time himself.
He's quite clever, at leat cerebrally. Not sure if he's clever in a more practical 'governing' way though ..
An absolute goldmine from our dear lord Mayor, may he bring back passive smoking and ban barbecues. I sincerely adore him, only slightly less so for his recently less ridiculous hair.
The thing about Boris is he suffers from a type of Audio Dislexia he is too intelligent for his own Verbal good lol but unlike many of his many mp counter parts atleast he has some common sense and for a toff thats a very good thing because it shows an element of class and tradition that has been lost!!!
as a non-smoker, I really don't get the smoking bans. No one forces you to hang around with people that smoke cigarettes, neither do they force the smoke down your throats.
It IS annoying when you go into a room and every single person is smoking, but that was rare anyway.
I really don't get it. Just a load of health conscious wankers who think drinking a glass of coke with give you brain cancer and that just looking at a picture of a big mac will make you obese.
Great clip, incidentally as a child i used to watch Tv with my mum when one day on some show or another Bobby Crush came on... my mum said... oooh love now theres a handsome man, you can be more like him love when you grow up...
piss off mum... no one who plays the piano while looking that happy should be considered a role model, he seemed to me like a bobbley headed freak (good piano skills though) and seeing him again years later he's just the same :)
The only common sense observation I have ever hear Boris speak - if your immune system decides to allow a cancer to develop in your lungs, it makes little difference what you are breathing in...same as if your body allows a tumour to develop in your prostate,..only difference is it hard to blame passive smoking for a prostate cancer occurance!
I've seen that clip of a man throwing an egg at John Prescott so many times. Why exactly did he even do it? And why where they protesting? Prescott should have had his mouth wide open, he would have had a quick dinner!
@Swaahny - Yes, used here because for a long time it was the music for Hamlet cigars TV adverts (slogan Happiness is a cigar called hamlet) in the the 80s when there were cigar but not cigarette ads on TV.
To the conservative people here, just wanted to get your opinion on mine.
I'm a liberal, and its one of the core principals of a liberal to let people do what they like as long as they don't hurt other people. 2nd hand smoking clearly hurts other people. Is my support for the smoking ban so crazy?
Not trolling or looking to piss people off, just wanted to get your guys' take.
At what level does harm require government intervention and can people consent to a certain amount of harm?
For example, Should real fires be banned in pubs, because of the carcinogenic risk from that? Granite used in buildings with insufficient airflow to remove radon gas produced?
And Is it the governments place to force a private business to ban things. If a Pub wants to ban smoking, let them.
I don't think pro/anti smoking is necessarily a party political issue.
i dont smoke and i hate smoking bans...especially in pubs, when your with a bunch of people then half of them have to leave every 20 mins to go have a fag...disrupts the flow of conversation..

We have poverty, foreclosures, limited jobs, inflation issues, War, Biological warfare & a uncaring government..But yet everyone worries about a harmless cigarette?
lol... i can't fault that .. it pissed me off just as much as anybody when the smoking ban took off... the amount of good little pubs that have since closed their doors due to going bankrupt thanks to the die hard regulars who were also smokers just deciding to stay home and drink so they can enjoy a ciggarette instead of having to brace the freezing cold temperatures. Alot of local pubs suffered terribly :-(
anyone dead against smoking wouldn't of got a job as a barman. fact .lol
@mrbassman25 I know what you mean. A friend of mine here on Youtube made so many videos trying to discredit these stupid bans. You can check him out on Hairychestnuts & see on his vids how he went after them. Hit a brick wall though! (sad) But you can visit my page anytime because smoker's are always welcome! ;)
@mrbassman25 Also it is sad how us smokers have to suffer because of antis got the government involved. The only way to stop & have these bans lifted? If every smoker out there breaks these laws, The judges have enough to do w/real crimes & don't want to be bothered w/smokers & there will be so many cases that the courts will throw them out & complain it is too much & the bans will be lifted. They pushed us & we have to push back even harder. Why should we stand in the cold? Let them!

Lol, my dad (who has been smoking cigars and pipes for nearly fofty years) says he's going to buy me a cravat and a classical Edwardian/Victorian smoking jacket for Christmas for me to wear when I smoke cigars in our lounge.
You're 22 aswell? I can understand why people might think it looks strange but it's more refined than smoking a cigarette.
@dezboss Hey I too can totally relate. I'm 19 and only smoke cigars. I tend to have Nicaraguan's rather than Cuban's as they tend to be better made when you compare prices.
@dezboss I have them fairly regularly. The last time I bought a box of 10 for £60 in June which has just about ran out now. I had one at weekend too, although usually everyone steals some as they're too poor to afford them themselves (student fail) I really do recommend trying them. Charatans my favourites, cost about 7 pound each. Really must have a Churchill at some point, I've only really smoked corona's thus far :)
@fish2 I had a Charatan over the weekend and one or two large cuban cigars. They were wonderfull! I have to hide mine in my room so nobody steals any (not that it's happened yet!). I remember some years ago buying my dad a huge box of 6 cuban cigars from Mexico that cost 60 dollars, he had one and the rest got shredded by an insect in France!
Cigars are fantastic, an annoyingly expensive habit but great nonetheless. Do you find that smoking them in public, you gets loads of attention? I do.
@dezboss Haha glad you enjoyed! And ouch to your dads cigars. My dad doesnt smoke cigars, but ever since I started smoking them, he's interested in trying one. But yeah, I agree on the expensive bit, had to buy a new box the other day as I smoked two last week with 2 people trying their first cigars, to celebrate passing an assignment. Yeah, I very rarely smoke them in public due to the attention, people tend to think youre a pretentious twat lol. Then again I suppose I am, but I'm not stopping!
@shotgunjoe Too true, I'm 22 and I've been a non-smoker all my life but I've recently started to have the occasional cigar. I really enjoy smoking them.
@jaylpp12 At the moment I'm having small villagers cigars at weekends socially. I intend to start on large cuban ones soon. There is something very civilised about the ambiance of smoking a cigar isn't there?
Smoking bans make me want to take up smoking. Surely I can't be alone, I'd love nothing more than the number of smokers to rise dramatically in retaliation to all the government mindnumbing anti-smoking propoganda.
@hgchjk Because, as I have explained, they are not out to offend you. You are taking offence merely because you have a personal problem with the smell, a smell that many others have no problem with. What you are talking about is behaving in a way that has no other intention other than to offend. Feel entitled by all means, but the recipient would doubtlessly question your warped sense of self-granted entitlement and may well punch your lights out.
.... To fart in someone’s face is a clear act of intent to offend, and anyone would be offended; I suspect moreso by the intention rather than the actual act. To insist that things other people enjoy be outlawed purely because you find them personally annoying would suggest zealotry.
We need to make a distinction here between common daily irritations and genuine assaults. Someone smoking on a bus is not doing so to purposely annoy you; they would smoke even if you weren’t there. You find the smell of cigarette smoke disgusting, but that’s your personal opinion. Many others are indifferent or actually like the smell and are not offended. Cont...
Anti-smoking puritans have existed for as long as smoking. They have tried many things to rid themselves of their personal pet peeve - higher taxes, bans on advertising etc. but, despite a fall in the number of smokers, smoking continued. The new tactic was public pressure i.e. to demonise smoking and the smokers themselves by fostering the idea that smokers were not only unsociable, but were also killing people around them. Cont..
....Many people, who already found smoking annoying, were more than willing to become a pawn in the anti-smoking agenda. Unable to think for themselves and to see how they were in fact simply being used by fanatics, they gladly took up the role (all eerily similar to the propaganda used to demonise Jews in the 1930's). This is where we are today, where the act of smoking a cigarette is equated with such things as physical assault, murdering babies, or farting directly into someone's face.
I consider understandable to request they didn't smoke if they are sitting next to you yes, but the idea that it is any way acceptable to fart directly into their face is absurd. What you're talking about here is annoyances that we all have to deal with and tolerate on a daily basis. You are now equating such an annoyance with something as gross as farting in somone's face. That's not reason talking; that's just the voice of someone indoctrinated with anti-smoking dogma.
@hgchjk If it's impossible for you to not fart, I'd hate to be at a dinner party in your company. I don't want to live in a country that legislates on smells that some people may not like; that's facism. Why are you bringing up the supposed health effects now? Because your smell argument has crumbled?
@hgchjk Cool. So it follows that if someone farts on the bus I should be entitled to blow smoke directly into their face? Or should farting in an enclosed public space be made illegal too?
@hgchjk As a smoker, I agree with you. Smoke is disgusting... although the smell of flavoured tobacco, certain cigars and marijuana smoke can often be quite pleasant. The best marriage is smoking outdoors in private... it's the best experience for the smoker, and not a nuisance for non-smokers. Yippee!
Andrewfyffe look at Labour and their policies. They are just as bad if not worse than the tories. For a party that used to be once for the working people they are all about money, money, money while pretending they care for this once great country.
I'm from a working class family and find Boris great. He doesn't hide he comes from a well off family and why should he.
Boris saved a lady being attacked from hoodies. Could you imagine Blair jumping out of his limo to do the same. I doubt it.
if you agreed with boris views or not....you have to admire the fact he's a polition who will say what he thinks even if it flys in the face or the brianless pc liberal zombies and there lliberal nazi...... you cant say or think that moronic bullshit!......boris for priminster!
his party advocate the very rich becoming richer and the poor becoming poorer if not to a state that the poor become homeless and ill - his party also do not like the idea of giving free health so the poor people die.
@andrewfyffe Just in case you haven't realised: Since 1997 when Labour was elected, the wealth gap has increased. I.e. the rich are richer are vastly richer than they were before then.
Tory's support and encourage entrepreneurship. As a consequence there are more opportunities for poor people to get rich and rich people to get richer.
@TomMackio: Don't waste your breath on that guy. Some people just think a party behaves a certain way and miss the reality that parties change ALL THE TIME and it is up to the people to keep up with what is happening. On paper, the Tories sound awful but when you look at Boris Johnson's actions, you see that although he is of that party, he is effective, intelligent and a "do-er" who isn't afraid to say what needs to be said. I hope he stays for awhile as Mayor of London.
Are you aware that Shariah Law is one of the most FAR RIGHT political policies in the modern world? Please do us all a favor and google the words "liberal" and "Islamic". Not wanting to lynch Muslims like the BNP do is a bit different from espousing their views.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Shariah Law is not far right, for the simple reason it's not called far right by the media. Geert Wilders is not really far right, but he is because the media say so.
There is an alliance in the west between "liberals" and islamics. Liberals are always the first say we need to appease islamic nutters. So they are not really liberals to encourage Sharia Law, but they are liberals because they are called liberals.
Do you prefer people who aren't that world wise and have a narrow conception of how others life and what their interests are? I think you are nuts to think such a toff buffoon can seriously be considerd to aim to meet to people's interests.
the thing about cancer is it affects everyone you either get it or you know someone close to you that has it or "had" it and as its the only illness that cant be stopped and can affect anyone race colour or creed so people will do anything they can to stop it they will make the world 10 times more miserable to remove a 1 percent chance of getting cancer
why would you wan't to drink in public, such as buses and in the tube? (mind you i'm not a brit so i'm shure if he banned all drinking including sodas)
Erm, which do you think poses more of a threat to other passengers, or is more likely to be antisocial in general: a man who's experiencing a mild nicotine buzz or a drunk man? Not really the same thing.
Tabacco is possibly the most pointless of drugs. There seems to be no advantage to taking it. Not that I believe it should be banned, just that having tried it, I simply don't get it. There is no positive effect, and it tastes and smells like stale, wet nappies. My only theory is that addiction causes people to make excuses and they actually begin to believe it's nice?
The banning of smoking in public places like the underground and planes started off because of fires more than passive smoking! Some silly anti-smoking people somehow managed to shift the attention in the past 20 years.
"You'd be very hard pushed to find an MP who would admit NOT!!! to have hadding... haven..."
How is it fair that the U.K. has this guy and we have Sarah Palin and Arnold Schwarzenegger? They fuck up a sentence and I want to lie down in traffic, he does it and it feels like Christmas.
If Sarah Palin graduated from Oxford or Harvard, and is a descendant of Royalty or an American Political Dynasty, It might help a little bit, think George W. Bush.
As much as I agree with him on the smoking point. I do find the contrast between him arguing for people being allowed to smoke tobacco and his opinions on anything illegal.
If you live in a city or a largly populated area where many cars are driven. Your lungs will pick up particulate carbon which is similar to what you get from smoking.
Lord, this reminds me of the HIGNFY when Paul waged epic battle against the scourge of cigarette addiction... by which I mean an audience member threw a cig on the floor and Paul stared at it longingly for half the show while bemoaning having quit the day before
Have people ever been allowed to smoke on a plane? I sure I don't remeber that ever happening - I remember people smoking on buses. Seems weird now doesn't it?
the thing he says about barbecuing is rubbish, because how many barbecues does an english person have a year, 2 or 3 at most. public smoking is something that can follow you around most of your time apart from at home, so yes passive smoking is a problem because it was so prevalant everywehere you went
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
well you make a valid well thought out point sir. im so glad you have made me see the error of my ways. now kindly go away and come back when you have somthing constructive to say
Its so so good to hear a non smoker supporting public smoking. I don't smoke very much at all but love the fact that over here in Budapest where i'm living at the moment I can light up almost anywhere so I should desire. People should have the right to choose to smoke if they want. Including in pubs and clubs and most other places
drinkers and smokers are not a drain on the tax payer. People that claim old age pension from 60 to 97 whilst having numerous opperations and ending up in a state funded oap home cost more thabn someone who has a heart attack at 55

Smoking bans make me want to take up smoking. Surely I can't be alone, I'd love nothing more than the number of smokers to rise dramatically in retaliation to all the government mindnumbing anti-smoking propoganda.

@hgchjk Don't force us to put up with your selfish, oblivious little world where only what you want matters.
'Smoking offends me!' Yeah, so fucking what? That fact that you're allowed an opinion offends me. Being offended doesn't entitle you to jack shit.
If you told me outside a bar that you didn't want me smoking I'd light a second and smoke two at once.
Fuck you.
ReamisVobe 1 year ago 2
@hgchjk Whether or not you actually fart in people’s faces is irrelevant. You said:
‘I think if someone starts on smoking on the bus or tube I should be entitled to go up to them and fart in their face.’
Just what am I taking too literally? Am I now supposed to interpret that in a different way?
sreymind 1 year ago
With all the hardships in the world, why is smoking such a huge issue???
OzzyFan87 1 year ago 3
@hgchjk Because, as I have explained, they are not out to offend you. You are taking offence merely because you have a personal problem with the smell, a smell that many others have no problem with. What you are talking about is behaving in a way that has no other intention other than to offend. Feel entitled by all means, but the recipient would doubtlessly question your warped sense of self-granted entitlement and may well punch your lights out.
sreymind 1 year ago
.... To fart in someone’s face is a clear act of intent to offend, and anyone would be offended; I suspect moreso by the intention rather than the actual act. To insist that things other people enjoy be outlawed purely because you find them personally annoying would suggest zealotry.
sreymind 1 year ago
We need to make a distinction here between common daily irritations and genuine assaults. Someone smoking on a bus is not doing so to purposely annoy you; they would smoke even if you weren’t there. You find the smell of cigarette smoke disgusting, but that’s your personal opinion. Many others are indifferent or actually like the smell and are not offended. Cont...

@hgchjk
Cont..
sreymind 1 year ago
....Many people, who already found smoking annoying, were more than willing to become a pawn in the anti-smoking agenda. Unable to think for themselves and to see how they were in fact simply being used by fanatics, they gladly took up the role (all eerily similar to the propaganda used to demonise Jews in the 1930's). This is where we are today, where the act of smoking a cigarette is equated with such things as physical assault, murdering babies, or farting directly into someone's face.
sreymind 1 year ago
@hgchjk
That's not reason talking; that's just the voice of someone indoctrinated with anti-smoking dogma.
sreymind 1 year ago
@sreymind Well put sir
Redsparrowe123 1 year ago
@hgchjk If it's impossible for you to not fart, I'd hate to be at a dinner party in your company. I don't want to live in a country that legislates on smells that some people may not like; that's facism. Why are you bringing up the supposed health effects now? Because your smell argument has crumbled?
sreymind 1 year ago

I doubt it.

TomMackio 1 year ago 5

ForwardN2Unknown 2 years ago 5

Shariah Law is not far right, for the simple reason it's not called far right by the media. Geert Wilders is not really far right, but he is because the media say so.
There is an alliance in the west between "liberals" and islamics. Liberals are always the first say we need to appease islamic nutters. So they are not really liberals to encourage Sharia Law, but they are liberals because they are called liberals.
You hate the BNP but they didn't cause 7/7.

the thing about cancer is it affects everyone you either get it or you know someone close to you that has it or "had" it and as its the only illness that cant be stopped and can affect anyone race colour or creed so people will do anything they can to stop it they will make the world 10 times more miserable to remove a 1 percent chance of getting cancer
