Great commentary. This was the first film commentary I ever watched. Thought it was amazing, all it did was set me up for disappointment. No other commentary has come close to this.
Also, it added to the experience to have the subtitles. Good idea.
I laughed out loud when I read what you wrote on the screen about there being another copy on YouTube without talking. "Find it." I could just hear Ferris' voice saying that. Thank you for taking me back to a very magical time in my life. John Hughes means the world to me. He can always take us back to the eighties.
a few written questions on one other occasion. I also learned that he had his commentary removed after the DVD was released in 1999 so that it couldn't be used in future copies so I am so thankful you shared it with us. I saw this in the summer before 9th grade and actually remember being in the theatre and where I was sitting with my best friend. We laughed so hard that we had go back to see it two more times because we missed so much from the laughter. I am feeling so nostaligic right now
This is my very first YouTube comment, and I registered just so I could thank you for posting this. I am technologically challenged as well, so I think you did a very good job with it. I watched all eight of the sections and enjoyed it so much. It is fascinating to get inside the mind of the elusive late John Hughes. I did a little research today and found out this was one of the only "interviews"(even though it wasn't an interview) he ever did, it is the closest thing we have. He answered
I know this is going to sound strange,but...this movie, along w/several other Hughes films are a big part of what made me who i am today.I wanted to have fun(regardless of age)for the rest of my life.I took advantage of my i.q. and an inheritance and ran w/it.I now own several corn mazes and at 34,have as much fun w/life as i did at 14.As Ferris would say,"Life moves pretty fast......".Words to live by people. It's all fun and games til you have nothing to show for it-don't let life pass you by!
@entertainmentguy1984 - Hi, you're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to write your thank you! :) This is from the first dvd. It's just a head shot of Ferris on the case with his hands behind his head and says widescreen across the top (I believe). I don't have the dvd with me now as it's at my parents' house, but I'm almost 100% sure that the description on the back of the case actually says that the commentary is on the disc.
VERY interesting m8.....wow the parents married in real life...I only saw this recently and am an addict now...LOVE IT....so sad that the Director died a few years ago
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS UP!!!! IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND WATCH ALL THESE AWESOME OLD MOVIES I WOULD BUT I CAN'T SO I GO NUTS LOOKING FOR THEM!! and any way thanks :D
@maj1986 - You're welcome! I'm so glad you had enjoyed it :)
I can't believe the commentary isn't included anymore. Such a shame! Personally, I'd rather have that bonus than the actors talking about their characters!
thank you so much for this! i love commentaries...john hughes was great, i somehow feel like i'm listening to an actual person...like you can connect with him. :]
"He does a lot of things that kids do at bath time. He plays with his hair and he sings to the microphone, and covers the camera when he washes his "privates" WHILE he talks about politics. Which I thought was a good context for him to discuss how he feels about politics."
@Custom09 - It's the Widescreen Collection one. I think it was released sometime in the late 1990's. The cover simply has a headshot of Ferris with his hands behind his head. Thanks for subscribing, too :)
@ReadyForThe80s Bro, listen thx for the post dont listen to idiots complaining, this is a great resource for indie film makers and I know the work it took to post a 2 hour movie in 10 min increments on youtube, thx again for the post
@cremington11 - Awww! Thanks for such a sweet message! :) It was such a pain to make the videos but it's nice comments like yours and the ones where people say how happy they are to have finally heard the commentary, or say how much they've enjoyed the videos, that make it worth all the trouble :)
@nypd1776 - You're so welcome! Thank you for the lovely comment. I'm happy you enjoyed it (oh, I just noticed how long ago you made the comment - better late than never as they say! :D )
@MrKino99 - You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) There are a few DVDs with the commentary on Ebay right now if you're looking to get a copy. :)
@Geert365 I don't know. Maybe because of space on the DVD. There are other extras in the "Bueller Bueller" edition (including an interview with John Hughes) but no commentary. Even the new Blu-rays don't have the commentary.
This is great hearing the commentary for one of my favorite films. I like hearing commentaries for many of my favorite films like the ones by John Waters. Commentaries to me makes the film more interesting.
No point in having a fucking commentary.
