its like a huge log compared to regular axle pins. it looks more like a mini pump than an axle!

The idea is it reduces the torsion of the wheel, so the wheel better follows where you point the handlebars under strain.

each time i go to take my wheel of my totems, it seems impossibly tight, and i have to use an evil spanner to get it off, but it tightens up even if i leave it loose, i think it might be cross threaded but i dont see how. help anyone?

try applying some grease every time you unscrew it, if that doesnt work then take it down your lbs
