  • cheers dude nice one!

  • thkx

  • the quality of video camera is to low plz use better den dis camera.............n u r playing to goood.

  • @vicky9833 The quality of your writing is poor.

  • wooooooooow!!!!

  • ARE YOU A WIZARD?

  • @sleeperfrowner im not sure if this is what you mean, but if your guitar doesn't have 19 frets (which you would touch lightly to get the harmonic sound), you can also just imagine where the 19th fret would be if the fretboard continued and touch there. (this goes with nearly any fret)

  • master justin what is the meaning of AH in harmonics and how do you do that?tnx

  • ~Very good~

  • Sound like a young Ringo Starr :)

  • I dont get it !

  • I just don't get it

  • @secretsanny can you even do a natural harmonic?

  • @ilmatteo95 You are not alone lol. I dont get it either.

  • @ilmatteo95

No that was the prob, I was a beginner at that time, now I can!

  • @secretsanny Cool, keep playing!

  • Dude can u please post a video on how to play Default- Supposed to be on guitar...

  • what if its in the 7th fret? like using b chord? you said 12 frets above the original note if we're going to do some harmonic? how can we create a harmonic on that? please reply. i just want to know

  • @sleeperfrowner Play the B chord at the 2nd fret 5th string and create the harmonics from there. Hope this helps!

  • thanks buddy ! you're totally great :D

  • do i have to press hard? i touch it and no sound is heard

  • are you wearing a splint on your right middle finger?

  • Just posted an original song that uses natural harmonics in some cool ways - please check it out! ("Mean it for real"). Thanks so much, I appreciate the indulgence :P

  • 2:04 hahahah I can't stop laughing on this it sounds really funny! JEDI MASTER hahahhaa

  • Damn you, you said node now i must do physic revision

  • Jesus christ is future king of makind

  • AWESOME!!

  • thank you so much, you're the only youtube guitar teacher who's been able to teach me pinch and harp harmonics so that I can actually understand how to do them. cheers

  • you are like the best guitar teacher,,

  • this is what i've been looking for, i've never known how to really produce those high pitch harmonics, thanks a lot!

  • so just put my finger on the metal piece?

  • yes!

  • man i really want to thank u. really i learnt a lot of guitar just bcoz of you. i account 50% of all pf my success to you

  • Superb video man seriously I loved it

  • yesss this is what i was looking for :)

  • Justinai, ačiū labai! Tu tiesiog išgelbėjai mane. Sutaupiau labai daug laiko. Labai gerai ir aiškiai papasakojai. Nata + 12 skirsnių. Liuks! Groju jau kelis metus, bet niekada nekreipiau dėmesio į visokius Harm. virš pirštuotės.

  • Wow, this is so cool. I hadn't thought of this, I only ever play harmonics on open strings, but touching different frets for different harmonics :)

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! Great video for beginners like myself.

  • this will help me play my classical guitar :) thanks

  • thanks man very helpful been trying to figure that out for quite some time

  • thanks Justin!! XD

  • Very nice, the best video on the subject I'v seen in the intertubes.

    The close up really helped.

  • Thank you so much. I finally learned how to do harmonics.

  • Excellent demonstration thanks so much!

  • thank you!

  • thanks

  • you can use your pinky finger to pick instead of your thumb...

I would prefer it to be shown as a jazz/classical technique, instead of just classical...

  • @LinkBulletBill Whatever floats your boat. I found that I like to use my ring finger. I can't use my thumb sometimes as it might have a thumb pick on it. =)

  • Not mostly for classical...

It was first used by Chet Akins in the 1950s, but was revived by Lenny Breau, the true creator of picking harmonics IMPO... It was done for jazz, but now is used mostly by Classical guitarist nowadays and the long ways of picking harmonics for jazz is rare to be seen.

  • @LinkBulletBill

Agustin Barrios used these harmonics before Chet Akins or Lenny Breau and he was a classical Guitarist

  • @leavemealone2006

but i still consider it a classical/jazz thing... But still Lenny Breau reinvented it in his unique way.

  • @LinkBulletBill

Yeah, I just wanted to point that out :P

  • Is it easier to make harmonics on steel stringed guitar?

Because when i try on my nylon stringed it only sounds on the 12th fret

  • @lolohour

    Both are equally eat IMPO...

  • Hey Justin this is the first video from you that i have watched nice skills, thanks for sharing!!

  • great teaching! :D

  • Could you help me XD?

I finally know HOW TO play harmonics... but I can barely hear them myself XD

  • @flyndrefitte if the intonation on your guitar is off, than harmonics will sometimes not ring well. Old or dirty strings will also affect the way harmonics sound, as well. You may just need to pick the string a little harder when you play a harmonic. I hope these tips help you out.

  • @flyndrefitte haha ..me too ! btw, this video is great

  • tanks man very useful

  • I discovered myself how to make one hand harmonics, but I pluck with my middle finger instead of the thumb. It works better with the thumb because of the distance between the index finger and the thumb. More distance, more sound.

  • Thanks Justin, I have been using many different techniques .,but I see you are using you large thumb nail. Much easier then plucking with back of the nail. Jay from North Dakota...

  • Thanks for the info... now to practice.

  • @edwinECE lol

  • steel string?easy

nylon string?i want to cut my finger!!!!!!!!1

  • @farrieswong

    lol

  • cool!!1

  • I'm playing in a pit-orchestra that requires this technique. Thanks so much for the lesson.

  • wow man thanks so much

    that's was great

  • plucking it from behind. ha.

  • @acedrums

I've got a big red one naha :D

  • Justin you are the man!! I can't tell you how much i appreciate your videos, because of your tutorials, i started playing guitar again!! Thanks you!

  • thank you

  • thank u so much

  • Have a long way to go!

  • i like the technic, thanks

  • nylons dont sounds as good lol.

  • @sansaephanh

    sounds beautiful a classical guitar!

  • It's important to remember that you can't just lay your index finger of your right hand down on the higher fret. You *must* pluck behind it with your thumb or it will not sound. Some people forget that somehow.

  • What do you do if you don't have the time grow your nails like classical guitarists do?

  • Thum pick

  • use a thumb pick.

  • pick with your fingertips, iyou might grow calluses on your right hand though. Or use a pick.

  • harmonics work only on the12th, 7th, and 5th frets of my gutar. how ddo you do it on other frets?

  • that is when you have the open string. so when you have the open string it only works on those frets. when you hold down a note on a fret you go 12 frets above and do a harmonic there

  • no it works in other places too on open strings. it just doesn't sound as clear/strong

  • T H A N K Y O U !!!!!

  • Hi Justin any chance of the chords demo to the song....Dont know why I didnt call from the singer Norah Jones.

Thanking you very much and I do appreciate you being you.

  • Is this James Blunt's long lost brother??

  • @duney hahaha that's what I thought when I first saw himm hehehehhee, he really looks like james Blunt..

  • Dude, I've been looking for a lesson on this. You're a legend!

  • @MonkeysNutsacks

could of wrote Lenny Breau harmonic lesson... since lenny was the real creator IMPO...

  • I dont understand a fck about harmonics :/

  • go to his last video (TE-010)

  • I can do some harmonics now.. only the arcustic ver.. I just needed to practice. ;p

  • its not that hard i learned how to tap harmonics from this guys vids. the idea is basically hitting a articicial harmonic

  • very useful, thank you very much ^^

  • dang, this is gunna take me forever to master

  • most classical players do

  • Just on one hand, he needs them. As do I, sounds so much better. Its odd for me now, I am seriously bummed when I break a nail heh.

  • smileymileywiley. shut up ya big poof!

  • wow das nice

  • I learned to do the harmonic with the middle and pointing finger, think it'seasier

  • Very useful, thank you.

    Rosanella :-)

  • .......ok intresting

  • cool

  • is it just me,but this guy sounds like the guy that helps wayne and garth put on Waynestock in waynes world.

  • nvm i got t.. u jsut have to touch so very lightly.. and u have to do it precisely XD eek its guna take a lot of practice to get this down =] ty for the lesson man!

  • ok im trying to do this... but im just getting a badly muffled sound.. can anyone help me?

  • Very good and useful video. I'm fairly knowledgeable with guitar too.

I learned a few things. Thanks.

  • dude ty ty ty ty this helped me so so much 5 stars

  • yay! now i can play harmonics! awesome! thanks :D

  • Quite good. I've trained it before, not with chords, but with some melody played by the left hand. I am very far from getting such clean sound as you do.

  • thank you

  • I'm here for the guitar lesson. But I have to say you're hot

  • fuckyt

  • its the accent lol

  • im aussie and i noone says that to me='[

  • well u should put up a guitar lesson..then we'll see..

  • wow thats great^^ thanks for the lesson!

  • very good video.

    thanks!

  • I don't get it xD How to make it sound? I can't hear it enough to say i manage it.. .:S please, someone!

  • you gotta barely touch it (without pressing down) and take yer finger off rite after you pluck

  • thnx man i was wondering how that was done

  • ahhh! i did this by only hitting the side of my thumb against the note !! but it was never loud enough! i never knew you had to pluck it ! it makes sense now ^^

  • lol me neither

  • this guys taught me a lot

  • Thanks for the tips

  • cheers

  • Would I be right in assuming heavier guage strings make this harder? I can do it fairly easy on the high strings but the lower ones are more difficult.

  • wow...i learned it and i took only 1 minute, thanks...

  • cool thanks i had no idea what a harmonic is... im fairly a noob

  • wow, that's a bit hard, sigh :D

    but I'll try.

  • now i know how to fuck the strings thx ;)

  • "To fuck the string"

  • Pluck it from behind :D

  • that was a good one XD

  • at 2:26 it sounds like he says "fuck the string" hahaha lol

    :P

  • my guitar teacher (3 years ago^^) had the same nails^^. i love your vids btw

  • when I first saw my classical instructor do that, I was like, "O_O NO WAY! HOW DID YOU DO THAT!?!" hahaha after he showed me, I said, "Damn, you made it look incredibly hard." hehe

  • thank ya man.. by the way nice nails :D

  • It is working for me but bearly any sound is coming out. Does this work best with an amp or may I be doing something wrong?

  • your touching the string too hard with your right hand, or not pressing hard enough with your left (assuming you're righty)

  • at 1:13, did he say "I'm fucking it?"

  • "i'm 'plucking' it"

  • lol i thought he said that as well

  • sir,ur really great, amazing and brilliant,i wish i could be like u wen i grow up,i'm kerby chan and i'm just 12 y/o,i started playing guitar wen i was 9,ur one of the best, sir.thnx for inspiring me.

  • guitarded have you checked out sungha jung? If not go check him out he's a 12y/o almost professional lol.

  • how do you get harmonics from a vibrato.

  • To others: whoever thumbs-downed the poor guy for a fair guitar question, you deserve a beating!

    To lastrebel415:

Not that hard, actually. See, you first do a harmonic, and then the LEFT (!) hand immediately does a vibrato. If you can get the sounds crisp and loud enough, you may even pull off a harmonic glissando, but that is hard without giving a faint sound of natural note. I'm still working on that one. The harmonic vibratos are simpler.

  • hahaha wow this guy isnt good at it at all... hes only playing half of the true harp harmonics. with real harp harmonis u use your right hand ring finger 2 pluck the 3 string up from the string ur using to harmonicate...Immediatlely!! i should post a vid of how 2 do this... if u really want 2 learn this watch tommy emmanuel play hes the best harp harmonics dude ive seen and i learned it watchin his vids

  • he plays classical guitar, it's kind of hard to play classical guitar without long finger nails, ass hole.

  • I do believe he was complimenting him

  • @1337pur3

    more like kind of impossible...

  • ass hole : D

  • Thanks for the video, it was really helpful

  • if you don't get the video, wouldn't that make YOU the retard

  • i didnt know you could get -8

  • what is that thing "tape" on the 17 fret all achostic guitarists have that????

  • harmonic pinching is pissing me off

cuz i cant get my thumb in the right place

  • dont give up and practice day and night and you get it

  • That's what I wanted to know. Good stuff! :)

  • i finally got it big thx ;)

  • you are a natural teacher ;)

    thanks for the lesson.

  • Is it 12 frets higher because that is half way down the string? (is it half way down the string?)

  • there's 21 frets on a guitar, 12 frets is one octave higher.

  • Ah, cheers mate :D

It does look half way down the string though, I mean from the nut to the bridge.
