Sammym2, you don't need to be arab to speak arabic. Many people feel to be arabs that do not speak arabic. You have to look the big picture: gepgraphy, history, and culture determine one to be arab or not. Uruba is an idea not a blood line. It is an aspiration and want. On the other hand, you have all the rights in the world to safeguard your Levint heritage. And yes, why not for a independent country for the Kurds, they desrve one like anyone else.

Lebanesearabdancer... Why, You-arabs- do not accept other opinions, that is another reason why i don't want to be arab, you are impolite, why do you have to say for example :shut up? I talked about my own identity, which has never been arab. Even my language was not arabic but Aramaic. You are leb arab, i'm not. If Elsafi sings that, it does not mean that we have to be arabs... My identity cannot be shared, either i'm lebanese or i'm not, but i don't want to be mixed...

@neveralone112 That was funny, but for your information,"ARAB" is not a race, it is a linguistic group,if you speak Arabic and live in that General area,you are an ARAB.
Aramiac is a dead language, there are no more "ARAMIANS" :).
to make it easy to understand I'll give you some examples:)
Russians,polish, Bulgarians, Serbs are all Slavs( the slavic linguistic group).
Italians,Romanians, French, Spanish, Portuguese are Latins,they speak a derivative of the dead LATIN, even Mexicans are Latins

@sammymm2 Thanks my friend for the clarification. But, if "Arab" is not a race but a linguistic group. So, i'm arab, french, english, german, Aramian, and a little bit greek. I do speak all these languages; so i have all these identities??? I think to be "arab' you need many elements, and one of them is the language, but the most important is the question of culture, way of life... I have nothing to share with the arab people. But i do love them, and i wish i'm an arab... but i'm not ;-)

If Arabs were a race, then you would not see all the different physical appearances amongst them, from the Negroid to the Caucasoid, Sudanese are Arabs, and Blond Lebanese are Arabs too:), what does that tell you?
You are right, a cultural trait must be shared, and there are a lot of common things amongst the Arabs ...
If you are in France, share the culture, the language, aspirations, then you are a French man:)

@sammymm2 My language is not arabic, it is Aramaic, and i was forced to speak arabic as the Algerians were forced to speak french, but they didn't become french and i didn't become arabic :-) Anyway, thanks for sharing your ideas... wish you the best

The transition from Aramaic to Arabic was smooth, in their ancient form, they were nothing but dialects of the same mother language which could have been the proto-Semitic language, in fact, even in the Levant, Arabic was part of the language mosaic, Levantenes traveled to Mecca to exhibit their poetry in Arabic at the Ukaz fair

@sammymm2 I do accept it as a polite exchange of 'thoughts' otherwise i wouldn't have answered :-) my question is : What are the elements of an arabic identity? once i know the elements constituting the arabic identity, then i'll be able to know if i'm arab or not. being from the Lebanon, i have Phoenicians ancestors, and after the arabic invasion we started to speak arabic, then french in 1919, and now english... lol it is complicated, thus, my identity is now ONLY Lebanese :-)(

By the way,Phoenicians and the Canaanites are one and the same as archeology proves,surprisingly,they all spoke a form of ancient Arabic,be it Syriac,Aramaic or even Hebrew, this is ARCHEOLOGY:)
The Levant was populated by migrations from the Arabian peninsula in 3 waves of migrations, therefore,we in the LEVANT were ARABS even before ISLAM.
I study Semitic origins and languages as a passion,I shy away from being"ARAB", but it's not up to me:).

What makes an Arab
common culture,common goals and aspiration,language amongst others.
If Syriac is your mother language, then you are not an Arab,the opposite is true
The Hebrew language has evolved separately from Arabic,and today it is an independent language,so Jews are not Arabs,unless their mother tongue is Arabic,then they are Arab Jews just like the Christin Arabs
In est Asia,the only major people who are not Arabs are the Kurds

@neveralone112 Of course, if your mother language is Aramaic, then you have not been Arabized, you are I suppose an Assyrian? or what we call in Arabic seian" .. you are not an Arab, just like the Kurd and other smaller minorities that exist within the Arab world .... at home, do you speak Aramaic? that is it, you are not an Arab, congratulation:).

Actually, I'm for protecting the Levant heritage through keeping Aramaic, Syriac alive by teaching them in specialized institutions, this is our heritage and we should protect it, I'm also for an independent state for the Kurds who have the right to their own state just as the Palestinian people.

I am sad to see more innocent people abused over and over again, but sadness will not help. violence is everywhere, even withing our families, siblings, parents and friends, video games, TV, internet. We hurt some1 each day, not even realizing it most of the times. when will humans b smart enough not to abuse themselves and others?!!!!

sopka, ur reply to my coments shows that u respect the opinion of others,however,it also seems that my choice of words were somehow confusing to u. injustice means violation of the rights of others, unjust or unfair action or treatment. and I believe thats whats happing in Gaza. As to me speaking from my emotins as a muslim, true but also im speaking this way because god gave me a conscience muslim or not.And like I said before"the only thing evil needs to prevail is for good men to do nothing"
