Just a little pointers: don't be so tense when you play. Just relax and enjoy what you are playing. To get a better tone, don't breathe through your nose, take breathes through the corner of your mouth to help you breathe from your diaphragm and to help you get more air in the horn. Practice your articulation. But keep playing tuba! Practice practice practice .

My advice, should you wish to accept it is: More air, Relax a bit more, tension is bad!! Regular practice, and in those moments of practice where you feel you're not getting anywhere, or you doubt your abilities, go on youtube an seek inspiration from professional players like Oystein Baadsvik, John Fletcher, Patrick Harrild, Roger Bobo, Carol Jantsch etc and remember, they had to go through the same experiences as you to get to where they are. Perserverence and love are key to practice.

Hey trick for a fellow tuba player. practice your breathing take a PVC pipe and cut it to a finger lenght. dont play the tuba but practicing breathing in with that. also get a straw when u breath out and breathe through the straw out. practice controlling your air that way. so breath in through the PZVC pip and out through the straw. (coffee straw size) put ur hand in front of the straw and feel the air on your hand controlling its flow. hope that helps.

I am a tuba player in advanced symphonic middle school band and I'd like like to say a few things

1)try to keep a full open sound

2)when hitting those high notes try to keep a firm omiture and a small opening

3) practice for at least 150 minuets a week (5 days 1/2 an hour each

Here's another tip for you, MORE AIR, never hurts really. In the course of my High School career I'm pretty sure I about doubled my lung capacity and its been a great help to my ability to play. And remember the tension in your lips should come from the sides never the center.

By more air I didn't just mean moving more air, I also mean't sustaining air flow longer. Never hurts to get more into your lungs whenever you can musically.

yes also she needs to use her diaphragm to play it will give a better tone more sustained air and all together strong i msyelf can overpower a 80 piece band but i choose not to it just depends on how strong you get your diaphragm
