i remember getting up for school in the morning years ago and i switched on the tv and there was bruce dickinson with a rack of swords on the big breakfast show showing chris eavens part of his mass collection of blades well that made my day and now i have a collection myself.

Bruce Dickinson is himself a World Class fencer (he has competed in international tournaments before) and wrote this song (along with The Duellists) about his passion. If you want to dispute any of this then do a little research and you will quickly find quotes directly from Bruce's mouth confirming this.

I stand corrected, Steve does have the credits for The Duellists. In any case, both songs were inspired by Bruce's love of fencing, and even though Bruce doesn't have credits for Duellists, I'm sure he will have drawn up the idea and had significant creative input in the song.

RE Religion: None of the band are religious aside from Nicko, who converted to christianity in 1999- 15 years before this album was released, hence clearly couldn't have had any influence on the writing of this song.
