@BrettTheiPhone I had my tonsils out right before the holidays, at the age of 23, and the docs aren't lying when they say that the procedure is worse as an adult...the side effects are more than just pain related. Plan on being out of commission for roughly 2 weeks and losing about 10 lbs. Best of luck though! It really makes a difference in your sleep habits since they also remove your adenoids. (totally for the better)

A lot of people are only thinking about strep, but sleep apnea can also be caused by tonsils. I had SA and had mine out at 30. You really will need AT LEAST 10 days before you'll be able to do anything. Trust me, I lived it. You get thousands of comments so I doubt you'll see this, but I feel better sharing what I know from my experience.

Dr's usually don't like to take out your tonsils unless you've had strep at least 6 times in one year, also, having your tonsils removed does not gaurantee that you'll never have strep again, it just reduces the chances.

I had tonsillitis THREE times in high school. Once I had to take up a bunch of finals on the same day instead of over the whole final week. Each time doctor said next time we'll take them out. GRRRR!!!!

I'm not surprised your Dr said he wouldn't be taking out your tonsils, it's a really big deal once you are older, and even now a days they are reluctant to take them out of kids. Even if the Dr. had said he'd take them you, you need pre-op blood work and a pre-op physical...both of which take a few days to coordinate. Do you have cryptic tonsils? Or do you just get tonsillitis a lot?

FYI: You can still get strep throat even if you don't have tonsils. You just have a real sore throat and there's a rash.
