People have to realize that the year before in the playoffs Baumgartner and the rest of the Islander thugs, jumped the Rangers in the final seconds of the game. Note the Rangers had no tough guys on the ice, and Baumgartner, Vukota, and some other toolbox were beating on little guys....They were suspended along with Al Arbour. This was the following year when the rangers went out and got tough guys and went out for revenge....this was a huge night for ranger fans that wanted the Islanders....

but it has to be taken in the context of the initial view..I was there, you were not and it set the tone for the game even though they had to stop it midway in the first because the ice sucked so bad...

I took my little brother to this game and we sat up in the 'blues'. The game was started late because the circus (Ringling Bros, not the Isles) was in town and the ice sucked worse than usual. Plus it was a rare Friday night game. Lots of fights in the stands before the game. This was also the only time I ever saw a fan get thrown out of a game during the singing of the National Anthem (he was off key, fat and drunk - in that order). Bum-gartner was a punk who never could handle Domi.
