A classic and HIGHLY underrated metal album! Thanks for this! I saw them when they opened for Queensryche and Dream Theater and was as stoked to see them as I was the other 2 bands and they delivered! Ray Alder is one of the greatest singers of his generation and does not get enough credit for it!
Can't believe I'm just finding out about this now - thanks Metal Blade for keeping this stuff coming. Fates Warning in my book are the fathers and still undefeated champs of prog metal - they built the bridge that all others since have crossed.
Fates Warning..man did they ever peak with Paralleles. Soundtrack to my high school career, tucked silk shirts into b;ack jordashe's even..damn, whhhhops!! lol.
yeah, they fizzled out..but I still champion them, there PS and Paralells era was truly revolutionary for metal/pop fusion. Shit, I thought Taylor Dane had gone hard...jean creaming stuff! Jordashe, that iss.
sweet, Parallels is one of my fave albums, although I like them all. I saw them a few times, including at the Mason Jar in Phx when they played the entire Pleasent shade of grey album. Is there ever gunna be any new material?
One of the greatest prog metal bands (and originators) of all time. Hard to believe James LaBrie sings backup on one of those tracks, before his debut with Dream Theater. Brings me right back to '91, when I heard Eye To Eye on Ian O'Malley's Metal Shop (WNEW).
Parallels album is one of my all time favorite. Hope I will reach Germany this summer to see this.
Too bad that after Parallels, FW changed their style to keep up with Those new progresive bands. I always miss this odlschool progresive metal from the first albums of FW and QR.
I just picked up two VIP tickets for the Hollywood, CA reunion show featuring the Parallels line-up!! VIP tickets get you early entry to the show and a Meet and Greet with the band!! Get yours now!!
I just got my two VIP Tickets as well!!This will be my first Fates Warning show,I can't wait:-)Driving from SLC,UT to see this great reunion show!YEAH!!!!
I am forever grateful that I accidentally downloaded the song Parallels on some program back in middle school. Been my favorite band ever since. If I would have to choose a favorite, it would be Awaken the Guardian just for Giants Lore. But I can't choose; a favorite band means I absolutely love all of their work. I can't wait to have this set
@chett005 Are you kidding?! I mean, John Arch was a great singer but Ray is much more conducive to their sound... Arch's voice was not very broad. Ray's is very broad & fits the musick perfectly... Parallels is FW most "commercial" cd but still a damn good one...
HUGE Fates fan, first same them opening for Dream Theater on their Awake tour in Dallas. It's great that FW is doing something as a band again. Now if they would just get back in the studio!!!!
This is definitely one of the most important prog rock albums of all time. It is pure magic from beginning to end. When I first discovered this album about 7 or 8 years ago, I fell in love and still feel the same about it today.
Looking forward to this re-release, especially the DVD. A great way to celebrate such an amazing, perfect piece of music. One of the most amazing albums from any band in any genre.
I'm really looking forward to this package but I'm concerned the mastering will be a brickwalled mess like many metal remasters. I think I'll wait until people comment on the quality.
The summer/fall of '91 were a pretty magical time. You had The Black Album and Use Your Illusion. You had Ten and Nevermind. You had Crystal Pepsi, Super Nintendo, and Terminator 2. And you had Parallels. Nirvana got the headlines, but Fates changed my little 12 year old life the most. Boy am I glad Ray Alder didn't blow his head off with a shotgun.
@drdapsoy great post! Yes, it was a great time. I remember I was with my first girlfriend, in my 20's, 280ZX and renting a house and getting ready to do a "solo" guitar record... my how things change!
I still remember reading that this album was written about the relationship of the Bass player and his wife. great melodic stuff going on here and everyone should pick this up!
@drdapsoy I've always said that 1990-1993 was the greatest period for metal. The black album, Qryche/Empire, Skid Row/Slave..., Crue/Feelgood, Great White/Hooked, Megadeth/Countdown..., Dream Theater/Images...., Guns N Roses/Illusion, Nirvana, AIC, Savatage/Edge of Thorns, JP/Painkiller, and of course Parallels. And that's only scratching the surface!!!
It's in our job description! Either way, we're glad people care enough to comment. Usually comments from metal heads are more intelligent than pop fans, but hey, nobody bats 1.000!
This is one of the most important albums in prog metal. James Labrie from Dream Theater does guest vocals on the song "Life In Still Water". Know your metal history!

This album was amazing although you can't deny the very strong Queensryche influence. Maybe they wanted to make their own Empire with this one.
The album after this, Inside Out, is even more sublime and beautiful than Parallels.
Its a masterpiece. Just listen to "Island in the Stream" or "Pale Fire."

Wow! That´s great news!
It would be perfect if they decided to record a new album with the parallels line-up after the reunion tour.
That would be a dream come true!

I like all Fates Warning albums! I can stand whatever album from them, but I have to admit that my favorite is "Awaken the Guardian".
