  • u should play more and speak less :L

  • it frustrates me that there is nothing on the internet that just tells you the damn chord shapes and maybe the lyrics and chord changes. i am a guitar player and am used to just playing chords and singing. i dont want to learn the chord names and i dont want to play the melodey over top of it. i just want to sing and play and make music.

  • You hit a great key note there about playing how you sing but should also be used in whats heard. Sheet music players are easy to spot. I mainly play by ear and have to spend hours deciphering sheet music and write it so I can understand it (you'd think I would have learned by now from all that work aye?) Anywho, my point being that I applaud all efforts of everyone on youtube that does tutorials but most teach wrong because they fear straying from what's on paper and not what they hear. Thanks!

  • thank you for this! i've been looking everywhere for a tutorial just focusing on the chords 'cause personally i think that this is best sung with just the chords softly playing while the person sings. so cheers to you pianoguytv!

  • Hey scott,

I bought your Play piano in a flash! book and in Chapter 5 you say to go get some music and make a chord diagram of all the chords in the tune. But the music i got has chords that weren't described in the book. like best of my love by the eagles. The chord signatures say Dm9 and Dm7. i'm not sure how to make those chords. Theres more songs that have chords like Bm11 and F#

  • @ChrisWooleyAC The Dm7 is (in root position) d-f-a-c add an e on top to make the Dm9.

You need to find a resource like a chord dictionary that will have everything listed in there. You can find a good inexpensive book titled the ultimate keyboard Chord Guide (or something similar) on my website under the "Chord Finder" category on the left.

The good news is that you are at a point where you need to know these more advanced chords. Good for you!

  • How Long - Paul Carrack
