Nice GP, I have a '76 myself. I want to ask you where do you get your restoration parts, Im having trouble finding them online. Ive looked at different sites but nobody seems to have Interior parts.
@HeroSavage Hey, Hero! Congrats on owning one...unfortunately, I don't own this one...did have a 79 at one time. Hemmings Motor News seems to be a good source of parts, you might also try ebay autos for the parts yo need. I figure you don't have trouble with engine or other major mechanical parts, but more problems with trim and interiors, and body parts. Thanks! :) Jack
WOW! An absolutely stunning car, Jack, these and the '77 LeMans are some of my favourite cars of all time :D ... I knew at some point, we'd start seeing real beauty's such as this showing up in just as immaculate a condition as a lot of the more current collectable '50s & '60s cars! It's so nice to see these late 70's cars (and thankfully, I've seen a few recently) popping up at shows in as factory fresh condition as this & being admired by other collectors & enthusiasts! I Love it :D
@drewerz01 Thanks, Mike! I agree..unfortunately some car show have rules that exclude these beauties...I can see the point perhaps in limiting shows to old cars..but I think a late 70's car certainly qualifies as eminently show worthy! Thanks! :) Jack
Love the two toning, especially the way the did it on the hood. Those colors make this mid-priced car look like a luxury car and that grill just demands attention.
@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Exactly...the two tone paint on the hood draws attention to the character lines in it....almost makes it a sculpture! Pontiac knew how to use the signature split grille to its advantage! Thanks!
Beautiful '77 GP. Just over 288,000 '77 GP's of all variants were built. Buyers had 3 engine choices, the standard 301, a 350 (built by various GM divisions) or a 400. SJ offered "sporty luxury", LJ was oriented towards luxury. The plaque above the radio announces the vehicle is equipped with "Radial Tuned Suspension". Pontiac dealers would install, upon request, a revised sealing kit for owners experiencing leaking T-roofs. Body color accents on the rally wheels is rare, most were "argent".
@jferg7159 Hey, Joe! Thanks for the particulars on this! T-roofs looked so sexy..but in reality, could be a world of problems. Pontiac surely appeared to have all the bases covered with their suspension and engine choices.
@jferg7159 The LJ model came standard with the Body color accents on the Rally wheels. I had a 77 LJ with the 400 4 barrel and it would smoke um. My first car at 16 was a Demo, a 1976 Grand Le Mans. They called it the baby Grand Prix. It had the GP inside, the dash and the RTS. It listed for 5900.00 in 1976. Factory 8 track, Tilt wheel, and the Rally Gauge package and the Rally II wheels. It had the factor A/C, loved the car. Wished I had kept it.
@JesseAndMike Hey, guys...this is the top of the line with all the stops pulled out...other GP's of this vintage are fairly common...what's uncommon is the factory fresh condition of this one! Thanks! :) Jack
@brians09challenger Hey, Brian! This definitely was top of the line! And you may very well be right about the 8 track slot! It's funny how car paint colors have a run of popularity..then suddenly disappear. I remember how popular a metallic orange was back in the mid 70's....green used to be really big in the 50's! Where are they now? :D Thanks! :D Jack
@midnitesquirldog Hey, Pauly! It may have a 400 c.i. engine...that was an optional engine for it. Sorry I didn't see what was under the hood. Thanks! :) Jack
Hello Jack...My next younger brother had probably a year older..triple black..it was a beautiful car..bought it for thier first anniversary, it was used then..but immaculate..black vinyl roof, black paint, black interior...buckets, no t-tops..it was an elegant machine..I have a 2000 G.P with 130000 miles on it..Soon the twins will be done with college..and I will be looking for that 63 olds holiday coupe I want so much..wish id have kept that car all those years ago....thanks for posting.
@55points Glad your brother, you and your family had the opportunity to experience this great car! Sounds like you made the GP a family tradition! I had a 79 that gave many years of faithful service! Now that Olds Holiday sounds perfect...I know the feeling of wishing you had saved the car when you had it..but trust me, the car you want is out there somewhere! Good hunting! Thanks! :) Jack
Loved these Crush velour interiors. Just so damn comfy. I still remember the commercials on TV advertising these Grand Prix's. This particular model with the options here must of cost a pretty penny in 77. Thanks Jack for that look back.
@gene978 Hey, Gene! Yes indeed...and it seemed they wore better than perforated vinyl..much more luxurious too! A friend of mine had one like this..unfortunately, the rust devils got to it! Regular Grand Prix $5701, LJ $6064, SJ $6334, all prices West Coast USA. Thanks! :) Jack
Very nice looking Pontiac! My uncle used to a '77 SJ in the late 90s... Blue, with a blue vinyl top, t-tops, and deluxe interior, gauges, with a console.. He restored it in the mid 90s, and everybody called him crazy, and said they never thought they would be worth much.. Maybe they still aren't that sought-after yet, but soon enough they will be classics..
@Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! I think your uncle used great judgment when he bought the car, and when he restored it!! This car has class! No one can match those lines and the great two tone paint scheme! Believe me, they are classics in my book! Thanks! :) Jack
@Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Yes indeed....this car has had excellent care...you see it occasionally here, and when I see it, I like to video it! Thanks! :) Jack
I want it!!!! I want it!
