  • He's adorable :'D

  • it looks like hes on pcp

  • this almost made me brux. you have to own a rat to understand.

  • I love Lucas, he is sooo cute! My favorite video is the one of him attacking your cat!! If I ever get a rat, I'm going to name him Lucas after your rat :)

  • so incredibly adorable! he's so happy :D

  • HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY RAT!!!

  • I've never seen such exceptional bruxing and boggling! Now THAT is a cnotented ratty!

  • that is one happy rat

  • He likes his life! :D

  • my rats never did this not even once.

  • @YogiToad Well your rat hated you then.

  • why he does that :o so cute :D

  • You morons going on about the plague....The plague is spread trhough the fleas NORWAY rats carry.

    These are DOMESTIC rats.

    idiots.

It's the equivalent of wolfs:dogs. Would you keep a wild flea ridden wolf in your house? No, but a poodle is quite fine.

Same here. This is not a Norway Rat, but it is a very sweet natured, HOODED RAT.

  • I'm afraid you're incorrect. Most pet rats are of the race rattus norvegicus, or the brown rat. The rat that supposedly carried the fleas that spread the plague were black rats, or rattus rattus. "Hooded rat" is not a breed, it's just the name for the coat pattern.

  • yea, its a coat colour....the coat colour of the domestic rat featured in this video.

In the end, whatever you call wild rats. It's still not the same as a domestic rat. It doesn't carry the same health hazards anymore than a dingo, wolf, coyote ect does compared to a poodle.

But thank you for the info ;) (off to research some more, since I had my facts a little wonky)

  • In Europe the wild rats are most commonly brown rats nowadays as they are more powerful than the black rats and take over their territories. Hence, the pet rat and the wild rat are in fact the same species, and they have the same latin name. However, as you pointed out, there is always a difference between a domestic animal and it's wild counterpart. Pet rats do not carry the diseases that wild rats do, although a domestic rat that has been turned wild will of course carry the same diseases.

  • The fear of rats is something that can be compared with the fear of snakes. It was useful a very long time ago but has ceased to be useful in our modern society - but the brain has failed to catch up. Birds spread a lot of diseases but few people have a high level of contempt for birds. It's just the mind that is messing with us.

  • Ok, I suppose I can understand that...But the reaction to snakes is one of fear; the reaction to rats is one of ignorance.

Plus, I have had very bad experiences with people who are not afraid, just ignorant and mean hearted.

  • Some people are genuinely afraid of rats. For some reason, the tail (without the hair) seems to scare people. Odd really, considering that we humans are almost completely without hair in comparison.) But yes, there are loads who are just ignorant, and that is just incredibly sad.

  • true, but again its the ignorance not the geniune fear that pisses me off.

Yea, what is it about the tails? I love letting Max run his tail around and down my finger, it feels so neat.

  • Yeah, don't get it with the tails either. They're surprisingly warm actually! I keep thinking my rats have a fever or something. :) Plus they actually DO have hair on their tails, it's just extremely short. Cute little buggers. :)

  • surprising amount of strength in their tails as well. When max feels my fingers playing with his tail, he twines it around my finger and walks forward, so it runs down the length of my finger, than he backs up and bumps me with his butt to do it again, lol.

  • So very intelligent. Especially since the plague was air-born... Oh never mind, why am I bothering with explaining... silly me... oh well...

  • hahahaa yourr rat is amazingg..(:

  • Rats boggling is a sign on contentment, hes so happy :)

  • aww! such a happy little rat

  • They make this noise when they're annoyed, excited OR content... I guess it's obvious that this cute guy is a very happy rattie. :)

  • Aye he seems rather content, else he woulden't be bruxing let alone boggling.

  • nice. I find my rats do that when they are happy. Pet a rat 4 a while and it will make clicking noises.

  • That is adorable! Can I steal him?

  • Aww how cute. My Rat is so lazy hes always yawning but never yawns on camera lol

  • i love it when my rats do that... I tried to videotape it but my cam sucks lol

  • The way he boggles his eyes is so weird...

But he's still cute. I mean look, he's yawning!

  • Just a theory, but I think they do it to clear their sinuses or something.

    I'm not kidding.

  • lmao, i've never seen the eyes do that before! our little ratties bruz, but their eyes don't pop in and out ^^;

  • rat yawns are precious! boggling makes an otherwise sane-looking rat seem possessed...

  • I can do that! I might get my owner to tape me doing it! :D

  • How adorable!!! They look so innocent when they yawn too! haha. CUTE!!

  • yeah your guy is cute as too!!! So cute when he yawns hehe

  • that is so scary with the eyes!!!
