The danger is that the producers delay the flying and suit so long that the ratings dry up and the show doesn't get renewed for season 18. Then we'd have the hilarious situation where clark doesn't actually achieve his destiny.
Clark has been able to fly twice as I recall, the show was not "over". They have had time, and they squandered it. Smallville is like an old puppy one wants to put down, but everyone tolerates anyway, feeding it scraps of food every once and awhile and just pretending the puppy was never there, whining for attention and care. Why is this show still around? Superman never required this long of an origin, all Batman needed was ONE movie (I exclude TDK, it was crap origin-wise).
