Question. What's the story here? What is the name of the hot blonde actress in the beginning? Is that really his sister (?!!!??). Was that just a cover in front of the other woman?
So I've almost finished season 2 vol 1. They're skimping a bit, filming some scenes in L.A., using back-drop projection for some driving scenes :( Dan still manages to get confused driving up & down the Strip. "Yeah Bea, I'm going Downtown" as he heads south. Not a lot of Tony Curtis, but plenty of Dan & old Vegas.
Whats ironic is that Robert Urich & Josh Duhammel look alike. Both in a show called Vegas....wild stuff! Thats the sickest Vette & love the T-Bird too. Is it Me or does all that 70s music remind Ya of porno music??? LOL
I remember riding with my mom to pick up my half-sister from work at the Hilton one morning and seeing them shooting the show. I always loved to see it on TV.
I had the pleasure to meet Robert Urich when I watched them film on location at Desert Springs Hospital here in Vega$. He was a true gentleman. He went out of his way to give autographs. He'll truly be missed!!
Robert Urich defined the Cool in cool long before anyone new what it was, and for that we should all be thankful. So Thank you Robert, you are not only a gentleman, but one cool dude!! We will remember you always.
I used to lovr this show. I espacially loved the opening theme music. And Phyllis Davis (Bea) was so so hot.. And Urich's real life wife, Heather Menzies was in 2 episodes.
Talk about paying your dues. I never realized Michael Mann wrote the pilot to "Vegas." I do remember Dan Tanna's from the climax, though, when he's confronting Michael Lerner: "I'm the Lone Ranger, and I'm gonna bust you."
Dian Parkinson, from the Price Is Right, appears in the Pilot episode. In the opening credits of the Vegas tv show, she is the blond woman kissing Tanna...
@kkirves I always wondered who the blonde was in the opening credits. I had a huge crush on Dan Tanna, so I was always jealous of her :) Thanks for letting me know who she was.
The Maxim was the "Home" hotel in this show pilot..The regular weekly series had the "D.I." or Desert Inn as the home hotel...
I have some photos I took in 1983 of Urich's "home", which was located behind the First Interstate Bank, just north of Circus Circus...
Both Urich and co star Greg Morris both bough houses in las Vegas, and continued to live there (at least part time) after the series ended..Morris died in Las Vegas in 1996.
Wow I hit 5:07 the end of the video and forgot I was watching youtube and not the real show which I have not seen for 30 yrs (more more).....maybe it's out on DVD?
I agree with the comments. This was a great cult classic show. Mr. Urich was Mr. Television in so many ways. The Vegas of yesteryear was great. Now its an overbuilt, ugly mess like a couple people here have pointed out. Robert died way to young. Thanks for posting this!
Robert Urich was a great actor and a blessed human being.
I loved him in Vega$, The $25,000 Pyramid with Bill Cullen and The $20,000 Pyramid with Dick Clark, he was also on Match Game and Password Plus, and I also enjoyed him on Spenser for Hire as well as National Geographic Explorer, but most of all, I really enjoyed on S.W.A.T. and I have the complete 1st Season on DVD and his wife Heather Menzies was on Logan's Run The Series w/Gregory Harrison of Trapper John M.D.
I agree- He had a stellar career both in TV and on the big screen. He died way too young- Sadly, I read recently that Phyllis Davis has cancer as well.
Looked high and low for this, Mr Dan Tanna... The music alone takes me back to my weekly bath and drying out in front of TV on a Saturday night watching Vega$ as a kid at 7pm. Looking at Michael Mann being involved and then Miami Vice. Those were the days. Lovin it all... That Spelling chap was a Genius in the 70-80's.
We need another TV series shot in Vegas--unfortunately all we have now is "CSI". There must be only 7 of the old strip casinos left--Tropicana, Sahara, Riviera, Circus Circus, Flamingo, Caesar's Palace, and Hilton.
what happened to phylis davis, she was 1 of sexiest women i`ve ever seen! when the show was shown on bravo in the mid 90`s i was 14,and she made me so horny!
You can follow Phylis' career via the Internet Movie Database. Suffice to say, she was in the final series of Magnum a decade after VEGA$. Her role was a big one, being Rick's wife-to-be. They married in Magnum's final episode; actually the final/closing scene of the final episode. Oh yes, still quite a woman. Well done Phylis.
Yep, this was a fun show-I have some photos of my friends and me at Tana's "house", which was still there, next to Circus Circus, in 1983...It had to be much easier to shoot there then than now...note in the series Tana's car was switched to a red Thunderbird...Tana's charadter is based on still working LV detective Eddie LaRue...
This brings back so many memories; thanks for the posting of the video clip. I used to watch this show every single week, and as a kid, I was completely mesmerized by the "shiny and bright lights" of Vegas. I actually lived in Las Vegas for 10 years starting in the early 90s and I just laugh when I see how "underdeveloped" Vegas was back in Dan Tanna's time (mo mega resorts, just the old Dunes, Maxim, and the Riviera -- when the Riv still looked great).
This was an awesome series. They pioneered the use of bright colors and loud fashions way before overrated and so boring Miami Vice. It's true. When I was a kid, I couldn't sit through it without falling asleep. Whereas, I stayed up much later for Vega$ and was completed enthroled in the colors, characters and fast-moving storyline. Made me wanna drive down LV Blvd at night real slow with the theme playing like Dan does at the end of each show!
Thank you for putting this up. I was a great fan of this series when I was 11yo on Friday nights at 9pm on LWT. Absolutely brilliant!! The theme tune is just awesome. I just wish they put this on DVD. This was an awesome series not like the crap of today!
The Strip as we remember it. A bow to the Dunes, the Flamingo, and Fremont Street before it became the Fremont Street Experience, (which is good), but this is Las Vegas as we remember it.
Here's a fact: the milk that the milkman delivered, "Anderson's", is a real-life milk brand produced in Vegas, and still exists today. The lot where Tanna lived is where the Guinness Book of World Records place stands today (behind the Arby's).
Anderson dairy is a real one here too bad all of the old casinos are gone..
