Wow! I just read the comments on this movie. Seems like I wasn't the only high school teacher to think this movie would help students understand the period of the French Revolution. Why Sink Me if I am not amazed!! You young folks out there absolutely continue to make me feel proud to have been a teacher. Why, I was tying my Cravat when I read your notes and had to start all over again! Sink Me! There's hope for our education system yet!
This version is "OK" but the original was sooooo much more sarcastically better! That was filmed in 1934 with Sir Leslie Howard as the Foppish Pimpernel -- who, in real life (Sir Leslie, that is) was a secret agent for the British intelligence service and who was killed in World War Two whilst on a mission for MI6, when his airplane was shot down by the Nazis. If you read the original book by Baroness Emma Orczy, which is available for free download from the Gutenberg Project, you'll be hooked!
I was a film extra in this film,( An Aristocrat ) and recall that a good bit of it was filmed at Ragley Hall.I have plenty of photos to prove the point albeit only one of myself.( I was taking all the photos you see).I have a few of Anthony Andrews and a few of Jane Seymour, as well as one or two of The Marquess of Hertford and his family. I was actually talking to The Marquess of Hertford's daughter when we we not being filmed, and we were standing together in the Ballroom scene.
They seek him here, they seek him there. Those Frenchies seek him everywhere ! Is he in heaven or is he in hell? That damned elusive pimpernel!" - from now on if people tell me to do a poem. I'm doing this one! <3
Lol i took AP Euro and my teacher is anal about the french revolution. and we learned so much that we understood every little line and why they said it lol
I remember watching this when I was in 4th grade. I learned the poem and recited to my class and they blushed when I said "hell", thanks for posting:)) truly classic. Not to mention, I used to walk around an act like Percy, I thought he was so cool :))

Oh my goodness. How camp is this. The book, in comparison, is a mixture of modern feminist literature and Mills & Boon bodice ripper.

His drawl is so gay (not homosexual) and pompous. It's sort of annoying yet extraordinarily humorous.
