That was back in the day when I was a young man listeing to REAL music...I feel sorry for the contemporay generation that thinks they are listening to music which is rude, condicending, rash, violent, rudamentery, scornfully and condescendingly proud! Rappers really fit this profile!
The "gay myth" is just that. Stuff of legend, that was never true, but has festered into gay culture folklore, even winning a libel lawsuit against New York magazine who perpetuated the rumor in the 90s.
@paulryan44 She betrayed us. Gays made her career, then she "discovered Jesus." Suddenly, being gay was an abomination. Now that her carer is in the dumps, she is once again ok with being gay. Too late, traitor bitch. I mean that in the nicest possible way. Still, nice version of the song. I also like Jon & Vangelis version.
@bjbinmke i so loved this response. Its exactly what i knew and meant. My fave line was after you got all bitter about the whole gays are an abomination bit you finished off by going - gtray song tho, love the jon and vangelis version too ! Love ya - where do you live - lets be ftiends !!!
The 12 inch vinyl promo lists everybody and his mother on this classic: Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Michael McDonald, Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, among others. The flip side of the 12 inch has a song written by Bruce Springsteen, and he plays guitar on it! How much did this album cost??
I think Quincy Jones (the producer) knew what he was taking on by covering this track in respect of the original composers: Jon & Vangelis. As a massive fan of Vangelis and a big fan of Jon Anderson all I can say is that this cover is an utterly sublime and superlative rendition of this piece and can completely stand on its own merit. Absolute and humble respect to the genius of Quincy Jones, Donna Summer and all concerned.
No words can do justice in describing this out of the cosmos piece of musical genius. This song is dripping with infectious emotion. its soul stirring. the progression is unbelievable and the melody nothing short of haunting. Only Donna Summers could have done justice to this song. Its such a forgotten classic. unleashes a floodgate of memories.
The meaningful and profound words of Vangelis and Jon Anderson; Quincy Jones' cadenced rhythm arrangements, and the magnificent voice of Donna, makes this song a delight for the ears...
@brujis08 The keyboards sound like Vangelis, Sounds kind of Karaoke. But i've never heard this version, I've been a long time fan of the Vangelis and Jon Anderson version. I am very impressed!
@Mustanghands I could say this version sounds better than Jon and Vangelis one. It was of course produced to be released as a single after "Love Is In Control" in mid 1982
@hammertoejoe It's a nice thought that this version puts coin in Jon's and Vangelis' pockets... just kiddin' :) However, the arrangement is very true to Jon and Vangelis' original, except with Donna Summer's vocal and a few other slight differences. Nice cover by Donna, Quincy Jones, et al.
II Have been looking for this piece of musical history for years. It disappeared from the musical landscape and poor version by another disco artist surfaced, This song would have launch Donna Summer's out of the shallow disco world music into the another musical sphere. Thank you, for posting it.

Different Donna!! This must have been a pretty radical departure for her. A song
that really has something to say. Brilliant arrangement. Probably didn't get the recognition it so richly deserved.

@opera888able It got tons of recognition in the bars and disco's of the 80's. Gay people made this lady what she is, just like Bette Middler.
