misplaced cambodians from the vietnam war, just for the record. thanks dickless nixon, cia, kennedy, johnson and the old evil war criminal kissinger, may he rot in hell.
This is just an unbelievable live performance ... I have no words to describe the gorgeous feeling that I've in me when I hear this ... You're one of my favourite artist Jamie. Hope you'll can continue to give us more amazing compositions like this !
The definition of a good song, in my opinion, is a song that captures an emotion or a feeling. The definition of an amazzing song is a song that goes beyond this; a song that captures a lifetime and the complexety of the person who lived it. This song does that. In a few lines, a couple of minutes, you get the essense of Clint's role in Gran Torino. This is such a beautiful score; very real and with a brilliant simplicity. Jamie, this is incredible!
I sit here 20 min. after playing the song and tears are still rolling down my face. The melody haunts me. It brings up in me emotions that feel like Sunday afternoons, neatly mowed lawns and wonderfully bittersweet moments of childhood memories frozen in time and of the longing to feel them once again. I tip my hat to you, Clint, for going out with such grace and to you, Jamie, for your humility and compassion. The world is nothing more than all the tiny things you've left behind. Thank you.
NOPE you do not know how good you really are and if you keep your head on straight your going to be around a long long time because you stick out like a sore thumb with all the untalented TRASH making so call "Music" today....
Gran Torino is a true classic, and this song fits it beautifully; watch the movie again, and listen to how the theme and melody is established early one, so that when the final credits come, it's already subconsciously engrained.
At the end of the movie when they play this song they are driving on Belle Isle a great place on the Detroit river where I have fomd memories and this song only makes them fonder
@frank66302 Thanks Frank. I only hear bad things about Detroit but this beautiful song coupled with that movie scene and your comments give me a different perspective.
Just a beautiful song. JC is very talented, as someone else said, this guy writes, sounds great live yet makes a lot of his music sound like its the 2nd or 3rd time he's played it and still appears to be humbled and slightly in awe of the appreciation he s shown. A perfect example of how simplicity can have as much an effect as a complex interpretation, of which JC does equally well.
This song should have won the Oscar that year. The snobs would have never given it to a Clint Eastwood movie, but Jamie really deserved it. So fitting for the movie, so fitting for a lot of our lives.
@eliasfvaldes i agree elias,it touches you on so many levels and musically, this song doesn`t follow the normal pattern of a song,i`m not an expert at all on music theory,i even i can tell,it is written differently from how most songs are written, someone who knows music theory could explain it better, but i bet i`m right.i`m no pussy, but i`m not ashamed to say i cried too.lol
Beautiful song. Truly gifted artist. Clarity of thought. Makes it look effortless. Thank you for this wonderful song. And, for sharing your artistic process.
Wow, we have seen the movie and it is amazing our children haven't! . We have always loved him but our children 4,11,and 12 are convinced Jamie is a god we have two more 10 and 13 who are more into xfactor! Only our 11 and 12 year olds attended the concert in Geneva and they loved it listening to this interview they are even more impressed and we are going to make more of an effort to let our four year old play our piano!!!!
Jamie, I don't think even you understand just how amazing this is. Maybe many years from now you will pull it out, play it, and understand that this is one of the best scores that has ever been recorded! Great movie, and you wrapped it up in such a smooth and real song. Keep it up, Kid!!!
yes, maybe you are right - but some few people are fare beyond other ones - he must be one of these ! this is something where I can not hold back tears - not only bcs it´s sad ... it´s ...different
Wow... What an artist. Great songwriter...great movie...and GREAT song. Perfect song for one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. Truly magical. Thanks guys...
In case you don't know, I'm one of the ACTUAL actors from the movie. The name's Elvis Thao. I played one of the gangmembers. Haha. Didn't expect that, did you? I actually performed this song live once also. I really like it and it's good you do too. I hope you like the movie just as much.

@whiteskinlab STFU, he just Stated that "Gran Torino didn't rhyme with a lot of great things." stating that Filipino isn't bad.. he could be saying that Filipinos are great.. no need to get your tampons in a bundle! :)
@whiteskinlab He wasn't discriminating against you man. He meant it from an artistic standpoint. Honestly, could you imagine him rhyming Gran Torino with Filipino during the song? It would have been dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. I think you took it a bit too seriously. All it was was him saying that it was a terrible thing to put into a song about a movie focused around Koreans in an American neighborhood. Nothing racist there, buddy.
@tctk1 Please try to find happiness, if this is your way to find joy by stealing it from others, then you must look elsewhere!!! Uness! You simply enjoy being laughed at! Poor pitiful soul!!! Shame on me for giving you so much of my time!!!
Clint Eastwood is the real genius; he provided the theme and all... (i think he's responsible for the theme for Mystic River too). This guy, Jamie Cullum, didn't do anything spectacular with what was given to him, and his voice (on this song, at least) aint that great either.
I'm an old hippie, graduated H.S in 1969. seen and heard everyone from The Beatles to Miles Davis and I must say that Jamie Cullum is the present and the future of great music.
I've seen Jamie live and it was one of the best live performances I've seen. He's fun, creative and very talented. He's coming back to LA this month (July) and it will be a real treat to see him again in a 1200 seat outdoor theater. This guy has much more to give the music world. Looking forward to it!
all thought Jaime met well... or maybe his american english n culture wasn't taken well... but right or wrong america was founded of diversity! never the less the movie n theme song is moving!!!
@czarssalad Very simple. They didn't want to give homage to Clint's brilliant performance. The racism in the film that only a great man with balls like Clint can do. It is a film that will be looked back on years from now as a pure masterpiece because, I believe, we are going to "politically correct" ourselves into self destruction. Period.
@czarssalad What the Oscars nominate and vote for is irrelevant. Many great and memorable films were over-looked at the time of their release, but are now classics. Time and age of great films are the true judges. Will a film be remembered 20 years from now? If it's worth it, yes.
This guy is talented and young, so I'll forgive his factual lapses. 1) The Hmong hill tribe people were not from Korea, they were from Laos. They came to the US after the Vietnam War, not the Korean War. 2) Eastwood's character was not inherently racist. He barked a lot, but ultimately believed in justice and rewarding virtue, despite color. If his character had been racist he would have elevated his idiot white son, but instead he saw value in his Hmong neighbors and took a bullet for them.
What's great about this guy is he is a genuine artist! Composes his own music, sings fantastic live, plays his own accompaniment and has infused fragments of other style into his own and he is just unique!

Hey there!
I'm a 14-year-old girl and I have a dream:
No, I don't want to be a famous singer yet, but
I want to share my music with you and maybe I can inspire some people.
Maybe there are some other piano players and singers out there who have the same dream as me.
They play and sing with passion and with heart, the same as I do. And they want to inspire other people and give a little love to them :)
Or they want to get inspired.
Anyways, I would be so happy if someone would listen to my music
