  • i want to get one..but theres something about just having a book and holding it..and that new book smell...hmmm any sugestions?

  • I want to get a Kindle, but I'm not sure if I should go for 2 or DX. I like the overall size of the 2, but I'm afraid the little screen is quickly going to feel too small. Does the 6" really feel comfortable to read on ? Do Kindle have internal links in the books ? Can you click from the TOC/index register to certain pages ? I'm not reading novels, but want it for huge learning books.

  • hahaha...imagine listening to audio reading that sounds like Stephen Hawkings...the 10th version will sound like Morgan Freeman....I want the one with Russell Crowe voice...

  • @AstronomyGuru1 like taking in any other form of media in the dark, it's a little more immersive. I still read books in the dark with a booklight and it's much easier to get pulled into the book when there's no other clutter in your peripheral vision. Horror stories are particularly more effective, as to be expected. I'm not saying it's vast difference, as any good book will pull you in regardless of where you are, but reading in the dark certainly has its effects.

  • the kindle sucks i want to chuck it at the ground and hit it with a hammer get the ipad and save ur selves from misery its so stupid ipad does so much more than the stupid kindle

  • The page flashing black after every button push seems like it would be maddening.

  • Wait... it only downloads Amazon product?

  • Actually the coolest feature is the Internet fuction, where I can even access facebook! And for those who want a backlight: that's what gives you eyestrain in the first place, cuz it's like reading off of a computer screen which is EXACTLY what Amazon was trying avoid.

  • @purpleshamrock17 your right a backlight would strain the eyes.

  • what? The voices are bit mechanical but Amazon claims people get used to them?! that's a lame explanation...

  • can you purchase textbooks on this

  • I'm honestly surprised that it doesn't have a backlight. I mean, that's one of the major pains with reading an actual book in bed.

It otherwise seems like a solid device. If you want a computer, get a netbook, if you want an ereader, get a kindle. If you want to be a massive faggot with a giant iPhone (shitty touch screen keyboard, no flash, limited software, basically a joke computer etc) then get an Ipad.

  • Yay, more shades of GREY! Are you kidding me? That is PATHETIC!!! Just get an iPad. Anyone with a kindle is a dork and a loser.

  • @likethepear

Not many books has or need color. And kindle2 could be on for weeks.

  • @likethepear LMAO and everyone with a big iPod is what? cool? lol go take a picture oh wait, oh well just go to hulu...oh shit wait.... oh well at least you can check your email and get online but not all the websites you say?!?!?! and the battery dies fast?!?!? DAMN you are right at least you have something that you can just....hmmm Check your email and play some cooooool games and ya follow underage girls on twitter.... Sweet dude!!!!

  • I have my K2 and I love it! I have read so many free books, both new and public domain that I think the cost of the K2 is totally worth it. You can also get books from other sites too, you are not just confined to Amazon. Feedbooks, Manybooks, Smashwords and Beanbooks are all places you can get books. Either direct download from wispernet or onto your computer and add them to your device with the USB cord.

  • @anit1983 Where do you get the free books?

  • Books being $3-10 is a bit high to me.

If I can't get books cheaper than at a local bookstore, I am not going to spend hundreds for a device like this.

  • @ORCA4312 you can buy books cheaper than $3? where do you shop at? at the 5 finger discount store?

  • @comrade86 Used book stores.

The cost of distribution for this product's material has to be WAY lower for data than for hard copy versions.

  • The 6" screen is a joke. The 10" Kindle should have been the standard.

  • argggg i want one so bad but can't make up my mind...

  • Search New York Times for "Amazon Erases Orwell Books From Kindle"

  • They should give us (people outside the us) the same options as the people who live n the us. I am getting one but i mean come on.

    Racist kindle bitches.

  • I don't get why everyone wants a back light, you want the kindle to be like a book as much as possible, so get a book light, or just use a light like you would with a normal book

  • I agree, besides it would take a lot of battery life, and it would have to be like a laptop screen if you wanted a backlight, and that would ruin your eyes.

  • @livelaughlove084 sometimes you dont have light, or room for a book light... I dont want to go into details but at my job, few hours to spare and no room and dark... LOL i hate my job. It would be nice to have an option for the back light, its not for everyone but it is VERY useful for someone who really needs it.

  • Kindle is cool, but there are much better options if you live outside the US.

The additional charges added to books, the huge number of books not for sale outside US and the crippling of various features for non-Americans, makes Sony and other readers far more attractive than the Kindle.

  • The Kindle is definitely on my radar, but I'd be a little miffed if a year later, a version capable of color was released. Not that it's necessary for reading novels, but for magazines and newspapers it would matter a fair bit.

  • I got my K2 today and i love it.... it took me about an hour to get used to the flash between page turns, i guess its kinda the same as turning the page... :) How do you like yours? Any tips or tricks you know of to help a newbie? - Thanks!:)

  • Now it's $259 I think it is well worth people who buy print books cause they run you $20-35 bucks no a days. Kindle downloads are just $3-$10 thats great.

  • So I can download ANY book even the fudge series and godless and diary of a wimpy kid dog days?

  • You want Godless? What are you stoopit or something?

  • the book is about 3 teenagers worshipping a water tower for some reason and one falls off and breaks his leg has nothing to do with god

  • Oh sorry I Thought it was by ann courtier

  • Does anyone know if it can download books in Spanish?

  • great review, no nonsense and straightforward.

as a kindle 2 owner i agree 100% with everything mentioned in the review.

  • I liked this "to the point" review without the sales pitch. Thanks!

  • I giggled when I thought of someone using the text-to-speech function to listen to a romance novel.

  • thanks for the review .. ill wait until the price is dropped
