Why did the mayan also build pyramides just like the one in Bosnia, Egypt, China? They never meet right? You know how small the odds are? I think these are just results or leftovers from a much more ancient civilization. Or maybe survived instruction. Its a fact that mankind destroyed many proof of much older technology as they would like to put themselves at the peak. Been to Egypt,Chitchen itza and puma punku. these buildings dont fit in our perception of evolution. think out of the box..
I just came back from Cancun a few days ago. We visited Chichen Itza and you can no longer walk in the Thousand Pillars, and they are further excavating the main pyramid (El Castillo, the biggest one). They are digging around the base to reveal another layer of pyramid below it, meaning its actually MUCH bigger than we see it!
They say excavations will probably be done in about 20 years......

If you are going to visit Cancun, please visit Xcaret, specially the show at the major room, it is amazing, dont lose it!

I was there during Easter week and our guide was half Mayan retired professor. This is a great place.
