  • Damn the last few minutes gets real.

    Superb video.

I just picked up Hotel Impala of Amazon. Diggin' it.

  • Very Cool!

  • Translation Part3:

To the happiness of another, the priority of our own happiness.

Mama Congo, Congo Mama will not fall,

Because of you, for my sake, for our sake. "

  • Translation Part2: And as they prayed. As they prayed They released a Bible. They taught us to pray with eyes closed And when we opened his eyes, we had their Bibles in hand And in their hands, they had our land. Will have to take a look at Mama Congo Will have to improve its image in the promised land Will have to take our land, even keeping the Bible Because it teaches us the love of neighbor, Loving the Congo, it is to be able to love the Congolese.
  • Translation for the preacher at the end:

Hear me, hear me well my child.

You know why, do you know why my friend?

One day bwana arrived by boat.

They are down, they had a flag.

They planted in front of us shouting that our land was now their land.

It was no grumbling praying and crying,

There was no flag so had to keep quiet.

  • JESUS CHRIST!

  • I was lucky enough to see Balogi at a free concert in Chicago's millenium park last night. I almost didn't go. I had never heard of him but he had me and most of the crowd on their feet dancing .He' s going to be at the Folk and Roots festival on Sunday in Chicago and if you're in Chicago you should be sure to check him out.

  • He's doing Ottawa Bluesfest on July 12th, 2011!!!! But I won't be in Ottawa :(

  • Giving Respect! before i though Africa can't rap but turn out i was wrong!

  • respect from Greece

  • Bravo! Enfin un chanteur congolais qui a une conscience politique! La plupart des chanteurs congolais ne pensent qu'a se faire de l'argent au lieu de denoncer les problemes du Congo tel que la Guerre du Coltan a l'est, la malnutrition infantile, les meurtres perpetrees contre des journalistes, des membres des ong et contre ceux qui osent s'opposer au pouvoir actuel, les violences sexuelles a l'est. Le Congo est occcupe, controle par les multinationales qui veulent nos richesses surtout le COLTAN

  • no dr saki!! grinds on and on and on!!!!!!!

  • I feel like every Congolese artist I've ever heard always make good music. Congo, you shall rise to greatness once again.

  • the artist may think she/he is sending a his/her message to the audience that message to the audience which is from the artist is called a preferred reading. however, in this world no receiver takes preferred reading from a medium only a a medium reading or the opposite reading so the artist so-called artist never and i say never make the meaning because we think the music's meaning has important implications on the us.

  • @alisdfd1992:

Most artists are not sending messages. They simply write from inspiration and the listener makes what he/she likes of it.

I think the problem for you is that you are dismissing enjoyment of music by trying to analyse it through some spurious psychological disection that simply confuses the issue.

Pop music, unlike classical, is transient, temporary and ultimately irrelevant, no matter how good it is, so why not just enjoy it?

Its meaning to you is personal, not universal.

  • op 31 juli op DIoniss!

  • What the fuck are people talking about? This guy is Conoglese.

  • this is good but poor why not speak in the naive language

african music is a way of each ethnic in africa understanding each other culture and learning about each other culture more in the naive language

  • @alisdfd1992: Baloji was born in the DRC, but his Belgian father took him to Belgium when he was four years old. He grew up speaking (and rapping) Belgian French.

The album this song is from (Kinshasa Succursale) came about when he went back to reconnect with his Congolese mother, and his roots.

  • @alisdfd1992:

Who are you to say what language an artist should perform in?

Would you have told Picasso what colours to paint with?

    NO!!!

Baloji is the artist and it is his choice entirely.

You are the audience - so just shut up and listen.

  • @throbule U SHUT UP IM NOT THE AUDIENCE THE AUDIENCE IS NEVER PASSIVE AS THE AUDIENCE MAKES THE MEANING OF ANY MEDIUM U IDIOT GO AND LEARN ABOUT MEDIA AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE AUDIENCE SIMPLE SPEAK IN THE NATIVE LANGUAGE TO SHOW THE STRENGTH OF AFRICA AND ITS COLONIERS FAILED SIMPLY

  • @alisdfd1992:

The audience has a right to be anything it wants to be - but when an audience member (like you) starts to tell an artist what they must do, then its time for that audience member to shut up.

Baloji (and all other artists) have the sole power to make all decisions about their art, and therefore they outrank you and your opinions.

Just pay your entrance fee (or buy the CD), sit and enjoy, clap at the end and then just leave please.

Thats all any artist needs from you (the audience).

  • @alisdfd1992:

Furthermore - Since when did an audience make the meaning of any medium?

The meaning and intention of all art and music is entirely in the mind of the artist.

The consumer can say what he/she likes about that music or art, but it does not change it or give it a new meaning above the artist or musician, and as such, is subordinate to the artists original inspiration.

Its all in your head this media relationship bollox you mention.

    Colonialism my arse.

  • @throbule look at consumer's culture pop music, people buy pop track because they interpret the meaning to mean something for them and has a meaning in their life.however, the truth is that just because we sing a song has no meaning to us, we are just copying someone's else feelings which is the artist who sung the soNg ADORNO HE CALL IT PSUEDO-INDIVIDUALIZED

  • @alisdfd1992:

There you go displaying your knowledge of media gobbleygook again.

People buy music because they like it, not because it has meaning - meaning only comes with time.

Unless we know what an artist's inspiration or intention was, we can only put our own meaning on a song or a piece of music, and it rarely has anything to do with what the artist had in mind.

That does not devalue the consumers feelings - but they are still subordinate to the artists own ideas of what the music means.

  • Hot as a motha! Tu déchires Baloji!

  • what language is he speaking? Does it have any relation to french?

  • @hicitronella it is french.

  • en même temps, Malaika et tout les autres, ce qui est demandé c'est : "Quelle langue parle t'il?".... Et il parle bien en francais. Ca veut pas dire qu'il vient de France.

I juste said : the question was "What language does he speak", and he does speak french. It does not mean he is from France.

How, I love her for her wisdom!

Un beat irrésistible, un excellent texte, il s'agit probablement de la meilleure chanson de l'album, bien que les autres se valent aussi. Un grand bravo !
