i think laptop manufacturers should include a small ssd where the os is installed, and then have the hard drive caddy free to be swapped out, that way you can move your files without disabling the laptop, decrease the boot time, and not have to worry about getting expensive 500gb ssds to make up for your large but slow hard drive
@TheSgt93 By chance I was fortunate enough to have been given an SSD so I swapped out the Momentus for the SSD. Towards the end it felt sluggish and just like a normal drive so I think the 4GB flash is alright but probably not enough to make a difference. That said, it's not a bad upgrade in terms of price/performance compared to buying an SSD.
@kungfucamel Awesome video, did you defrag the Momentus XT once a month? I read in a seagate forum that you should do that (but no sooner than 1x/month) , I just got a 250gb Momentus XT for 40$ new and I'm very happy to use it for a boot drive.
Initially you do notice a bit of a boost during boot up and also app starting but it's been about 6 months now and it's starting to feel a bit slow. If you really want an increase for speed, I'd recommend saving and getting an ssd. They are that much quicker.
I have a WD Scorpio Black 7200rpm 320gb hard drive in my Toshiba laptop is it worth upgrading from this hard drive to a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid? because from what I saw on the video there wasn't much of a speed boost.
@pkerry12 Hey i have the same hard drive as you too and i recomend you to keep that till there is something better . Just have your laptop cleaned and defraged and tweaked and it will boot up in seconds. As for the momentus its fast but heard it runs too hot and drains too more power .So to make a long story short wait for something better or get a ssd.
@pkerry12 exactly what he said, except i have dv6000 series hp. running out of space, debating on if the 500gb momentus xt is worth the $40 premium over the 500gb scorpio black...
Have u had any problems with it lately? I'm waiting for my to get here along with Snow Leopard (compatibility issues have finally been fixed) but i've heard that there have been some issues with the XT and 10.6.4 OSX.
@kfkdvm haven't noticed any issues - for a while i thought it might have been slowing down but then when i launch an app it loads in 1-2 bounces so i know that it's working fine.
@thejamesjr Depends on whether you want the disk space (in that case go the 1TB) or the balance between performance and disk space (compared to a SSD). Probably wouldn't bother with the 500GB Scorpio as it's the worst of both... smaller disk space and average performance.
@kungfucamel I much prefer performance over the larger storage, as 500GB is plenty. I narrowed it down between the WD Scorpio Black 500GB & Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 500GB. I have always preferred WD over Seagate HHD's, but I have decided to give Seagate a try as the 4GB of SSD interests me. Thanks!
@jsarver it's probably a little bit noisier than the stock and you may notice battery life drop a little because of the 7200rpm drive but the performance gain is worth it.

I've got the same hard drive on my MacBook Pro and the boot speed is 20s and 16s on a restart. My spec is 2.3ghz i7 and 8gb RAM.

MacBook Pro 2010 took 25 sec to boot up cold start.

From what i see this drive is exellent it's a total SSD Disk drive all in one kinda.. 4Gigs for the OS and the hardrive for storage.

All the people who I know with Macs say boot-up is 2-4 seconds, evidently that's stretching the truth a bit...
I realise Mac OS still seems to boot faster than Windows but thats not the point im making.

Which hard drive would you recommend?
1. WD Scorpio Blue 1TB 5200RPM
2. WD Scorpio Black 500GB 7200RPM
3. Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200 RPM

@thejamesjr
Hi!!
I'll change my WD Scorpio Blue 1TB 5200RPM
for a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200 RPM
I need space...but the WD is too Slow...than last Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200 RPM that i have... Now i'll try the XT....
For space in HDD 1TB is a better choice...but for performance... XT is better.
I'm VideoJokey... that bcs i need a Performance(1st)...and Space(2nd)
That It!!
