  • This is why my favorite # is 6! People always ask...

  • This breaks my heart. So , so sad. Ck out the videos of my rescue mare, Dakota. We are so blessed to have her.

  • Didn't she start out at 2yrs

  • People if any horse or pony breaks its leg/legs its got to be put down!! There was nothing they could do for the poor animal and the fact they put it down straight after it broke its legs means the suffering was skipped and the horse wasn't in pain!!!!

  • Did it ever occur to you guys that the person who made this video might not speak english?

  • @sebras99 she wasn't racing barbaro this was long after he died. I was at the race, he was racing big brown.

  • She's just gorgeous <3

  • Baby Girl, I miss you, I never met you, but I watched your big day, Barbaro stole the attention, it wasn't fair, Barbaro was important, but you, were stunning.

  • I love horses with a passion. But horse racing; I strongly hate. When I was younger I never fully understood, but there was something about it I hated. 2 years is NO age for a horse

  • Why to kill a racehorse. The pain? Please. Human Being suffer the same.

  • @thescanner01 Because two broken legs on a human is much easier to treat than on a horse. The amount of stress on the remaining good legs often causes other problems, and then also the amount of stress being locked up for MONTHS in a sling and stall..... she may have been saved if it had been just a single fracture... but two is too much to put a horse through. Humans at least have the concept of suicide if their pain is too much.

  • @SaraSindari And even if it was just one (like Barbaro). It can often be the other good legs that develop problems (in Barbaro's case it was laminitis), and that will be what kills them.

  • eight bells was 3 when she was put down. all the horses are 3 when they run in the derby

  • @SuperCuba1995 SHE had broken both her front legs. She wouldn't have been able to walk again let alone race again!

  • i undastand the when the happend i bolive he wasent ever going to race again.. but why dirent the owners shust toke him home and shut let him leave his life?? was puting him to sleep nesesary?

  • what song it is?

  • What happened did she die during a race??

  • @acefrehley777 she broke her two front legs... so everything went over on that day for her.

  • Rest In Peace Eight Belles, you were one of the best fillies out there. You showed those colts what you could do and died proving them wrong. <3

  • wonder if her bones were closed. Should be x-ray before racing

  • @marty6947 YES! Agree! They are just too young... We love Eight Belle, Ruffian or Barbaro. It is beautiful to see them race, but the price they pay for our pleasure and the money of those who go there is to high. It is not correct to make them race at a young age. People can say what they want: they are not mature so it is cruel.

  • R.I.P

  • 2 years old!!! idiotic fools

  • "Kuntucky Derby"? The u is nowhere near the e key. Spell check please. The tribute would mean a little more if you took the time to get the spelling correct. I worked as an outrider at a racetrack and have seen everything that goes on at the shed-rows (back stables). This mare should not have run that day. Even in pain she STILL ran. I left horse racing because of the shady stuff that goes on. All for the mighty dollar. Not worth a horses life.

  • This is why horse racing isn't any different than cock fighting or bull fighting.

  • Thats terrible! 2 years old! She could have had 28 more happy years ! :0 Thats aweful!!!

  • she was to young when she raced.. she was only 2. a few years to young to race..

    rip baby girl

  • @riorider809 Most race horses start at 2, and she was 3 (just like all of the horses in the Derby). It's only open to three year olds.

  • when u said thats the owner put her down then and there it was best for her she was in alot of pain and it would have made her life worse if we put her through any thing else and people dont understand what the horse might be feeling in side. if they love to run then let them run like Zenyatta but her bone werent fully developed yet so do duh shes going to get hurt some peps dont even care. im srry if this made any one made but its the truth

  • My heart goes out to Eight Belles and the people who loved her.. We raced horses also, it hurts the heart when something like this happens.. We lost some racers that we loved due to horseracing.. So I know the pain.. R.I.P Belles..

  • Its really said considering she was still very young/

  • kuntucky.......lol...i like that better than kentucky.....

  • This music goes very well with these clips.

Ruffian also had a very sad story.

  • Eight Bells was a beautiful filly that took a bad header,....If the owners are so evil why did they have her put down then and there,....She was in pain and no way to fix her,.....MONEY WAS NOT A CONSIDERATION!!!!.....Sick of people on here blaming racing when they know shit about it!

  • The sad part about racing is that a horse isn't considered full mature until they are about five years old, that means that their bones are still growing and maturing. A thoroughbred racehorse is one year old dating from January 1 of the year in which it was foaled. So they might NOT actually be fully a year yet depending on when they were born during that year. So it is no wonder that thoroughbreds are so easily injured on the track.

  • If they could only start racing them when they got a little older and lett their bones settle... So sad, she was a gorgeous girl...

  • her tail was absolutly butiful 0:13

  • Wow, how are people still interested in horse racing after this? More horses die from the racetrack then anything else. And yet "horse lovers" still support it.

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3 ya i dont get it too. im a horse lover but i dont support this sport

  • This is another reason why I hate racing. why put these beautiful colts and fillies in such a strenuous sport when all it does is kill them? R.I.P Eight Bells! I love you!

  • @luvergirl43 your right. The best horses die from it.

  • @gfshorsegirl2011 I am reading the story of Seabiscuit and i found out that Man O' War was retired early in his career because his owners were afraid that he would get hurt. Now that was smart. Yet, its painful to read or even watch them race. I am glad to know that there are racehorse rescues in Colorado and other places.

  • @templars83 ain, and she wouldn't want that. Her entire racing career would be gone down the drain, and so what on earth was she supposed to be? A English riding horse? A pasture pet? Could you imagine Eight Belle's as a pasture pet, still being forever lame in her front legs, constantly in pain? She would be lame forever, and there would be no way to ease the pain, sad to say. She is better off now, though we grieve for her everyday. I will always miss her,her legacy is forever and ever on end

  • @templars83 Though I almost completely agree with you, and I wish so much they could have saved her, I just wanted to point out that if we break both our legs, we go to the hospital, get them fixed, and then get put in wheelchair for the rest of the time we are in pain. But a horse, they have four legs, and Eight Belles broke the front two legs, the vet could have shifted the bone into place, but where would belle go from ther? In a stall, in a full body sling? Eight Belles would be in so much p

  • I wish the owners would have tried to save her like the owners of Barbaro did - instead they put her down in short shrift - a disposable material. THAT is the most sad thing about the entire story. They might have done more for her - people are different than horses this is true - and horses are noted as poor patients but we don't put a person down who breaks an ankle do we.

  • that is such a sad story made me cry when i saw it :( RIP Eight Belles

  • i miss her so much

  • 3 years ago... Still makes me cry. That was my uncles bestfriends horse and it was like she was my uncles bestfriend.

  • Eight Belles didn't care about her 2 broken ankles! She wanted to prove she was faster than 18 colts! And she did! She is a sweetheart. She ran fast like Secretariat! We LOVE You Eight Belles! R.I.P Beautiful filly!

  • she was such a geat race horse it was horrible she died that way :(

  • Learn to spell...

  • rest in Peace eight Belles.

  • Rest in peace Eight Belles I'll always miss you! you left hoof prints on our hearts

  • rest in peace my sweet Bell :(

  • how did she broke her legs?

    did she fall?

  • @lindseylove555 she fell, but because she broke both front legs. there's a horse WAY back in her pedigree that passed down to his foals the gene of delicate bones..Eight Bell's couldn't handle the extra few furlongs that day :(

  • this made me cry i now own a thoroughbred i took her in b/c she was sick and the the people that had her would not do anything for her im happy to say that she is much better now and i dont think she been on a race tack though she dose have a tat on her upper lip i still can not bear the thought of losing her. and when i got her july 29, 2011 i really didnt know much about horses at all

  • Rest in Peace!<3

  • I can only imagine how horrible it must've been for the owners... Seeing your horse come second and then a moment later you know you have to save them from their pain. Poor girl. This is why I'd never race a horse because I'd never forgive myself if this happened to them. Rest in peace, Eight Belles. <3

  • I AM AUTCUALLY CRYING!!!!

  • Pore horse...

  • OMG! me and my granddad used to bet on that horse. Wondered where it went.

R.I.P baby girl, you was my winner xxxx

  • Chillax folks. These horses a born to run. At reputable barns, they eat first they get their hair done first, they get clean beds first, don't judge what you obviously don't understand

  • They killed another one. At least this one was in front of a crowd and more people got to see cruelty for what it really is.

  • Perfect horse :)

  • i remember when this filly broke down...i was absolutely heartbroken =(

  • :'(

  • Comment removed

  • I got tears in my eyes...</3

  • My mom watched it with my aunt and me and i betted the winning one would win and it did and my mom voted on poor poor 8 belles

  • They shoudlnt race horses to young. If yo ulook at the oicture of her falling down her legs are like funny shaped. That is horrible. I feel so bad for her. No horse, animal or thing should be put through the pain of that. They should raise it to 4-5. That way their bones are atleast hardened.

  • @ponypnyponypower it does not matter the age accidents still happen my 10 yr old mare broke one of her front hooves at just a lope.......its horrible yes but accidents happen

  • I was crying! It was the first year I was watching the derby, and I couldn't believe what happened! My mom was crying, and didn't watch the other races, she sat in the kitchen while me and my dad watched big brown loose. Spoof sad! We love you eight belles, your in our prayers!!!

  • Don't support horse racing if you truly care about horses.

  • i hate it when things like that happen,i was watchin point to point raceing it ws muddy and slippery and and a horse slipped got a spirl facture and too this day i am scard to watchin racein or go to shows ! it was put down there as soon as it happend the poor creature did'nt know that was its last day :'(

  • :'( so sad.Thats what happens when horses are raced 2 young. R.I.P Eight Belles!

  • i love racehorse with everything i have... but i dont understand 1 thing... if she finished the derby and came in second how could she break her legs when they were done?

  • @8breyerlover i suposse it happened while they were slowing down (sorry if i've grammar errors, english is not my first language)

  • thats sssooooo sad!

  • she was only three and it was her first year racing her jockey pushed her harder than her limit to catch up to Big Brown. he then made the tragic mistake and tried to stop her too quickly and she fell when the sudden stop snapped her young legs. the jockey was fired from his job as a jockey soon after she was euthanized on the tack form her failure to even stand. that bastard deserved to get fired and more for killing that young beauty.

  • I believe they did the right thing euthenizing her. Leg injuries on horses are hard to heal/treat as it is without the added difficulty of having broken BOTH front legs. Tragic as it was there was little to no chance of her surviving.

  • @ridenlite she was euthinized because she couldnt even stand up! no because of that. they killed her because she was in terrible pain! they couldnt get her up and in a trailer for proper help so the owner unwillingly gave up his love to save her from the agony of this world.

  • Damn it, it's hard to get shots of the thing being killed.

  • @Konoton01 I doubt that was the euthenization taking place. I believe those were pain killers. She was actually taken off the track and euthanized in a horse ambulence.

  • @RidingTemptation no she wasnt. they put her down on the track because they couldnt move her. she couldnt get up and she was too heavy they killed her right then.

  • @101Changeling Hm. then i heard wrong. sorry everyone.

  • I live in Louisville, and on this fateful day 3 yrs ago, when this lil filly ran so hard for us, I was at a car lot signing papers on my 04 Mustang GT. I had stopping signing long enough to see this baby go down. Right then, i decided that my car would be called Eight Belles. I have an airbrushed plate on the front, with Eight Belles, a gold horsehoe with wings... now this baby can still fly.............

    Love you sweetheart.........

  • HOJE 3 ANOS SEM EIGHT BELLES REST IN PEACE, : (

  • *cries* thats so sad poor horse

  • Ok, to all of you talking about TWO year olds breaking down, yes its sad, but get your facts straight. Eight Belles was THREE years old, same as all horses in that race. They HAVE to be three years old in order to run in the derby.

  • At 0:56 The horse were like, "OH! I cant watch!" RIP Eight Belles! We all miss you! Great video!

  • and her rider left

  • God Bless you Eightbelles we will all miss you very much♥

  • Not all racing horse owners are that way but most only see horses as money makers, if they don't make it for any reason they just move onto the next. It's sad but it's true. :(

  • aww...i loved her. she was such a beautiful horse. i wish they had watched "Dreamer" maybe it would have changed their minds...

  • @perfectlyEquestrian Yea, but in dreamer the horse broke one leg. One is hard to heal but 2? The horse would never walk again.

  • @emanubano well we don't know that now do we? people just dont have the time or money which is unfornuate :(

  • Poor eight bells , such a beauty, cant argue with that, idc if i dont know horse raceing but still, its sad how owners have ot put down their beloved horses, :'( this vid made me cry, again she was a beauty, ... R.I.P Eight Bells <3 never knew her bc i never watch race horses, but i know she was a good horse, thnx for sharring </3

  • r.i.p :(

  • I am crying!!! : ,(

  • My farrier said he suspected strongly that Eight Belles was going to either be badly hurt or killed because of being run so hard so young.

  • She was a beautiful color, I've never seen a black with such a light tail, or is she a gray?

  • @horsefanatic23 She is a Grey

  • wow beautiful video!!! i remember watching it on tv as it happened; it was horrible. she was such an amazing filly, a lot like ruffian and rachel alexandra. RIP girl we will never forget you!!!!

  • I have an AQHA filly whoa looks a lot like her, my filly even had Thoroughbred conformation. She is very refined, this is an AMAZING video! I love this! I cry even more because it reminds me of my filly, you did a great job! THUMBS UP!!

  • this is sad so is the trgity of ruffian rip ruffian if you didnt see what happeded to ruffian go to part 7 of the ruffian movie and watch its a more better scense of what happened and it is gross but its better to see what happened and learn facts then to never know at all do you agree?

  • Sad to say that this is just another tragedy of this so called sport for horse "lovers" well if you truly love horses...why would you race them before they are ready? These thoroughbreds are only 3 years old when they are raced...horses legs aren't fully developed until they are 7. most race horses don't even live to the age of 10...

  • OMG ur really bumming me out with the music...:'( R.I.P

  • R.I.P EightBelles!! Dx I agree with Horselover305! EightBelles Was A Champion! and always will be!!

  • I THINK THEY SHOULD MAKE A BREYER HORSE OUT OF HER! SHE DESERVES THE RESPECT AND TRIBUTE! WHO AGREES THUMBS UP!

  • @breyerrockers123 she has one

  • 8 Belles R.I.P!! Humans should learn where the limit is! Respect and love to animals should be the TOP priority and it is well known that humans have interefere with breeds in order to make faster and thinner legs!! common...that would be obvious to a child! Lets STOP producing ANIMALS on the way WE WANT them...otherwise, they will be many others like 8Belles that will suffer the same path! PATHETIC human beings that we are!!!! Lets put them first rather than our ego and interests!!!

  • a law that i just found out about was that racetrack veterinarians have the authority to make medical decisions for/euthanize a horse without consulting w/the owners in a situation like Eight Belles...Eight Belles owners weren't even aware she'd been euthanized, let alone had broken down

  • shes such a pretty horse too :(

  • EightBells was Amazing! I still miss her and Watcher her vids still make me and my friend cry

  • Horses weigh about a thousand pounds and their legs are very slim and skinny a thousand pounds on one leg even for a split second is stressful to the bone and tendons thats what happened with Ruffian. She picked up a sore leg and the great match race she came out of the gate wrong which affected the whole race for her and she stepped wrong in the backstretch causign the bone to snap. this can happen to any horse galloping

  • So sad... ;(

  • 8 bells swiched leads before she fell and on an accident ... D: i wish she haddnt swiched....you will have your proof if you watch a video of her colapsing and watch her legs she swiches and then you see her trip and fall.....it is sad what happend...it wasnt her falt she didnt know...

  • piękne zakończenie

  • I MISS YOU EIGHT BELLES!!!! ='( I have a horse that is related to Eight Belles though him grand father is dixieland band and Eight Belles grandfather is dixieland band its very cool

  • Dracomancer01 she had steriods thats how she fell :(

  • The song 'my immortal' by evanessence perfectly fits this video, it makes me cry every time i listen to it and now it will remind me of eight bells. Rest in peace, lovely.

  • I cried when I saw this. I'm a total horse lover and I can't stand for horses to die just because they can't race anymore. It's cruel! I don't like horse racing because of this reason.

  • I cried when I saw this. I'm a total horse lover and I can't stand for horses to die just because they can't race anymore. It's cruel! I don't like horse racing because of this reason.

  • I cried at this the owner of Eight Belles was rlly schocked and Eight Belles went away faster as the wind :(( miss her :((

  • its so sad im crying

  • I am relived. I thought that she died because of to many injuries, I am very happy to know that the owners of her were nice and caring enough to not let her suffer : )

  • Damn.....even the other horses at 0:57 had to look away before or while it happened. :(

  • i started cry

  • @SympathyxNotxSorrow jockeys are not fat in fact they have to be certain weight.........btw alll those people that say that horse racing is animal abuse have no idea what happens behind the scenes race horses are treated like kings and they do not do it for the money because of the economy right now horse racing is getting the worst of it and people still do it because its a passion for the horses

  • @HyPeRaCtIvEnEsS12345 they are definitely NOT treated like kings. I'm not one of these people that is against horse racing. I actually enjoy it but facts are facts and these horses are forced to train ridiculously hard and if they can't cut it as a racehorse many are beaten and even killed. Yes, the best of the best can be treated great....but what about all the other racehorces that aren't as talented??? they are treated horribly.

  • I see she was a wonderful horse... she gave all fore her rider... but thats the sad side of horseracing :(

  • slipped away avril lavigne...

we'll miss you eight belles, jockeys are such short fat assholes and you should have been treated better, not a moneymaking fast tool :(

  • @SympathyxNotxSorrow since when are jockeys fat??? have you ever watched a horse race??? those guys have next to no fat on them.

  • Whats this song? You have problem been asked this question a billion times. But i would greatly apriciate it. Thanks :D Nice vid by the way. I liked it. R.I.P Eight Belles

  • thats fkin horrible.......

  • sayang you need to shut up I know larry very well and he is very nice you dont even know! So keep your mouth shut

  • Maybe if 200 lbs of Larry Jones' fat ass didnt gallop her at mach 3 everyday she'd be alive. Larry killed her, and his boohoo BS on television with the wife doesn't move me a bit. I worked on the track in the barn over, and that guy should be in court on animal cruelty charges....not treated like some hero. Makes me sick that!!

  • Hey idiot, Kentucky Derby is for 3 year olds.

  • stuff like this happens because race horses bones arent hardened completly at the age of 2..and so they break alot easier due to the emense stress running that hard causes on them..at 2 they are still babies and should not be ridden..its heartbreaking to see such wonderful horses be put down due to such things that can be prevented just by waiting another year or two

  • @dracomancer01

I completely agree! Trainers should have to wait until horses are 3 1/2 before riding them at strenuous paces such as the Derby! It is said that a horses skeleton keeps growing until it is 7 yrs old. Jockeys may be small but its the huge stress put on the musculoskeletal system that breaks so many gallopers before their time. And don't get me sTARTED on "jumps racing"!

  • @shannmc01....i agree...this is not the first time somting like this has happend..rip eight bells

  • @dracomancer01 true...but this horse was 3. not 2 so your argument really doesnt work.

  • @dracomancer01 Comments like this really incorrect. I am a trainee vet and Eight Belles broke down on her two forelegs due to changing legs whilst unstable. Not due to weak bones!!

  • @dracomancer01 agreed completley, i think they should not be raced untill the age of 4, oh they might not be as fast, but each horse will be that age, so it wouldn't make a difference to the placings or how good a horse is

  • @dracomancer01 thats what they did to zenyatta. they waited til november as a three year to race her

  • @dracomancer01 This is why racing shouldn't happen! It's kindof like an analogy to horse slaughter. Horses are raised to be killed. Racehorses are raised to win and die tragically one day. Just like Ruffian. Also these poor animals are drugged up too much. And you're right, they're WAY too young to be raced, yet alone ridden!!

  • @LuckyZoneOne2 Hate to tell you this but the public sector kills more horses than racing ever can. Call your local livestock disposal company and ask how many horses they 'handle'. On average, here in California, a typical livstcok disposal company handles anywhere from 30 to 50 horses per week. Do the math for 12 months, then per total of such outfits. Its easy to pick on racing. I'm sure there is a simpler, easier way to raise a dollar, but I raise T-breds because I love horses to begin with.

  • @dracomancer01 i soooo agree horses should not be raced till atleast 5 but accidents do happen but they would be alot less common if they would wait and let the horses grow before they forced them to run

  • @dracomancer01 Not all horses bake down at 2 some times thay will bake down at 3 like Ruffian god bless her but i am with you i think riding at 2 is okay but not runing its defrent when your just walking cos its not as hard i think maybe racing at 3 in till 4 are 4 in till 5 but no older then that its a lot of stress on old horses too but that have fake legs like what that have for ppl i wonder how come thay did not get her some i would have. Like did thay love her to save her life and get her 1

  • @dracomancer01 yeah she snapped her legs because her jockey pushed her past her limit and ten stoped her too quickly. when she stoped her legs couldnt handle the pressure of her body weight and she fell.

  • Comment removed

  • @dracomancer01 as much as i agree with you that they should wait.....even if they do wait there will still be accidents i had a 10 yr old palomino mare break her hoof (not sure of the currect name) but either way she broke it doing a barrel pattern at just a lope we saved her however although she would never be able to be rode for a long distance or a fast pace she still could be rode by children.......but either way it doesnt matter how old the horse is accidents still happen........

  • @barboro1

i didnt say accidents couldnt happen at any age but if they are raced later they atleast have a better chance if they break something..........

  • I agree 100% @ponypnyponypower

  • @barboro1

    thnx

  • If only more people looked at it the way we do :)@ponypnyponypower

  • @barboro1

    hahah totally! :)

  • @ponypnyponypower

What do you mean by ha ha ha!? You fucking retard! Do you want me to come and fuck your ass and make you eat puke! Fucking show some respekt your fucking fuck shitface!!!!!! Go and rape youreself! Die die die! Please!!!!!!!

  • @annama46

ok cool it, im 12, i dont want to listen to idiots run there mouths. I wasnt doing the haha thin to the video!! moron, i was saying ha ha to something else said! instead of jumping fn conlusion's!. Ok i dont know what i did to you..... and your confusing??

  • @ponypnyponypower haha I hate some people on here! they fight back at you and you didnt even do nuthin! p.s. im 12 too lol

  • Where is Eight Belles

    What happen?

    Poor girl

    she was wonderful

  • she was great! and it was the right way of the owner to put her down, sad but the best! everyone will miss her

  • i miss her! poor horse!! i cried!!

  • Too bad she isn't here anymore and quite tragic that she broke the same thing in both of her forelegs.. But she looks quite pretty o.o I don't see much (nearly) black horses with a white tailending.

  • She was a good horse to ride.

    I loved her
