  • The lead vocal is amazingly pretty.

  • oh Mary ...i would marry you !"!

  • Saw them at high school mother butler Bronx ny

  • hahaha funny comments love it thnx for posting:}

  • Este coque na cabeça te lembra algo? Yes I love you Amy winehouse por lembrar alguns passos também...

  • Fabuloso!Antologico.

  • The sweater is big and bulky to match his eyes. Doesn't say anything about color.

I guess his eyes are just big and bulky. Explains the shades.

  • what's TV programme?

  • Does anybody here know what "good bad" means?

  • @Upsiditus7 Not evil.

  • Oh pure joy, and dig the band with two baritone saxes. Brilliant sound and great singing.

  • @jofrad Every band should have two baritone saxes.

  • @inrii, Yes but you can't get em !

  • There is a great cover version by Johnny Thunders.

  • @ZLUGGO Amazing

  • SPANISH COVER

    youtube.com/watch?v=cZBn0i_yUoA&feature=related

  • So a great song!!!!

  • beautyfull

  • Why does everyone have to bring up Lady Gaga and try to drag her through the mud? She worked hard to get where she is, and you can't deny that, whether you like her style of music or not.

If she sucks so bad, why don't you, @budmangt2, go stick it to her and make millions more with your singing? Hmm?

  • Hal Blaine on drums I believe, awesome days

  • She is so beutyfuel :D

  • The New York Dolls were glued to the set when this was on tv! As was Steven Tyler.

  • mary makes me hard...she is awesome..i mean really hard

  • who gives a damn, she looked like mary stewart, so that was sexy

  • The NewYork Dolls were listening closely! So was Steven Tyler.

  • YEAH I remember watching this episode of Shindig. These girls make modern counterparts look like wimps.

  • God, Mary was fine!

  • I dont know why i think this weird because my Ipod Genius put this song next to Ramones and Greenday . I guess b/c the Ramones were inspired by girl groups like Shangri la and Green day is inspired by the Ramones. I guess I answered my own question.

  • @J5MARLON may also have something to do with Johnny Thunders and New York Dolls covering this song?

  • @J5MARLON may also have something to do with Johnny Thunders and New York Dolls covering this song

  • @J5MARLON Well, the Ramones recorded "Baby I Love You" by the Ronettes. Too bad the Ronettes never regrouped to record "The KKK Took My Baby Away."

  • I want Mary Weiss so bad!! If only I was 30 years older or she was 35 years younger lol

  • mary weiss, your voice is just as beautiful today as it was from yesterday !!! love you shangri--las!!! sincerely, alan

  • love you beautiful shangr-las !!!

  • god there awful ooks like piss eds doing kareoke badly

  • white ethnic ghetto music and it was great!

  • There's a continuity error in this song. While the narrator claims that her guy's eyes are hidden behind his shades, his "big bulky sweater" is supposed to match them. Can anyone help me resolve this?

  • @jkrycz

Aah, the ol' "What color are his eyes?" "I dunno, he's always wearing shades" vs. "Big mohair sweater -- to match his eyes" conundrum...

I presume that she was playing coy. That she had seen his eyes, but wasn't yet ready to express what the beautiful sight of them revealed to her, so she pretended to have never seen them. Or something. (Yeah, that's the ticket...)

    I dunno....

  • @jkrycz sometimes you just have to let art flow over you

  • the sweaters must match the color of the lenses in the eyeglasses.

  • @jkrycz probably meaning that the sweater is the same color of his shades... so probably black?... best guess ive got

  • @jkrycz Maybe he has a collection of glass eyes in his pocket?

  • @jkrycz

maybe it's a black sweater. To match the glasses. I know, it's a stretch.

  • @jkrycz shut up , its a good song

  • @doonaman13 lol

  • @jkrycz the sweater is black

  • @jkrycz The sweaters can still match his eyes whether we see them or not.

  • @jkrycz Yes, the resolution is who gives a shit.

  • @jkrycz Artistic license. Just enjoy the song.

  • what a voice!!!

  • You got that right gyrene1966!

  • Cutest song ever

  • What a great performance, and Mary is gorgeous... she would have given most female artists a run for their money was she on the scene today.

  • Real women, notice absence of skin

  • Mary is lovely, but I find Margie Ganser to be mesmerizing in all the videos. She moved good as well. The twins had the ability to look really different in most of their videos, just by changing their hairstyle. Damn cool. Especially in the Out in the Streets video. WOW.

  • @Ilovethe60s1 I agree, they are all absolutely beautiful! Would loved to have seen them perform live.

  • Tuffest chick band ever. Probably used IEDs for IUDs.

  • Fandabidoosie

  • Does any one know how old Mary weiss when she was a member of the shangri las?

  • Comment removed

  • shindig

  • Lots of guys comment about Mary being a hottie, and I agree, but I think Betty looks mighty fine in this video . . . just sayin' . . .

  • @FoxRunMan Betty was the best looking, but fits in the least. Not appearing onstage with the group often, she doesn't quite keep up with the choreography.

  • @torchkit Yeah, I've noticed she was a little out of sync on the moves. She sang lead on several of their recordings, and sounds pretty good. Too bad she couldn't or wouldn't take a more active role in their live performances.

  • These chix were the ginchiest!

  • i agree with Edhallick ( above ). why no bands with this much coolness / talent & va va voom !! anymore. it"s all like processed meat now,& the no talent at all. i feel better now.

  • There I was in my room singing and dancing, following along with my LP as Mary, oh what fun it was.....

  • These girls were something. :-)

  • These girls would chew lady gaga up and spit her out.....and they were only 14 years old!!! well at least Mary was at the time

  • @budmangt2 amen

  • @budmangt2 so true hahah thankyou !!!

  • @budmangt2 Mary Weiss was 16 at that time.. the only one who clearly was too young was Betty weiss

  • @Freyja1133 Actually, Mary is the youngest. The reason Betty seems rusty is that she never toured with the group, and only rarely did any live appearances because she had a baby at home.

  • @Holdenon3 thanks for explaining that to me... I don;t think that Mary was 14 though

I think that sh may have been closer to 16 or 17

    what do you think Holdenon3?

  • @budmangt2 I think that the Ganser twins already had graduated from High school by this time...And MAry weiss was a junior in high school

Their mothers would've never allowed them to tour if they were 14

  • @budmangt2 Mary weiss was 17 when the shangri las recorded give him a great big kiss

subtract the year that she was born from the year remember ( walking in the sand ) was released..that will give you her age at that time

  • @budmangt2 mary weiss was 16 at this time not 14

  • @budmangt2 she was 16 or 17 but point made i love shangri-las and agree with you :)

  • @budmangt2 it's not a competition.

  • @budmangt2 If we can believe Wikipedia and the description of the video, than she was 17 at the time ;)

  • @budmangt2 Mary was born in 1948 so she was 17 here.

  • I'm in love with Mary. I wish I would have known her in this time period.

  • Loved these girls. Saw them way back when at a Dick Clark Caravan of Stars show..... was totally in love with Mary.

  • If I had a time machine, the first thing I'd do is get into a threesome with Mary Weiss, and Ronnie Spector. Then I'd check out the MC5 live.

  • a great big kiss...MUAH!!!!

  • unbelievable how one can look at her face and watch her sing for so long without getting bored.

if this was lady gaga i'd be dead by now.

  • I almost blew my eardrums listening to this song... i had ear buds on and the screams came in so loud! love the song though!~

  • I am so serious about singing this song at my camps Rock and Roll night would this be a good choice and Also leader of the pack

  • i'm63 yrs old saw them with my 25 yr old in rochester and they were worth price of admission if no other group came but lou christie was the hit of the show

  • @phattymcpat12 What you saw was a fake Shangri-Las group. The twins are dead and only Mary still perform.

  • who is the girl on the left with Carol Shelyne at 1:55? I'm really amused by her!

  • THE SHANGRI-LAS RULE

  • Glee should do this for an all girls duet

  • during my 7th grade our school had every one in the year do a lip syncing performance on a classic song of their choice. this was my song... ahhh, memories...

  • Great performance of their best song. I was a teenager in the South when this was a hit, and we could only dream about being with these classy NY girls. Steve

  • I got a 68 vette when I crank this song I get athumbs up. Then I open the header and do a massive burn out and the people go wild

I love these groups. Sherelld ronettes etc

  • "Well, I hear he's bad." "Ahhh, he's good bad, but he's not evil." How do you beat this performance? A youtube classic!

  • Bruce Lee listened to music like this during his time. :-)

  • Can't believe I found this. I thought I was the only one who remembered this song. Played the 45 on a spindle that included Junior Walker, The Marvelettes, Jan and Dean, some Stones, and a bunch of Beatles.

  • this is so great the shangri-las at their best

  • Absolutely fantastic. Mwah!

  • always liked this song!

  • Very nice & distinctive voice with looks to go with it! Great group, great vid!

  • i <3 Mary Weiss .

    0:28-0:33. oh my gosh.

oh and 1:00 to 1:34, such amazing vocals and strong expression.

  • this is freakin awesome

  • Girl groups are having a serious resurgence, check out the Vivian Girls, or the Dum Dum Girls, Amy Winehouse, too.. and there's lots more....but definitely, nothing comes close to the magic these ladies made back in the day:)

  • One of the sexiest faces in music history at 1:06 (when Mary "crinkles" her nose.

  • Im Literally meeting a guy off of ebay who lives right next to me and Buying The 1964 Red Bird "Leader of The Pack" album tomorrow!! Ive been trying to get this album for 2 years lol

  • These girls not only sing great, they look great too!

  • They don't make musics like this anymore. the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s were the best

  • Love that attitude , it is so sexy ! 1965 hanging out at the soda shop .

  • Great!

  • fantastic performance

  • We have the same hairdresser

  • Not only the Shangri-Las, but the clip ends with Carol Shelyne. It simply doesn't get much better than that, if at all. Love it!!

  • I met Mary Weiss at a show last night, she was standing in the crowd next to me. I was so nerded out and starstruck and she was still classy.

  • Tough Queens, NY girls after my own heart.

  • I guess this is where they got the idea for "Summer Lovin'".

  • Well you know Leadbelly sounds a little less original after you've heard Alabama Fatboy. No-one here has because he died in 1818 and so didn't leave a catalogue, as sound-recording was yet to be invented. Fortunately I have, and so I out-rank all of you: The great advantage of being 300 years old and still "rockin' 'n' rollin'" !

  • GEEZ!!!! I SAW this show!!! i feel really old today!!! But....those were great days! thanks for posting!

  • The New York Dolls seem a little less original once you've heard the Shangri-Las.

  • @MyFriendHitler cus they did a cover? hmm, let's put a picture of the new york dolls next to the shangrilas....now lets go see the new york dolls live....yeah. nice try. that's the stupidiest thing i've ever heard. that's like saying- "Iggy Pop seems a little less original once you've heard Herb Albert and the tijuana brass." jack**

  • @MyFriendHitler right?

  • I recently saw a band called the Ghosts do a cover of this song, they were really good!

  • fucking awesome!!!!!!!!! that is all

  • They had a short career and not many hit records (compared to The Supremes) but The Shangri-Las left an image and a sound that will never be forgotten. Every time I listen to them I'm 15 again. Thanks girls... you really kicked ass!

  • I like Johnny Thunders' version better!!! (JOKING OF COURSE, BUT IT'S GREAT.)

  • and he is such a creep :D

  • fabulous

  • Why don't bands wear outfits like that anymore?

  • @MitchGambino They don't fit any more!

  • fabulous thankyou

  • Wat lekkerdingen ! Een van mijn grote jaren 60 favorieten...

Jammer dat er niet meer opnamen bestaan....

    Groetjes - Thommy

  • How cool were these chicks! They were tough with the sexypeel!!! Mary I was hot 4 U, of course I was 6 and you still look good..wow! Loved this song then & love it now!

  • Johnny Thunders one is so far better!

  • As a radio DJ from 1969-1983 I played this and other Shangri-las music as "oldies on the air. They were and are the very best ever!! Mary I'm glad you're back in the business...best of luck!

  • Mary was fucking hot

  • Nuts!! I was only 3 at the time.....had I been older, I would 've married Mary. She would have to where that outfit everyday and do that cute little hip wiggle at 0:24. What a doll.....

  • Sweet 17! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 MWAH! to you, Mary!!! xoxoxoxox

  • tell me more, tell me more reminded me of monty python ;D

  • Tuffest chick band ever. Probably used IEDs for IUDs. Produced by George "Shadow" Morton who later produced the New York Dolls, unabashed Shangri Las fanboys all.

  • Oh my God, these girls are amazing...

    Mary Weiss is wonderful...

  • Oooh what a cutie.

  • Mary is such a cool lady (she replied to a message of mine on her myspace account). One of the greats.

The Shangri-las should be inducted in the RHOF.

  • what! they're not in there?

  • No-not yet to the RHOF's shame. Other acts which I won't mention by name got in-and they could hardly be considered 'Rock' by any stretch. :/

  • i like you edhallick :)

  • I feel like crying when I watch this. I was born in 1962 and I swear to god, one of my earliest memories is when I was about 2 and watching my baby sitter and her friends dancing to this, doing all these dance moves and using the hula hoop. I also remember the first show of Batman, all in black in white. Incredible how memories like that stick in a persons head even after 45 years later. Music kicked butt back then. It seemed like nobody could suck even if they tried.

  • @Edhallick Don't cry emo grandpa.

  • @Edhallick : Dont feel bad , I know exactly how you feel because I go thru the same thing everytime I listen to these classic oldies , I start to think how more 40 decades have gone and here we are cherishing the memories of a bygone era , that still lives in our hearts . Yes I too remember the shangri-las great girl group. these are the true heroes of Music who should be honor in our Rock N Roll hall of fame

  • i love how theyre like little girls when they speak to each other

  • real nice inspiration for the New York Dolls now I know....

  • I love their sulky style with the big bangs, the racy outfits and the dark mascara but Mary Weiss is so adorable at the same time that it's just fantastic. Great stuff. I love the early 60's!

  • What can I say? The Shangs are tops!! I love them all and so much fun to watch them on you tube over and over! Mary and Liz if ya'll ever watch yourselves on you tube in these classic clips please know that you are loved! RIP M AND M.

  • im a 43 year old guy and when i hear (and see) Mary Weiss sing, i want to cry with joy

  • Everyone's in love with mary ='.'=

  • who wouldn't love these fantastic gals???

this yummy girl group era is one music style i would not mind to see return, but it never will, and maybe that's for the best. the world has changed....
