Here's a way to start a car with a "carbureted" engine (this Toyota Corolla FX had a carburetor instead of fuel injection): turn the key to on for a few seconds, then to off. Repeat this two more times. Push the pedal to the floor once or twice, then crank the engine. This practice gets fuel into the system. This gal "flooded" the engine with gas, which is why it wouldn't start. This Toyota seen here was a reliable car. It goes back to this: "You've got to be smarter than what you're operating."
It wouldn't have taken me THIS LONG TO GET THIS TOYOTA TO START. Just hit the gas once or twice, go from off to on (3 seconds at on each time) 3 times, and then it should fire. Doing this helps the electric fuel pump get fuel. I'd have to teach her how to drive one of my vehicles after this........
I don't find this hilarious in any way at all. You know, a car will let any moron operate it. If I don't know if it's carbureted or fuel injected, I'll get the manual and read the starting instructions. Kim flat out flooded this poor Toyota's engine, and that's partly why it wouldn't fire. A tip: after pumping the gas twice, turn the key from off to on back and forth 3 times with being on for 3 seconds, that way the fuel gets in the pump. The car should start right up. This was not a good scene
You know, if the car has one of those stupid carburetors, YOU HAVE TO SET THE DARN CHOKE BEFORE YOU START IT! BECAUSE KIM DIDN'T PUMP THE GAS BEFORE SHE CRANKED THAT TOYOTA COROLLA FX (a very reliable car), SHE FLOODED THE DARN THING, AND THAT'S WHY IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START IT! JUST REMEMBER, A CAR WILL LET ANY FOOL OR IDIOT OPERATE IT (with all due respect)! ONE THING: YOU CAN'T JUST TURN A KEY FOR JUST ONE SECOND TO START A CAR: YOU HAVE TO ENGAGE STARTER FOR AT LEAST 3-5 SECONDS.

I love that car! ;) Is this particular one fuel-injected or carbureted?
If carbureted, you are supposed to pump the throttle pedal at least two times prior to or while starting
If injected, car should start right up..

Arguably one of the best pedal pumping/cranking scenes in a movie by a celebrity. Love it.
