Is it just me or does it look really wrong when the "Twin Brain" enemy uses their absorb attack on you? First they what, paralyze you, then they buttf**k you??
@TheMonkeydluffy455 There are a few ways to do it. One is to have someone climb down one end and up the other with the partially constructed bridge and then anchor it down on the other side.
I dont remember any enemy from FF7 but those little bugs in mt. Nibel. Because their attack "Lay flat" is, in german translated as "Flachlagen" which basically means "get laid" :D
getting those large ropes across a distance uses the same technique regarding ships docking at a pier. basically, one person ties the large rope to a very long, but thinner rope. then tie the other end of the thin rope to a piece of rock. then just whirl it above your head, release and let the stone fly across. another guy picks up the stone when it reaches across and starts to pull the rope.
Sooooo lucky that vincent's beast mode didn't use the fire attack.. I once accidently used that limit break and since i didn't have all those high damaging spells everytime i got some damage on it, vincent healed him back with over 1k each hit
The previous commenter is correct. Yes, they do throw the rope across. If it's big enough of a gap, they might "launch" it across tying the rope to a heavy ball. Actually, the first rope is more of a "guide" rope usually, and it is used to pull (in the game example) the 4 (or is it 6) "horizontal" ropes across. From there, someone then hangs over the gap and ties the planks on. In fact, this was used until recently, as you could then use that "plank" setup to build a stronger bridge.
From my understanding they'd throw the rope across with someone on the otherside (obviously if you're going to build a rope bridge you want 2 people. <_<) then the person teathers it, then they essentially hang and climb their way up tying the ropes to planks carrying the 2nd rope, which get's tethered to the otherside, then hanging their way back tying the planks to the other rope.
Obviously back then, there were a lot of casualties. :P
dude i never came down those ladders now i cant get back up lol. i just went through those tunnels and everything is so messed up now lol. i dont think i can complete this quest now D:
Ran into a green dragon in that cave before the materia keeper, watching tifa meteo dive a green dragon is hilarious, reminds me of sabin using suplex on ghost train
For that sort of bridge, I'd guess they'd tie ropes to an arrow, or one of those large ballista type weapons to, either construct a bridge from the rope that bridged the gap, or created a pulley system that allows them to send across an already developed bridge system.
How can you not know how they rebuilt that bridge? all they needed to do was straighten out a bit of rope, cast pretrify on it, and feed it over the gap, then use a soft bought as a souveneer from costa del sol ;) I should work for squaresoft :)
@HCBailey Oh by the way excellent Lets play. Glad u make these vidz.Btw they raise the rope bridges by making it on one side then one lucky Guy get to cross a river and climb a cliff face with a slacked rope attached to the premade bridge than they raise it when he makes it to the top phun time's. Well that's the way we did it.
@HCBailey no offense but you miss pronounce alot of words. Melee - Mali those are things from Malaysia. Its pronounced MAY-LAY. and don't get me started on materia - ma-Terri-uh?
I'd say, that they made the bridge before hand then climbed to the highest point (where you get off the bridge) and secure it down. Then on the other end a rope would be tied on and the people at the lower end (where you get on) would pull it up and secure that side and viola, you have a bridge. :)
I'd assume they just carry 2 ropes from one side to the other by climbing down one side and up the other. Then they can just lay boards down as they walk across and then ties ropes to the boards.
hey HC, can i call you HC? anyway my dilemma is this, "powersoul" materia nor the elemental materia found in the next episode were in the locations you had stumbled upon them in when i had played. do i have a shitty version or what?
You're lucky that Limit-Vincent didn't use "Beast Flare". It's a Fire attack. Materia Keeper ABSORBS Fire. It'll get about 1000 HP healed everytime he uses it. I wasn't so lucky.
The way they get the bridges started is to tie a training rope onto a man's back, then have the man polevault across the ravine with a long piece of bamboo. After the training rope is tied down with stakes, workers can monkey-crawl their way across the training rope carrying the bridge's support ropes.
If the ravine is too large to polevault across, someone will climb down the ravine, swim across the river, then climb up the other side. But the polevault method's much cooler.
They often shot arrows tied to lighter rope over to the other side. They then tied the lighter rope to stronger, bridge-worthy rope and pulled it across.
Also - I know HCBailly wouldn't make this mistake, but for the newbs out there: never ever link the counter materia to the throw command! I mean EVER. A friend did that once and the result was that Vincent, out of the blue, hucked the Ultima Weapon at some wuss. it LOOKED cool, but....still.
I actually killed the "final final" boss with a counter attack even though you're supposed to use Omnislash. I didn't get a chance to enter a command at all lol
Wait, that can't be all in Mt. Nibel, I could've sworn there was more than just getting a bunch of items! Don't you do anything in that reactor place? Or am I just losing my mind? lol Besides, aren't you supposed to find Sephiroth there, I'm a little confused T_T

ummmmm you got lucky! HONESTLY your so lucky vincents galient beast didnt use that fire move that would have healed the materia keeper. and it heals for ALOT i mean at least 2k -3k damage! lucky you are :)
jeez, HCBailly, i've learned several things about this game that i didn't previously know. including that second hidden passage with the plus barrette. nice
Actually, poison is one of the best ways to kill that boss. I've seen solo Aeris vids where the only way the player could really win was with poison. It essentially puts a death sentence on him, so you can focus on healing and staying alive while he slowly dies. Try that if anyone is having trouble. (that guy is one of the harder bosses in the game IMO)
But since this is final fantasy, they probably use a gravitiy spell for making the rope float and a wind spell for flying in the right direction.
Or on each side on with a rope in the hand jumps down the cannyon (since falling doesn t matter, they meet up in the middle, bind together the two ropes and pull the ropes up to one side.
Back in the medieval times and even bofore that in northern continents like Asia, they flew kites across long gaps and when it got to one side they pulled them down, then two groups on each side would tie them up and start building the bridge along the ropes (If you're wondering how they get to the other side in the first place, the hiked and what not, it just took longer to hike), that's all.
He can't become a partner as he constantly uses clips and music that don't belong to him. Even if he put a copyright or a disclaimer he wouldn't be able to.
there are 2 ways to make rope bridges of this length.
the fast way is to fly a kite to someone on the other side and attack a guide rope to the kite. then build away. the problem with this method is wind direction, meaning your kite may end up not where you want it to be.
the other way is to give a climber a guide rope and he climbs down one side then back up the other.
when he meant by "back then" i don't think it was meant for the game but in general because they are actual bridges like that in real life not too long ago..now that i know what HC really meant, i wondering myself how they build bridges like these lol
Watching that summon reminds me of one thing I dislike about the 3d FFs: THe length of those animations and the inability to use abilities whilst they're going. :/
Great work, btw. This was a lot of fun to watch, and your commentary is interesting, unlike that of a lot of guys doing similar things on Youtube.
Incans were perfectly capable of constructing rope suspension bridges: from wiki
"construction of these bridges amounted to a pair of stone anchors on each side of the canyon with massive cables of woven grass linking these two pylons together....cables which supported the foot-path were reinforced with plaited branches....strong enough to... carry the Spaniards while riding horses... these massive bridges were so heavy that they tended to sag in the middle, and...sway[ed] in strong winds."
We built a small bridge using some logs and washing line as kids over a small river, we basicly built the bridge on land, tied a rope to one end, and dragged the bridge across(you can't tie the logs on if you've already limited the length of line on the bridge). It did involve one of us(luckily not me) getting wet crossing the river without the bridge first, but it did work(We didn't have a hammer for posts or whatever, so you had to crawl across it or risk falling in, but it worked really well)
I hated the Lost Number battle! It was so frustrating trying to get past the safe part. Now I am at the boss you just fought. I can't beat it. And I am only on lvl 21. Where did you get the enemy skill thing?
you have to enter the safe code and defeat the lost number. Then walk to the safe and get basement key. open the room in the basement and find vince and choose "Talk about Sephiroth". Then try to leave and he says "Wait" and joins you.
Vincent is an optional character...You can get him pretty much anytime after the world map, but youre still forced into a fight w/ Lost Number, which has around 7000-8000HP so,, yaa....
you have to open the safe get the key talk to him until he says let me sleep and leave and he will shout wait for me or something and that is how you obtain him
ok i need help. really bad. i am really low level and i donno why , and im trying to get through this place but i keep dying i am only level 26 and like im trapped after the part where u go down one of the tubes is there anyway back up the pipes/tubes?
You're missing many things not going on the reactor side: sniper CR weapon(1st cave after the reactor), elemental materia(near mako fountain) and another chest containing an elixir in the next cave :) It's boring but it's also easy exp and leveling :)
My guess on rope/wood bridges is to tie the rope to upper side, lower it down, tie a rope at the bottom, swim (or some how) move across the bottom to the other lower side, find alternate route to top of other side, lower rope down to the bottom (diff individuals) then tie and pull the lower part up to opposite side (from the top) and connect and reinforce handle as you go while adding planks across...just a guess.
That sucks. There isn't a special word for it. When words start with the same consonant sound, it's called "alliteration", but when words contain the same vowel sound, it's just "internal rhyming".
Hey, HC, in a mythical world of magic and monster's, I think a bridge of that design would be the easiest thing to build. LOL, also- they do have planes, choppahs and your everyday flying giant birds
I would imagine they'd tie one end of a long rope to a stake on one side of the canyon, then shoot the other end over with a bow and arrow, and stake it down too. Rinse, repeat 3 more times (once for the other base rope, two more for the 'railing'). Then I'd assume they start roping planks to it, one by one, with slaves. Back then bridges didn't cost gold, they cost SOULSSS
Dark city was it? it surely is not more confusing then akira,
i promise you the most hardest plot to follow of all time is akira, at least thats what i think, if dark city is really more confused someone please tell me
I always viewed Vincent as kinda the potential Blackmage, red XII as the readmage, and Caitsith as the whitemage, stat wise i mean, i know theay can all be anything but thats just what i see. especially since aries is obvoiusly the summoner/mage character kinda like rydia from FF IV
Oh wow, I remember Materia Keeper, that guy was BRUTAL the first time.
By the way, help me out here, YouTube viewers. I know that in the international FF7, they added some additional bosses to fight. Is Materia Keeper one of those? He seems kind of irrelevant to the game apart from impeding your progress.
Probably. If so, that was the reason they were able to make Dredge of Cerberus so well. They just used the parts of Vincent's back story that they already had and built towards the future with it.
Ironically, FFVII is actually the one final fantasy Square put the least effort in to, but it turned out the best.
That would make sense, since there was a LOT of his backstory in it.
I didn't know that they spent the least time with it! That would explain the other ending that I have heard about that's supposed to have both Yuffie and Vincent in it
FF VII is a game that Square put out before they even finished it!! They only had a certain amount of time and they couldn't put the parts in that they wanted to at the end.
Actually, yes that's the first step for building that sort of suspension bridge. =\
I know this not from any practical experience bridge building, but I watched a special on the Learning Channel about the golden gate bridge and that was one of the first steps they took after they finished the support towers. It was actually pretty amazing watching them roll those huge steel wire bundles.
Is it just me or does it look really wrong when the "Twin Brain" enemy uses their absorb attack on you? First they what, paralyze you, then they buttf**k you??

Watching that summon reminds me of one thing I dislike about the 3d FFs: THe length of those animations and the inability to use abilities whilst they're going. :/
Great work, btw. This was a lot of fun to watch, and your commentary is interesting, unlike that of a lot of guys doing similar things on Youtube.

forgot to add the fact that they dont already have a bridge so i dont know how it would be easy to biuld with only one side...

how in hell do they get to the other side.....

what does the ???? enemy skill do?
Brake4Snakes 2 years ago
It does damage equal to the difference between your max and current HP. So if you had 3000 HP max but only 1000 remaining, it would do 2000.

Wow, that must be really handy if you're just about to die...

Incans were perfectly capable of constructing rope suspension bridges: from wiki
"construction of these bridges amounted to a pair of stone anchors on each side of the canyon with massive cables of woven grass linking these two pylons together....cables which supported the foot-path were reinforced with plaited branches....strong enough to... carry the Spaniards while riding horses... these massive bridges were so heavy that they tended to sag in the middle, and...sway[ed] in strong winds."
fascboi 2 years ago

@ keroro645: Watch his earlier videos in this series, going through them, you'll see him get the materias and get the skills for them.

you get him in the mansion safe yo. hit me up if you wanna know
ukee31 2 years ago
you have to enter the safe code and defeat the lost number. Then walk to the safe and get basement key. open the room in the basement and find vince and choose "Talk about Sephiroth". Then try to leave and he says "Wait" and joins you.
Hope i helped
CALMCO 2 years ago
Vincent is an optional character...You can get him pretty much anytime after the world map, but youre still forced into a fight w/ Lost Number, which has around 7000-8000HP so,, yaa....
strigon8 2 years ago
you have to open the safe get the key talk to him until he says let me sleep and leave and he will shout wait for me or something and that is how you obtain him

bridges always boggle me...I have no clue how some of them are built.
AzureFayt 2 years ago
You're missing many things not going on the reactor side: sniper CR weapon(1st cave after the reactor), elemental materia(near mako fountain) and another chest containing an elixir in the next cave :) It's boring but it's also easy exp and leveling :)
LukeLX 2 years ago
i think they put every thing down with an air ship, like they blid it and give it to them then theytie it
ynotgriffin 2 years ago
I guess with a bow and arrow you could maybe shoot a light weight guide wire (of some kind) over attached to it to pull also.
Brewhahh 2 years ago
My guess on rope/wood bridges is to tie the rope to upper side, lower it down, tie a rope at the bottom, swim (or some how) move across the bottom to the other lower side, find alternate route to top of other side, lower rope down to the bottom (diff individuals) then tie and pull the lower part up to opposite side (from the top) and connect and reinforce handle as you go while adding planks across...just a guess.
Brewhahh 2 years ago
i've got a better guess it was a spooky ghost
pooman6666 2 years ago
Planks would be added first, as IRL they are woven into the support ropes.
But yeah, I guess that would behow to do it.

or you could just not use his limit breaker. he was my healer in my group so i didn't want to use it anyway.
Misoshoran 2 years ago
Well, it was internal rhyming.
That sucks. There isn't a special word for it. When words start with the same consonant sound, it's called "alliteration", but when words contain the same vowel sound, it's just "internal rhyming".
Eldxale 2 years ago
There's a word for internal rhyming. It's assonance. Just thought you'd like to know.

Yep, you throw a rope to the other side. If you want to get fancy you can tie a rock on the end and sling it across, or even use a rocket.
TonyMeman2486 3 years ago
on how the make the bridges:
there was a discovery channel thing about it.Yep, they just throw it across, then send someone to pick it up and tie it. rinse and repeat.

"Ironically, FFVII is actually the one final fantasy Square put the least effort in to, but it turned out the best."
Unfortunately, it kinda shows in just how overpowered HCBailey becomes in this playthrough without doing barely anything to powerlevel...
ArcsaurdeQuester 3 years ago
I always stick Counter and Cover on Tifa so she can get her limit chain really fast.
timemonkey 3 years ago
That bridge comment confuzzled me too...
That's my 10 second theory, anyways.

PvtMinsk 3 years ago
No, Materia Keeper was in the normal version as well. I remember cause he was one of the toughest bosses I remember fighting from the first disc.

I think Vincent was supposed to have more storyline, but the game's production deadline was closing, so they cut it. I THINK...
BygPhattyPlus 3 years ago
Probably. If so, that was the reason they were able to make Dredge of Cerberus so well. They just used the parts of Vincent's back story that they already had and built towards the future with it.
Ironically, FFVII is actually the one final fantasy Square put the least effort in to, but it turned out the best.
42jemini 3 years ago
Isn't it Dirge of Cerberus? Not Dredge of Cerberus. Sorry for being picky about spelling and stuff...it's just what i do.
Abbz444 3 years ago
That would make sense, since there was a LOT of his backstory in it.
I didn't know that they spent the least time with it! That would explain the other ending that I have heard about that's supposed to have both Yuffie and Vincent in it
BygPhattyPlus 3 years ago
FF VII is a game that Square put out before they even finished it!! They only had a certain amount of time and they couldn't put the parts in that they wanted to at the end.

dont you get gold armlet which is the best armor at this point after fighting the dragon enemy?
Groth16 3 years ago
Actually, yes that's the first step for building that sort of suspension bridge. =\
I know this not from any practical experience bridge building, but I watched a special on the Learning Channel about the golden gate bridge and that was one of the first steps they took after they finished the support towers. It was actually pretty amazing watching them roll those huge steel wire bundles.
I thought it was from Dark City...
