Free hand technique, gravity blast, press roll......I'm sure there's other names people call it as well....who cares? It's really not a very difficult technique it just looks flashy. The true difficulty is adding it in to grooves tastefully..... and I'm just talking about blast beats.... you can use it with any style the same way you would use a simple roll, but it can allow you to keep one hand free to do other stuff....haha

actually thats a 'gravity' 'blast', though i think its too slow to be called a 'blast'. the technique is basically just using the hoop of the drum as a fulcrum to get two hits out of one stroke. one hit on the up stroke, one hit on the down stroke. its really not that hard, and actually this guy has horrible form lol

haha a Gravity blast is one of the fastest thing you can do on a snare just look up a video and find out its easy to do and btw you can use a gravity blast in almost any kind of genre e.g jazz, reggae and more mabye your not an advanced drummer and havnt reached levels to know about Gravity blasting so get you facts right

Anyone get that this is what a snare drum is supposed to sound like. He or his roadie really tunes this thing perfectly. It has the right amount of ring, pop, snare rattle, and his touch is great. Ian is really good.

No. Not John Bonham although he was an awesome roc/blues guy. I thin kmitch Mitchell taught Bonham many tricks that Bonham ended up w/the credit. But Mitch's tricks came a lot from Tony williams and Morello I do believe.peart is good but carl Palmer iMO is the absolute king of Prog.
