the 1440x1080 is still full HD. the pixels are rectangular instead of square. So when converting the video, you will not have a quality loss by converting to 1920x1080, unless you are expecting to have 50-60 frames per second, which can only be achieved with this camcorder by recording in 720i resolution at 25-30 fps, then doubling the frame rate during conversion in your de-interlace settings. None of this should be a problem considering any hobbyist will be doing color corrections anyway.
Good review BTW! I've seen some video quality on HG10 at Youtube and it's pretty decent... Am just saying coz mine is coming on Fri and am sure am gonna like it with my price range. It only cost me 375+tax free shipping refurbished Canon hdd hg10 40gigs is not so bad at all than getting a Flip mino or ultra... And this has a shoe for accesorries. manual focus and it may only have 1440x1080 but not too much of a difference from hf10 for another 500$...nice review.
I am studying this camcorder before purchasing one used. You say it's 1440 x 1080i, but no where can I find that in the specs, on any website. I am reading Canon's page and Amazon's page on this cam, and they both say 1920 x 1080p.
That is sleek. I wish all camcorders were sleek. Mine is an awesome HDD camcorder by panasonic but it has a lot of black plastic on the back. I don't like the way mine looks.

its not a bad HD camcorder it dont shoot full hd like i was told and read only 1440 x 1080 full hd is 1920 x 1080
