...according to the credits at the end of the movie(not mentioned as a source here from what i just read)it is Phyllis Robbins with Orlando and his Orchestra.
Holy shit. When is someone going to upload the video to this song from this movie??!? It is one of the VERY most wonderful things ever done in movies! Well, this and Yes, Yes.... from the same movie!
This is so obviously recorded for the 1981 film version! For crying out loud the arrangement is a early 80's hollywoodised overembellished version of the 30's version used in the 1978 tv miniseries. So this is very likely Ida Sue McClune, as it says on the box.
You say that like that's a bad thing when it's a very well-crafted song and so much better than the drab original. I'm still not convinced about when it was made because a lot of other original songs from the American version of the movie had the same type of embellishments as this one. Let's Misbehave and Pennies from Heaven were both extended by a few minutes with new music.
It's definitely an old recording, certainly not from 1981, even with adjustments. Somehow I doubt that the movie soundtrack version is by Phyllis Robbins, and is more likely the Ida Sue McCune version - 'tho there's a chance it is Phyllis Robbins ( - she did feature on the BBC TV series' soundtrack, with a version of Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.)
wow that's incredible, for a 1981 soundtrack album to get the info wrong.
i wondered if they scrapped the footage of Bernadette taking her try at the song. that would've been an interesting listen, as her pouting little girl voice is nothing like this.
Probably only the film Producer and Music Director know what you're asking. Ya never know. If it was a Public Domain thing they probably didn't care who they credited if a quick research was botched. No "Google" back then, lol.
I'm pretty sure the credits are right on the cover. Maybe it's best to leave it open to debate because there is the tiny debate on other videos and people take online resources as fact. Does sound a little like other recordings on youtube by Phyllis Robins, but I'm not so sure.
There are two versions of "Love Is Good For Anything That Ails You" in the movie. The one that Bernadette Peters lip synchs to is sung by Ida Sue McCune accompanied by an orchestra arranged and conducted by Billy May. This version was recorded in 1981 (or more probably 1979 or 1980, when the movie was made). The other version is heard over the end credits. That version is the original from the 1930s, sung by Phyllis Robbins with Orlando and his Orchestra.

@birdandthe Sounds like you're flabbergasted over an opinion. Some songs I like, some I don't. It's really ok. Calm down.
